NEET Biology Syllabus 2024: NMC brought major changes to NEET biology syllabus with some addition and deletion of chapters. As of now, NEET Biology Syllabus covers both zoology and botany topics. The syllabus has 10 units- 5 units each from the class 11 & 12 NCERT syllabus.

As per the updated NEET 2024 syllabus by NMC, some important topics like transport in plants and improvement in food production have been deleted from the old syllabus. The 6 new topics added by NMC include:

  • Genetics and evolution- Protein biosynthesis
  • Cell structure and functions- Classification and nomenclature of enzymes

  • Biology and human welfare- Dengue & Chikungunya and Tobacco Abuse

Biology has the highest weightage in NEET exam- 100 out of the 200 questions. The biology paper is divided into 2 sections- Zoology and Botany with 50 questions each. There are 2 parts in Zoology and Botany papers- A and B with 35 and 15 questions respectively. Check NEET Biology Question Paper Pattern

Based on previous year’s paper analysis, topics with higher number of questions in NEET zoology include human physiology, biomolecules, biology & human welfare, human health & disease, and reproduction. The topics with higher weightage in NEET botany include cell structure & function, plant physiology, photosynthesis in higher plants, sexual reproduction in flowering plants, plant kingdom, anatomy of flowering plants. NEET Biology Syllabus 2024: Preparation Tips

The questions in Biology are basically based on scientific terms and memory based questions. According to the questions asked in previous years, most of the questions are easy to moderate. This means the candidates can score well with consistent preparation and following a routine. Along with that, the candidate must also follow some tips to prepare strategically to cover all the topics. Some proven tips are mentioned below that can fetch better results for the candidates.

Tip 1: Divide syllabus according to the difficulty: Candidates can divide the sections or topics for preparation based on the difficulty level or number of questions asked from that particular section.

  • High Priority Topics - The topics that have higher weightage in the exam should be kept in higher priority like cell structure, reproduction, human physiology, biology and human welfare. Lots of questions are asked and candidates should dedicate more time to them.
  • Medium priority Topics -The topics from which 15-20 questions are asked must be kept in medium priority and candidates should work after finishing the high priority topics. This includes topics from Diversity in living world, biomolecules, structural organization in plants and animals
  • Low priority Topics- Around 2 to 10 questions can be asked from these topics: these topics include- biotechnology, strategy for enhancement in food production etc.

Tip 2: Preparing Notes for Revision:

  • Sticky notes and self prepared notes are proven ways to prepare well.
  • Candidates should prepare handwritten notes for revision.
  • Revision will help you in memorizing the topics for a longer period of time.
  • Aspirants must note down all the important formulas, facts, etc, and revise them daily.

Tip 3: Practice Papers and Mock Tests:

  • With the help of practice papers or mock tests, candidates can work upon the pace and precision of answering the questions.
  • Candidates must focus on accuracy while practicing questions they will gain speed.
  • Mock Tests help dramatically in improving overall preparation and getting the desired result.

Tip 4: Proper Time Management:

  • The candidates must prepare and follow a proper time table religiously.
  • The time table should include short breaks so that candidates can relax body and mind.
  • Prepare a daily, weekly and monthly target and accomplish it on time. This method gives a feeling of reward and makes preparation interesting.
