NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Mathematics Chapter 5: Lines and Angles

NCERT Solutions for class 7 Mathematics Chapter 5 Lines and Angles are provided in the article below. In geometry, lines and angles are the basic terms that set up the foundation for the subject. A line is defined as a row of closely spaced dots that extends infinitely in two directions. An angle is defined as a figure created by two rays that meet at a common endpoint. They are measured in degrees, using a protractor. Some of the important topics in Lines and angles chapter include:

Line Segment: A line that exists between two fixed points is called a line segment. The different types of lines include

  • Vertical Line
  • Horizontal Line
  • Parallel Line
  • Perpendicular Line

Angles: An angle is a space formed by two rays with the same vertex. The two rays can be extended in the direction indicated by the pointed arrow at their ends. The different types of angles include:

  • Acute angle
  • Right Angle
  • Obtuse Angle
  • Straight Angle
  • Reflex Angle
  • Complete Angle

Some of the properties of angles include:

  • If a ray is perpendicular to a line, the sum of two adjacent angles formed by that ray is 180°. Therefore on one side of the perpendicular line, a right angle is formed.
  • If the sum of two adjacent angles is 180°, then the arms of the angles that are not common form a line.
  • When a transversal intersects two parallel lines, it is said to be a transversal.
  • The sum of the angles of a triangle is 180º.
  • If we produce any side of a triangle, then the exterior angle formed is equal to the sum of the two interior opposite angles.
