A simple equation maintains the same value on either side of the '=' sign

Constants: Constants are terms which do not vary and have a fixed value.

Variables: Variables are terms which vary and do not have a fixed value.

In the equation 5x – 10= 0, 5  and 10 are constants and 2 is a variable.

Example 1: Find the value of x in the equation 18x + 72 = 0.

Ans. 18x + 72 = 0

18x = -72

x = -72/18

x = -4

Example 2: Find the value of x in the equation 15x – 150 = 0.

Ans. 15x – 150 = 0

15x = 150

x = 150/15

x = 10
