As per the student reviews, the campus is well-structured and has many spots for students to hang out and chill with their friends. Some of the hostel canteens are open till 4 AM. Does IIT Delhi offer hostel accommodation for its students?

Yes, IIT Delhi provides hostel accommodation for all its students. These hostels, originally built in the 1960s, are well-maintained. For first-year B.Tech students, the rooms are typically 3-seater, although some hostels still have 2-seater rooms due to varying infrastructure across the 17 hostels. The rooms might feel a bit cramped if you plan to spend all your time inside, but that’s not usually the case. Here's a review from a recent graduate about the hostel amenities:

"Each room has three beds, which might accommodate more during exam periods. There are also three tables, three chairs, and two almirahs with four slots each. While there are two LAN ports for three people, you can manage as there's a Wi-Fi facility too. Each room is equipped with two fans, two tube lights, and four electricity boards."

Which institute offers better hostel amenities for BTech students: IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi?

IIT Delhi is generally thought to have better hostel facilities than IIT Bombay, based on comments from students and alumni. IIT Delhi's hostels are commended for their neat common areas, roomy accommodations, and cleanliness. Students enjoy the campus's first-rate sports facilities, gyms, and recreation areas. However, although the hostels at IIT Bombay are thought to be good, they are occasionally criticized for being overcrowded and lacking certain amenities. IIT Bombay does, however, provide a number of facilities, such as a student activity center, a sports complex, and a swimming pool.

Both IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi are renowned for their engineering programs and offer excellent hostel facilities. However, there are a few differences in amenities and costs that might influence your decision.

Is it mandatory for students of IIT Delhi to stay in the institute hostels?

It is not mandatory for students to stay in an IIT Delhi hostel. Hostel accommodations are not offered to students who live within a 15-kilometer radius. There are enough hostels on campus for those who want to stay: five for girls (including one for transit accomodation) and twelve for boys. The 325-acre, technologically sophisticated campus of IIT Delhi is one of the best in India, with great facilities and infrastructure.
