Ques. What are the costs associated with studying at IIT Delhi for Indian and international students?

Ans. Since IIT Delhi is a public university, Indian students can typically afford its tuition costs. For Indian students, the entire cost comes to about INR 8–8.7 lakh. Hostel and mess fees as well as other personal expenses are not included in this amount. The annual tuition cost for international students is roughly $3,000. It can be costly to live in Delhi, particularly for people from outside the city. Students should have a budget of between INR 10,000 and INR 15,000 per month for living expenses, which include food, transportation, and entertainment.

Ques. What MBA programs are available at IIT Delhi?

Ans. IIT Delhi provides two MBA programs: a General MBA and an MBA in Telecommunication System Management. Students can further tailor their MBA experience by choosing electives in various areas, such as:

  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Information Systems
  • Strategic Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Operations Management
  • Telecommunication Systems Management

Ques. Is pursuing an MSc at IIT Delhi a good decision?

Ans. Yes, pursuing an MSc at IIT Delhi is a great choice for students. The institute is ranked fourth among India's top colleges, giving it a prominent place in the NIRF 2024 rankings. Furthermore, IIT Delhi provides excellent placement assistance. As per research, the median compensation package for two-year postgraduate programs was INR 18.82 LPA in placements 2024. Prominent corporations such as Accenture, Cisco, and Microsoft frequently take part in their hiring campaigns.

Ques. Which courses at IIT Delhi can be chosen with a JEE Advanced cutoff rank of up to 2500?

Ans. The BTech Cutoff 2024 for IIT Delhi was based on JEE Advanced scores across various programs. The closing ranks for BTech and Integrated BTech courses for candidates under the General AI category varied from 116 to 6102.

The following IIT Delhi courses are options if your rank is up to 2500: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation), Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Integrated B.Tech. + M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, Integrated B.Tech. + M.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing, B.Tech. in Mathematics and Computing Engineering, and B.Tech. in Engineering and Computational Mechanics. These are based on the last round cutoff for the General AI category. Note that ranks can differ based on category and gender.

Ques. Does clearing the UCEED exam ensure a BDes seat at IIT Delhi?

Ans. Students must take IIT Bombay's UCEED exam in order to be admitted to IIT Delhi's BDes program. A qualifying cutoff is determined by the UCEED exam's mean and standard deviation. Being on the admission rank list or just showing up for UCEED does not guarantee a spot in IIT Delhi's BDes program.

After passing UCEED, candidates must apply separately to the UCEED participating institute for BDes admission. Apart from passing the exam, applicants need to meet all eligibility criteria, provide necessary category certificates, and have their UCEED score verified by IIT Delhi.

About DMS IIT Delhi

Student view on course curriculum and faculty

The first semester had about nine subjects, and each course was very relevant to the business sector. We had courses like business communication, financial management and economics which helped me a lot to improve my intelligence. The faculties are also very good and their teaching method is very useful and relevant to the current generation. Our curriculum includes one major exam, one minor exam, project and presentation ,quiz, and class participation. We have a semester programme and not a trimester one.

Top companies providing internship and stipend being offered

There are many companies coming for internship in our college like reliance, Google, Wipro, TCS, Dr Reddys, laboratories, ICICI bank and Accenture. They come for all roles like marketing and sales, financial roles, product management and program management and for supply chain roles. The stipend amount varies from 50,000 to 1.5 lakhs and it depends upon the company and the role.

Top company recruiting from the campus , average and highest package

The placement process in our college is very good and we have 100% placement. Many companies visit our college like reliance, Google Dr Reddys, TCS and Wipro and many other companies. I think for the year 2024, the average package might be around 20 lakhs and the highest package might be around 35,00,000. My plans after getting the degree is to join or reputed company as a management trainee.

Yearly fees structure of the college

The total fees for the MBA programme in IIT Delhi is about 13 lakhs for the whole two years. We have to pay fees for each semester and hostel fees includes both mess, fees and room fees. The room fee is about 14,000 or 15,000 for one semester and mess fee is about 55,000 for months semester. I'm not taking a loan so I do not know about the financial assistance Policies. The summer internship placement process usually happens in the month of October and every person in our batch is placed and the average stipend is around one lakh.

Campus Life, sports and Facilities

We have many committees and clubs in our department and there are many competitions happening all around the year. We have a library in the department with a variety of books and it is accessible to all the students of the department. The classrooms are spacious and it can hold around 75 to 80 people and we have a big LED screen for presentation. We have a sports committee also and they organise many sports activities like cricket and lawn tennis. And we also have a social sector committee which focuses on sustainability and the social awareness aspects.

Hostel facilities provided by the college

We have a two sharing room and there is an AC in our room. The mail in the Hostel is good and we also get variety of food there. The menu is fixed and each day we have different item. The registration process for Hostel was hasslefree and it happened in the day of orientation itself. Near IIT Delhi. There are many PGs and hostels, But the rent is quite high even for a single room

Admission process of the college

I wrote the cat exam And I found the application form and fee details in IIT Delhi website. All the necessary details was present in the website. Then there was an interview process which was for about 20 minutes.

IITD is an old IIT and has an entrepreneurial atmosphere making it my first choice.I applied for the some other colleges I am comparing with ahead. IIT Madras is good in research, IIT Roorkee is said to has an atmosphere for UPSC aspirants, IIT Bombay is a rounded college. Rank issues dictate which college to choose ultimately. Admission process is straightforward, first JoSAA counselling is there, then document verification, fee payment, hostel allotment, onboarding and other small formalities.

Have I done a mistake in choosing IIT Delhi mechanical over DTU CS? I preferred to do CS, but due to ego, I chose IIT Delhi.

Sushmita Guptastudied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

I don’t think anyone choosing IIT Delhi over any other engineering college has made a wrong decision given the opportunities and life experiences that come with it. While both are crucial, your choice of Institute is more important than your branch.

Here is a friend's journey for your reference l was a BTech student (Civil) at IIT BHU with a rank of 3600.

  • First, he completed a Nanodegree program from Udacity in Self Driving Cars and Machine learning
  • Next, he worked as a Derivative Trader in Future First where he performed Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms.
  • After gaining great experience and exposure he joined Quantela Inc for 2 Years where he worked as a Data Scientist.
  • Today, after a lot of job switches and immense experience he is working at Derq in Dubai as a Machine Learning Scientist and doing Online MS from Georgia Tech University in Computer Science.

This journey of a 7-pointer Civil Branch student to a high-tech CS company proves that branch does not matter in the end. He made the most of his campus life and kept struggling to switch his branch and eventually succeeded. That being said, you have made the right decision as only IIT Delhi can give you the right set of opportunities and exposure and not DTU.

Why should someone choose IIT Delhi over IIT Mumbai for CSE? Except his/her AIR.?

Riya RadheraWorks at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

There are two sides to every coin. Similarly, there are many reasons why one must choose IIT Delhi over IIT Mumbai and vice versa. To make it further understandable, I have listed some common pros and cons of IIT Delhi

Pros

  • You are in proximity to the capital city
  • It’s easy to prepare for some other exams also apart from Engineering like IAS
  • Hauz Khas village in itself is an absolute treat to the eyes
  • Being in Delhi makes it possible to go for road trips to Jaipur, Chandigarh, Lansdown, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Agra, etc.
  • The Delhi Metro makes commuting quiet easy
  • There are many places to explore and hang out with your friends in the vicinity of the campus.

Cons

  • CS department of IIT Bombay is way better than IIT Delhi offering a plethora of diverse courses.
  • The campus of IIT Bombay has more natural landscape and greenery in comparison to IIT Delhi. This enhances the climate and overall ambiance inside the campus
  • Unlike IIT Delhi, the hostel facilities are much better at IIT Bombay while Delhi hostels are overly crowded.
  • Delhi faces extreme climatic conditions whereas the weather of IIT Bombay somehow remains the same throughout the year.

I leave it to you to weigh the pros and cons accordingly and make an informed decision.

I got CSE at IIT Delhi. Can I get a single room in the first year?

Ankit GuptaBachelor of Technology in Computer Engineering at Delhi Technological University

Do you think getting admission to the most coveted branch will also give access to the most coveted housing facilities? Well, you are wrong, inside IIT your rank has no value. You will be treated like any other student with equal amenities at your disposal.

At IIT Delhi, every student is allotted a room randomly without any discrimination. First-year students usually get 2-seater or 3-seater rooms depending on the hostel they are assigned to.

The single rooms you were asking for are usually allotted in the last year but some lucky students get a single room from the 3rd year in a new hostel like Girnar or Udaigiri. But regardless, your hostel will become your new home. Irrespective of the kind of rooms you are allotted, you get adapted to them and make splendid memories and new friends.

How was your first day at IIT Delhi?

Sona PandayStudied at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2018)

Every IITian’s first day is a memory that stays with them forever, and is permanently ingrained, and so was my friend's first day at IIT Delhi.

At around 11 in the morning, students were escorted to Dogra Hall, wherein an orientation session was conducted by the IIT Delhi director who briefed us about the institute administration and clarified basic doubts. The students were impressed by his speech and the two points that resonated the most with my friend were

  • Students of IIT Delhi should target job creation and not job seeking.
  • Despite a well-structured academic curriculum and research culture, why hasn’t IIT Delhi still been able to make it into the hundred top institutes globally?

The orientation was followed by a tea session of 15 minutes at the LHC lobby. Students were escorted to department-wise orientation sessions that were addressed by the respective departmental heads. Once the orientation sessions concluded, students were asked to go back to the hostels, their new home for 4 years.

A few formalities have to be dealt with related to the hostel BSW volunteers and how secretaries will always be at your disposal assisting you in every possible way. After lunch, she interacted with a few of her wingmates.

The first day at IIT Delhi will surely leave a long-lasting impression on you and will be filled with exciting memories and discoveries.

Which is better, IIT Roorkee CS or IIT Delhi mathematics and computing (4 years)?

Sushmita Guptastudied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Both programs are equally good in their respective fields and so are the institutions offering the programs. It’s important to consider what you expect from the program and what you plan to achieve after graduation to make the right choice.

My sister was in a similar dilemma as yours and eventually, she opted for MCA from IIT Delhi. This program has many courses similar to CS but the only problem is, the pedagogy adopted has a more theoretical approach than practical. Moreover, at some point, you will start questioning the parity of the faculty and will have to resort to self-study.

But here is the bright side, most companies coming for CS placements consider MCA students too, and offer decent roles.

Although I am not well aware of the situation in Roorkee, I can guarantee a true coding lover will prefer CS to MCA any day.

Is IIT Delhi CSE best in india?

Nisha GoyalB.Tech. Mathematics and Computing, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2019)

IIT Delhi is one of the top engineering institutes in India and is known for its Computer Science and Engineering program. According to various rankings, it is considered to be one of the best in the country.

  • Unlike the faculty of other departments of IIT Delhi, this department has the most approachable and friendly faculty
  • There are no compulsory attendance rules but the classes are interesting enough to attract students automatically
  • Extensive research work in the department has made it one of the best departments of the Institute
  • The peer groups are geniuses who are extremely hardworking and always ready to achieve the best.

Apart from Delhi, CS department of these institutes is also very good and reputed

  • IITK CS: It has an excellent reputation with the best AKS Primality algorithm.
  • IITB CS: This boasts of excellent alumni like Narendra Karmarkar
  • IIIT-Hyderabad CS: This institute lays great emphasis in its course structure on coding

What should I be prepared for before joining IIT Delhi?

Sushmita Guptastudied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Nothing can prepare you enough for the intense life you will be experiencing at IIT Delhi. Yet, here are a few pointers that might help

  • You will see a drastic decline in your rank. Students who were once school toppers will reach the bottom of the class. This is usually because students are chilled after JEE or face massive competition.
  • The first-year Physics lecture and lab activities are the most challenging things you will face.
  • Never copy your assignments as your professors are way smarter than you think
  • Listen to the advice of seniors but pay heed to only the ones that your brain justifies.
  • Make sure to use your freedom well and don’t let it become a reason for your downfall
  • You might face partiality to a little extent but you must bear with it.

What is the worst course you've taken or have heard of at IIT Delhi?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

In my opinion, the two worst courses one should refrain from ever taking in IIT Delhi are MCP 100 and MCP 101.

MCP 100: This course is Engineering Drawing and is one of the most irrelevant courses offered at IIT Delhi. It is taught by prof Sujeet Kumar Sinha who has no teaching skills and is always in a rush to complete the course. The entire syllabus is completed in just 2 months leaving no space to comprehend what was taught.

MCP 101: This course comprises concepts such as casting and welding which are not expected to be studied by an IITian at least.

Both the courses are a complete waste of time and don’t do justice to the institute's reputation.
