IIT Madras Scholarships 2024
IIT Madras scholarships are available for needy and deserving students. Special scholarships promote diversity by assisting students from marginalised backgrounds, including the SC/ST category and female students. Some of the scholarships at IIT Madras are as follows:
- SC/ST Scholarship: IITM offers renewable SC/ST scholarships for students whose annual parental income doesn’t exceed INR 4,50,000. Students under this scheme are offered tuition fee exemption along with free meals and a monthly pocket allowance of INR 250.
- Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarships: Only 25% of admitted students are eligible for this 67% tuition fee waiver from IITM. Students whose annual parental income is less than INR 4.5 lakh are eligible to apply for merit-cum-means scholarships. Also, a minimum GPA of 5.0 from the previous semester is a requirement for the scholarship to be renewed.
- Institute Notional Prize: Based on the JEE rank and annual parental income not exceeding INR 4,50,000, IITM offers a one-time grant of INR 1000 to the 7% of the students admitted.
- Institute Free Studentship: IIT Madras offers a free studentship for students whose annual parental income is less than INR 4,50,000 lakhs. Students are exempted from paying 67% of the tuition fee under this scheme. However, the scholarship is only offered to 25% of the UG students.
- Dr K Vasanth Rau Scholarship: This scholarship is given based on JEE rank to students having a parental income up to INR 5.50 lakhs. The scholarship is renewed based on a GPA of 6.5 and above.

Ques. What are the chances of a branch change in IIT Madras?
Ans. The branch change process is a mechanism for changing your engineering stream if you are not completely satisfied with your current line of study. Applications for branch change will be accepted before the end of your first semester. According to JEE distribution, you can switch to a more or less preferred branch. Only 10% of each branch is permitted to change branches. The only criterion is your first-semester CGPA. Only a small percentage of applicants can eventually change their engineering stream.

The admission process was taken care by JoSAA. We put our colleges on priority and based on that we were called to the college for the admission process. The review process happened in IIT Madras itself.

Eligibility of this course is 12th pass only. You can fill up the form in their official website iitmbs degree. I have not availed for reservation. Every month there will be a in person exams named as quiz1, quiz2, and end semester. In my opinion there is no any improvement needed for the admission process, everything is excellent!!

To be eligible in the course or you need to have a 3 year or four year graduation. The selection is done through cat exam being a gem candidate I would recommend being in 97.5 percentile and above. After get exam you need to apply from the item address website the release forms within a week or so after the cat results are announced the admission processes fairly decent there would be less transparency and you would not be aware of what things are going on so that is one area of improvement where they could respond to emails quicker and pick up the phones.

The qualifying criteria for this Course is not really difficult, you will easily admission if you just have basics of math's cleared upto 10th level. For eligibility for the course we need to qualify to jee advanced exam .and as for last year the cutoff was around 1200 for b.tech mech obc for men. and we'll have a josaa counselling process of 6 rounds and by that, we can enrol on our favoured college based on our rank. after your seat is confirmed they'll send you a confirmation letter which includes all the process of applications.

One needs to write first JEE-mains conducted by NTA based on the cutoff you can qualify for JEE-Advanced which is conducted by any host IIT. The cutoff for advanced is dependent on students category. For general category students the cutoff range is around 90-93 %ile. varies with year. JEE mains is ocnducted in 2 sessions. the NTA counts only the best of the two sessions for final cutoff calculation. Based on the percentile scores you can apply for NITs & GFTIs . After JEE-Advanced is over based on your rankings you need to fill the JoSSA seat allocation form which includes all the IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs. The allocation process is carried out in 6 rounds. after every round you get 3 options. FLOAT: you do not accept allocated institute & the program, you continue in the process. SLIDE: you accept the allocated institute but not he program. FREEZE: you accept both allocated institute as well as the program.

One of my friends is an alumnus of IIT Madras and according to him, Professor V. Balakrishnan’s classes are must-experience classes at IIT Madras. However, he is not sure whether Prof. Balakrishnan teaches whole courses these days.
My friend was very fond of Prof. Balakrishnan and according to him, if you hear from any of your friends in the Engineering Physics/ Physics Grad stream that Prof. V. Balakrishnan is giving a guest lecture, make sure you attend it. You will learn something new and will be inspired.
The introductory part of the Indian edition of the Feynman Lectures was written by Prof. V. Balakrishnan if I am not wrong. You can read about him on Wikipedia. You will also find some of his finest lectures on YouTube.
His is classes on Quantum Mechanics and Dynamical Systems were my friend’s favorite.
