IIT Kanpur Scholarship 2024
Being one of the top engineering institutes of India, IIT Kanpur offers a wide variety of programs to enroll in and to support the students financially, numerous scholarships are being offered for the 1st year students at IIT Kanpur. Apart from the scholarships offered by the institute, there are several other options for financial aid and scholarship offered by the alumni as well. Some of the popular scholarships at IIT Kanpur are mentioned below.
Merit Cum Means Scholarships:
- The Merit Cum Means Scholarship is offered on the basis of the merits scored by the students in the entrances or last qualification.
- In the scholarship, students receive a full tuition waiver and pocket money of INR 1000 per month.
- In order to be eligible for the MCM scholarship, a candidate must have maintained a minimum CPI of 6.5 and if the minimum CPI falls, the monthly pocket money will be withdrawn.
- The MCM Scholarship can be availed by the candidates belonging to the category of SC/ST or candidates whose annual parental income is less than 4.5 lakhs.
INSPIRE Scholarship:
- INSPIRE Scholarship offered by IIT Kanpur can be availed by the Students of B.S programs within the ALL INDIA RANK (AIR) 10,000 as per Common Merit LIST (CML) in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics departments.
- As an award, students receive an annual scholarship of INR 30,000 per semester (INR 60,000 annually), along with a research grant of INR 20,000.
- However, the scholarship is merit-based, the students must have maintained a minimum CPI of 6.0.
- Also, students are required to submit an undertaking for not getting any other scholarship to the SSPC every semester to apply for this scholarship.
Sports Scholarship:
- Students who have shown excellence in sports events and activities on the campus are eligible to avail the Sports Scholarship.
- IIT Kanpur offers a maximum of 20 scholarships every year along with an amount of INR 1000 for 9 months.
External Scholarship
- The students, who are unable to get institute scholarships are assisted by the institute to apply for various other external scholarships.
- The external scholarships are generally offered under the various government of India schemes.
- The Government of India has launched the National Scholarship Portal for students across the country as per the Prime Minister's Digital India Program.
Donors Scholarship:

- Almost everyone here is smart resulting in too much competition.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
The fees is approximately 1.5L per semester including hostel and all fees expenses. However there are many scholarships for which bright students or financially weak students can apply and easily avail. Also the fees is significantly less for SC/ST or EWS students. A student can also apply for loan. All of this makes the college affordable for all students.

- I like the mapping of campus as every important places are nearby the hostels like lecture halls,sports area and food and snacks shop
- I like that there is no restriction in girls entering boys hostel and vice versa
Dislikes
- Outside the campus there is no place to visit as the campus location is outside the main city.
- According to me the academic are tougher in iit kanpur in comparison to other iits.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
For one semester the total fee is around 130000 including mainly tution fees of around 1 lac, hostel charges of around 15000 and mess charges which vary. In each semester there are various scholarships and financial aid offer and if student fulfill certain criteria then he is eligible for it.

- There are a lot of trees providing us a healthy environment to live and study in.
- It provides various other opportunities to shine like in sports music gaming etc.
Dislikes
- Gender ratio is not good enough here in IIT kanpur
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
The tution fee is around 100000 but then if you are financially weak then I get scholarships of the basis of the annual income of your family. Like u get 66% off if your family income is between 1 to 5 lpa. And a 100% tution fee waiver if your family income is less than 1 lpa .
Likes
- The academics here may be tough but they are enjoyable. Professors are good and the cources here train you to be great. They are tough but relevant
- The clubs here provide great exposure to various things. There are both cultural and technology clubs
Dislikes
- Climate is extreme. It's too cold or too hot during winters and summers.
- The grading is harsh you have to work really hard to score.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
If you have family income less than 5 lakhs then there is no need to pay even a single rupee. Even caste based reservations are there. There are various scholarships available which a student can easily available.
Likes
- When i visited the college for the first time a year ago, i was astonished by the beautiful campus. The campus was lush green, beautiful and drones and other technical instruments flying and what not. The hostel was also quite nice .
- During my first semester, the academics was not much touch as i had heard of, it was easy and you could pass by starting to study a week before the exams. However, they became slightly tough in the second semester, but it was manageable.
Dislikes
- There is not much but the attendance criteria in some courses.
- Some professors are very intelligent but they lack the ability to teach or to convey the knowledge to the students.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
Tuition fee is normal. However, there are scholarships if your income is low or you are a category student. If your income is less than 1 lakh, you get 100% scholarship. If less than 6 lakes, you only have to pay one third.

- You can pursue anything which you like from sports to any cultural activities
- IIT Kanpur has arts club, music club, aerodynamics club ,etc.
Dislikes
- Everything here happens very quickly so you cannot settle properly
- Full semester happens in about 4 months in which you have midsem and endsem exam
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
I have not seen any hike in tuition fee in my academia. Complete cost is around 10 lakhs excluding hostel charges There are many scholarships here if you are needful which will make your tuition fees almost 0. Proper placement happens here and you will get a lot of opportunities in different companies

- Pressure of society and by professors in campus
- Hype by the society is so bad and worst to survive

Tution fee is high but if your income is less than 1 lac tution fee will waive of and if your income is less than 5 lac your 66% of fees will waive off Complete cost of education is around 12 lac in which tution fee is 8 lac

There is availability of scholarships and financial assistance for economically challenged students. But without scholarship, the tuition fee is 1 lac per semester. This excludes the Mess Establishment Charge and Mess bill which comes to be more than 25k per semester.

- There are no such things to dislike but yeah food quality of mess is not so good
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
Fee structure of my courses is 116000.This includes tution fees , water charges and so many other things . There are so many scholarships available in my college based on different criteria such as some are based on academic performance and some are on parental income
Likes
- The mess food is really good at my hostel (Hall 2) and there are plenty of sports facilities like volleyball, badminton courts, table tennis that are available in almost all of the hostels.
- There is a lot of greenery in the campus which attracts peafowls, Neelgais, etc.
Dislikes
- The location of IIT Kanpur in Kanpur, U.P can make students who come from the metro cities feel a little isolated at times.
- The academics can sometimes get very rigorous and hectic and can demand a lot of time from the students which can affect their time that is dedicated for the student clubs and other extra curriculars.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:
There is no current hike in the tution fee but the overall cost of a UG program is regarded to be high for a general category student. The complete cost of accomodation and messing for the 4 years is approx. INR 432,000. I'm about to undertake the internship drive conducted by the placement office in my 5th semester which will be after the summers.
