IIT Patna Admissions 2024
IIT Patna admission in more than 40 UG & PG Courses is offered via various national-level exams. For admission to the IIT Patna flagship B.Tech program, applicants are required to secure a valid rank in JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counselling. Allocation of seats for the B.Tech course is done online via JoSAA counselling, based on the applicant’s rank, category, availability of seats, and other factors.
IIT Patna also offers admission to PG courses such as M.Tech, M.Sc, etc. To secure a seat in these popular programs, students should obtain valid scores in the national-level entrance exams including IIT JAM, and GATE, followed by the PI round. IIT Patna Scholarships 2024
- For both UG and PG students, IIT Patna offers the Merit Cum Means Scholarships and other numerous scholarships under the Central Scheme Scholarships to help them financially and cover their academic costs. The following list includes a few of the institute's scholarships.
- Merit Cum Means Scholarship: IIT Patna provides MCM scholarships to deserving and needy undergraduate and graduate students participating in 2-year M.Sc. programs. I choice this college because iits vomes over any other colleges and they were offering 100% placement in their brouches. And iits are always good. The faculties of iits and many more things but didn't get as expectations.

- I really liked the clubs and availability of almost each of the clubs anyone wants. There are clubs for Anime, Art, Dramatics, Dance, Music, Cooking, Quiz, Cubes&puzzles, photography, literary club and what not. This makes the college life more fun.
- The coding culture is top tier and almost every 2nd student you will meet in 2nd year+ will be deadly in technology. It may be either ML or either CP, almost everyone is up to something even mechanical guys or chemical guys will be doing CP.
Dislikes
- I didn't like the weather specifically, it'll make you lose 300ml of sweat easily (not even kidding). Even in Monsoons the scorching heat is such a pain. The winters are extreme too and in winters you will have to experience that 10 centigrade temp.
- The food quality is something you will have to adjust with, the food is worse as any other IIT or college (unless it's some thapar or expensive college). You'll need to get habitual with water and minor inconveniences in food so one needs to adapt.
Admission:
I chose this college due to its Coding culture which is top tier here. IIT Patna goes to ICPC every year (atleast since these last 3-4 years) which even some Gen 1 IITs don't and it ranks in top 10 in Inter IIT Tech Fest (since last 4-5 years) atleast ranking above Madras even last year. The coding culture will be visible when we come here because even a metallurgy guy may be coding and doing CP too. Other than CP, ML and Dev, all sorts of people with expertise in different fields you may find. The reason why it had better placements than some Gen 1 IITs is because of this coding culture. I wanted to go to University of Edinburgh and got offer too but It was not financially viable for me to choose so I came here. For coming to IIT Patna you need to get a good rank in JEE Advanced (rank depends on branch and category etc.). There are BTech and BS courses for which you can get admission and majority come through this. BSc course exists but its infamous and hated by all (us-BTech/BS)

I am a CSE student at IIT Patna and I will try to justify why choosing IIT Patna for your
CSE is a good decision. Don’t base your choice on how old an institution is.
All the new IITs like IIT Patna or IIT Jodhpur are doing exceptionally well, some are even competing against the old IITs. IIT Patna has a great campus and it has achieved tremendous success in a short span of time.
CSE department has a learned and supportive faculty and great seniors. The teams have always performed exceptionally well in the ACM-ICPC and have even made it to the world finals. A good number of students clear the GSoC( Google Summer of Code).
NJACK club organizes tutorial classes and workshops on Web development, App development, Android, etc. It also organizes competitions like Capture the Flag, NWoC-an open source coding event, and other competitions throughout the year.
Other interdisciplinary teams which you can join are ROBOCON, Supra BAJA, HPVC etc.
CSE alums at IIT Patna have made successful startups and others are working in good positions at top MNCs. Overall, the coding culture over here is excellent.

My friend was in a similar dilemma last year and chose DTU over IIT Patna. She considers new IITs overhyped and not at par with the IIT standards. Running after the IIT tag is not logical and you should look at the bigger picture. Anaise your career prospects and see if other options fit your prospects or not.
DTU is a great option for CSE considering the excellent exposure and opportunities you will get in Delhi, the capital. The salary packages, the companies, and the profiles offered at DTU are similar to the new IITs if not better.

My friend had options of Ph.D. from JU, IIEST as well as IIT Patna and still chose IIT Patna. However, your personal preferences also come to play here. So consider the following points

IIT Patna’s CSE has better placement opportunities than IIT Guwahati’s Mathematics and Computing. Moreover, IIT Patna offers many clubs and societies for its students. These include-
- RnA or Robotics and Aviation Club of IIT Patna. It is a newly formed club that focuses on drones, MAVs (Micro air Vehicles), and aviation robotics.

- Supportive faculty: In general, faculty members in IITs/NITs are not always supportive or enthusiastic about teaching. However, in IIT Patna's CSE department, most of the professors are very chill and supportive.
- Placement: The placement record of IIT Patna's CSE department is remarkable. Students with a CPI greater than 7 have a 100% placement rate. The average package offered is around 15 LPA, and the highest goes up to 50 LPA (last year's data). Students like Ashutosh Agarwal have even received a package of 1.8 crores from Google.

The Mechatronics branch in itself is not very developed in India irrespective of whichever institute offers it. IIT Patna is a new IIT and lacks the necessary resources and infrastructure while NIT Surathkal has a very challenging curriculum for MTech Mechatronics. The breakdown is 60% Mechanical and 40% Electronics. Students from other domains find it difficult to cope with the rigorous curriculum.
Although the faculty pool comprises good professors, the placement scenario is just average. So try looking for other options or go for IIT Patna instead.

While the average package is almost same for the two institutes, i.e, around INR 21.5 LPA at IIT Madras and INR 23.8 LPA at IIT Patna. The highest package provided by IIT Madras in 2023 was INR 2 CPA while IIT Patna offered the highest package of 82 LPA.
IIT Patna may not offer B.Sc. Honors course. It offers only B.Sc. in General mode. The average package offered in the IIT Patna to the B.Sc. students can be around Twenty four lacs per year.
IIT Patna CSDA (Computer Science and Data Analytics) course is a 6 semester duration course. The per semester fee is INR 46 thousand. This is the fee of students admitted during 2024 (Autumn Season).

Candidates who have completed B.Tech from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 and above are exempted from submitting the GATE scores. Candidates will be shortlisted for the M.Tech program on the basis of their GATE score. Then, there will be an interview round conducted by the institute. For the final merit list for admissions, 70% weightage will be given to the GATE scores and 30% to the interview.
IIT Patna offers B.Sc. in Computer Science and Data Analysis. The course is offered in Honors mode. The eligibility of the course is to complete 10+2 with 60% atleast. The per year fee is INR 80 thousand. The admission to the course is based on State Entrance Examination.
