All about Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur

The course curriculum is quite good. There are usually 2 quizzes, 1 mid term examination and 1 end term examination for each course. There are some courses in which it is easy to get good grades and also some where is difficult. Overall each course focuses on relevant topics which are very interesting to learn.

There are many internships opportunities available for students in IITK. One can apply for internship from 2nd year onwards. The stipend typically ranges from 10k to 1.5lacs a month depending on the job.

The placement statistics of IITK is great. Every year many 1cr+ packages as well as international packages are offered by top companies to students. The placement percentage is also increasing every year. The students become eligible to apply for companies after 3rd year ie. after 6th semester. The highest package offered was 4cr per annum while the average package was 22lacs per annum. My plan after getting the degree is to get a good paying job and start working.

The fees is approximately 1.5L per semester including hostel and all fees expenses. However there are many scholarships for which bright students or financially weak students can apply and easily avail. Also the fees is significantly less for SC/ST or EWS students. A student can also apply for loan. All of this makes the college affordable for all students.

The campus life of IITK is great. It has a lush green and huge campus. The classrooms are well equipped with world class facilities. The sports facility is also well maintained. There are 3 sport grounds, 2 students activity centre and a place for every sport one can play. There are clubs for every extracurricular activity as well. You name a society and IITK has it. From Anime society to Rap society, IITK has everything covered. Even if not, you can start your own society easily. The club culture is great. All the books a student can need are available in the Library which is open everyday till midnight. During exams library is open round the clock ie. 24hours. Besides library there are also many other places to study like the student lounge, RM building, computer centre etc. There are 3 fests are IITK namely- Antaragni (cultural fest) & Udghosh (sports fest) in October and Techkriti (technical fest) in March. Every year students from all across the country attend these fests.

There are seperate hostels for girls and boys in IITK. The fresher girls are given Hostel-4 and the fresher boys are given Hall-13. Both the hostels are well maintained but the size of the room is small. There are double occupancy rooms where 2 beds, 2 cupboard and 1 study table is provided. Every hostel has its own mess which serves good food. The hostel and mess both are affordable and the quality of living is great.

To take admission in IITK, one must clear JEE Mains and then JEE Advanced with a decent rank. The candidate must also have 75% (65% for SC/ST) in 12th boards examination or be in the top 20 percentile of the board . There is a different cutoff in JEE mains and JEE Advanced for general and reserved candidates but after admission all are treated the same.

The faculty members are very qualified from esteemed universities and are the best in their fields. The faculty to student ratio is also great. Many faculty members are approachable via emails and direct interaction so you can interact with them.
