Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur are well-respected institutions, known for their high-quality education and research. Comparing the two is already justified and saying that one institution is becoming the next of the other is more so. Both institutions have their strengths and areas of expertise. Yet, if I was to choose one I would have always gone for IIT Kanpur. 

Some points that favor my preference are as follows:

• The quality of coursework at IIT Kanpur is extremely challenging and will keep you on your toes always. It offers the best quality of education and you will learn much more than other IITs if you are regular to classes and take your academics seriously,
• The usual schedule of a student at IIT Kanpur is not always jammed, unlike the general opinion. The timings of the clubs align with the classes and you can take out time for both if you are good at managing your time well.
• Another challenging aspect of IIT Kanpur is its tough grading system, (10,8,6,4..) under which anything below 10 is 8. Thus you are under tremendous pressure to maintain your CGPA and is enough of a motivating factor.

Overall, even if Guwahati was to be compared to IIT Kanpur, it still has a long way to go until it becomes the next IIT Kanpur.

IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati are well-established and reputed institutions in India. Both of them have pros and cons. If you need to secure your career in a good company, IIT BHU is a good option for you. They are best at placement support and academics, and you will have the advantage of the branch change policy. Let us have a detailed comparison between IIT BHU and IIT Guwahati

Placement Support – The recruiters from major companies mostly give placement to the students from IIT BHU. This institution is renowned for its placement support, and they confirm that they provide effective placement for their students contingent on their caliber in the respective field. At IIT Guwahati, only a lesser number of students got placed in big companies with high-salary jobs when compared with IIT BHU.

Campus – Both institutes offer good campus life to the students. They have good infrastructure and a top library facility. IIT BHU is situated in the center of the city, so you will have easy access to everywhere

Branch Change Policy – IIT BHU has a branch change policy that will allow you to change your branch to CSE after the first year. Only 10% of students with a good CGPA will get the chance to change branches.

Academics – Students are given effective classes conducted by experienced scholars in both institutes. You will be given study materials and have a library facility for more references.

If you are interested in CSE but choosing Mathematics and Computing just for the sake of overlapping courses, then trust me you are making the wrong decision. I have seen many CSE branch seekers taking Mathematics and Computer to land CSE-related jobs. Let me tell you frankly, Mathematics and Computing are no substitutes for Computer Science.

If you want to get a deeper understanding of this, go through the Syllabus of Mathematics. You will find most courses that are theoretical, abstract, and purely mathematical and very few courses related to Computer Science. Mathematics at IITs is not everyone’s cup of tea. It is extremely tough, unlike JEE Math. 

However, if you are passionate about Mathematics and want to pursue a research career in it, go for it. The courses might include lengthy proofs of Mathematical Induction and set and relation theory. Discuss the curriculum once with students of Mathematics at IIT and then make the final decision. Usually, the coursework in Mathematics and Computing is the same for all the IIT Branches.

To sum it up, if you are planning to take Mathematics and Computers just for the CSE courses, please make a better decision. My best advice would be to go for CSE in a better engineering college like IIT Hyderabad or Indore.

 Instead of recommending any specific institute, there are some myths that need to be debunked first:

• Placements at one institute are better than the other.
• BHU has a wider network.
• IITG has a cooler administration.

You must compare the two courses based on the following features:

• Academic research
• Placement statistics
• Competitive coding
• Open-source development
• Other club activities
• Climate and geography
• Connectivity (and distance from hometown)

If you're specifically interested in CSE, then the first four points are almost equal for both BHU and Guwahati. When it comes to the other points, IITG has a better climate, while Varanasi may be better connected and nearer to your hometown.

So, it's up to you to weigh the pros and cons and decide which institute suits you better. Remember to make an informed decision and choose wisely.
