Courses and faculty - course are interesting and faculty is very enthusiastic and have great knowledge and have helping nature polite
Scholarships like merit-cum-means and institute free studentship are available based on merit and financial need.
Iit guwahati is renowned not only for its academic excellence but also for the picturesque beauty for its campus, making it one the most aesthetically pleasing educational instituitions in india.

Dislikes

Gate was entrance exam for this course.i found the application form and details in iitg website only.reservation is available but i am not eligible for that .exams are so difficult .it is so much difficult
Hostel mess food is very bad, and very less food outlets
The heavy workload, with assignments, projects, and exams, stress students. balancing studies with extracurriculars and personal life is be tough.

IIT Guwahati - Glimpse Into IITs (Top 7)

Likes

It is indeed the most beautiful college campus of country.
Many travel destination nearby college. (Shilong, Tawang, Dzuko, Sikkim etc)

Dislikes

Food is not that good. Mess food is not great , also there are not much outlet in campus (they are still coming)
Academic curriculum is tough in comparison with other IITs.

Placement Experience:

Placements are good . Around 60% students gets placed. More than 250+ companies visits. Many students are preferring DS and Non Tech roles after graduation ( for core branches ) and they are getting good opporutunities in them aswell.

A clear review of iit Guwahati

Likes

Campus is very peaceful and beautiful . campus is big.it got 3 lakes in it . I feel this is the most beautiful iit.very green
The sports facilities are damn good. There are grounds and courts for every sport and games. There is much encouragement. We have quite good number of competitions like inter iit
Clubs are good . There are almost every club. There is club for everything.the clubs are active,good and nice performance

Dislikes

Hostel is okay, least maintained.i feel with maintenance it would be good
The temperature here is too hot . I feel air conditioner should be installed
Food is bad. Very less spicy. Aalo is everyday dish

Course Curriculum Overview:

I personally like electronics and curriculum is not that good, outdated.the curriculum is outdated so it doesn't make you ready for real world. You have to work on your own for it.I feel curriculum should be updated and focus on core subjects rather than math physics kind of thing . The curriculum should be updated for modern world. Exams are quite frequent a sem exam in 2 monthsa quiz in between them and before.

Likes

The exposure to every thing including dance music art
Placement and internship opportunities are good enough
Highly qualified professors from different. IIT and foreign universities

Dislikes

Competitive environment , lot of competition among students
Girls to boys ratio is 1:4 and this is quite less than other colleges
Location is 16 km away from the city because of the big campus

Placement Experience:

The placement is quite good in my college. In 7 th semester the placements start and the package goes from 16lpa to 2 cr . About 75 percent student who applied got placed . I want to work in a software firm.

The campus life is very good, u get a lot of exposure here, there are many clubs and activities where you can learn new things and explore.
The college girls to boys ratio is around 1:4.5.Most of the faculty are very good atleast have completed Phd from highly reputed universities in the country
However students engagement with faculty is not as much as in other colleges, College has nice infrastructure and advanced technologies, curriculum is also good allows you to focus to learn other skills as well

Dislikes

Hostel food isnt upto the mark, most of the cuisine tastes like north-east which is little difficult for other students
Placement in core branches are not so great but good in other circuital branches
The climate in guwahati is little unpredictable , rains frequently , Summers are very hot and humid while winters are cold with fog

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for placements from 7th semester, few students also get pre placement offer from their interships after their 6th semester or in the mid 7th semester. Almost 70% of placement rate in our department with hifhest package around 60lpa and median is 17lpa

IIT GUWAHATI from a first yearites eyes

Likes

The campus is really peaceful serene and beautiful.
The hostel culture is really really strong and that leads to full Chichorre vibes during the GC and is indeed my favourite time of the semester
Something or the other is always happening, whether it be a competition or some fest . There is never a dull moment

Dislikes

The academics are really really heavy and demanding
The attendance policy of 75% is also followed to a T.
The weather during the monsoon semester is horrid. The humidity will want to you to enter your room and never come out

Placement Experience:

As an IIT the placements are ofcourse top of the line. Although my branch is a lot more inclined towards academia but still students can apply for jobs of any field The opportunities to learn different skill is truly endless

Campus is far from the city but institute provides Bus facilities
Less training and mentoring from Placement Cell
Bad sports facilities within hostels and less library books in the hostels

From the seventh semester, one is eligible for Placements. This year(2024-25) 68 percent placement is done for B.Tech. Those who don't get placements either go for higher studies, UPSC, GATE, and some get job by referral from College Alumni.

IITG from a students perspective

Likes

Very good campus environment: Bring a closed campus you get to interact with like minded people. Depite being closed campus and far from guwahati city you get access to all major services at subsidized rates. There are various transport options too.
Student clubs: we have a range of students build and managed clubs in various fields of tech, cultural, sports and welfare
Infrastructure: you get good and well maintained hostel rooms, sports facilities and student activity centres, libraries and auditorium.

Dislikes

Academic: there is a strict attendance policy that inhibit you from taking more extracurricular activities and built something of value
Placement: It is not as good as the likes of IITB or IITD. Some good companies do not visit us especially in non tech roles
Funds for activities: Getting funds for building something in student clubs is very tiresome and difficult.

Placement Experience:

Placement were pretty good. If you have a good profile then you wont struggle to find a job. Though the number of recruiters and avg package is lower than that of other IITs, but still you can expect a 20 to 30lk job on Day 1 of Placement season with is at par with other IITs. Though the number if such recruiters is not massive but is good enough for almost everyone. Placement stats: Avg percent of students getting placed: 80 to 100% Avg package: Day 1: 30 to 40lk Day 2: 15 to 25lk Day 3: 10lk Post Day 3: 5 to 10lk Overall: 10 to 12lk Note: most btech students get placed before day 3 Number of recruiters: 200+ Number of offers made: 4000+

Likes

Quality of infrastructure is awesome. They renew frequently
Campus is beautiful also have a name as the most beautiful campus of all iits.
Course curriculum is nice .not too heavy not too light

Dislikes

Placement services are handled by students mainly and are inappropriate

The boring professors. They have great knowledge but no teaching skills

To be eligible for admission to M.Tech programs, you need to have graduated in B.Tech with 60% or M.Sc/AMIETE degree then appear for GATE entrance test.
