IIT Guwahati Signs MoUs with Assam Startup to Strengthen Entrepreneurship Drive in Northeast India

IIT Guwahati's new partnerships aim to revolutionize entrepreneurship in northeast India through innovation and strategic support. This initiative will focus on innovation, mentorship, and economic growth.

IIT Guwahati to Boost Northeast India's Startup Ecosystem

New Delhi: IIT Guwahati has collaborated with Assam startups through the Assam Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (AIIDC) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to boost entrepreneurship in northeast India on May 27, 2024.

As per IIT Guwahati, the collaboration with FICCI aims to empower startups to boost the economy and make the region important to the national economy. It will further support entrepreneurship in the northeast, focusing on agriculture, women's development, and sustainability. 

The agreement with Assam Startup aims to help startups with mentoring, technology and business support, industry access, and innovation. They will also conduct outreach and work with incubation centres in the region.

The MoU was signed in the presence of IIT Guwahati Director Devendra Jalihal, AIIDC Managing Director Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, FICCI Assistant Secretary General Sumeet Gupta, Assam Startup COO Rajarshi Sarma and other dignitaries.

Views on Collaboration

IIT Guwahati Director Devendra Jalihala said these collaborations will help entrepreneurs turn ideas into businesses, providing mentorship, funding, and market access. AIIDC's Managing Director added that the partnership aims to build a strong startup ecosystem in the region.

Speaking during the event, Mr Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, ACS, Managing Director, AIIDC, said, “AIDC, as the nodal agency for the development of the startup ecosystem under the Government of Assam, is proud to announce the signing of an MoU with IIT Guwahati. This partnership identifies core areas for collaboration aimed at fostering a strong and vibrant startup ecosystem in the region.

Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati said, "IIT Guwahati is proud to serve as a catalyst for innovation and entrepreneurship in the northeastern region and the entire country. Through our recent collaborations with FICCI and Assam Startup, we are hopeful that the collective measures and initiatives we aim to provide will help foster a vibrant ecosystem where budding entrepreneurs can transform their innovative ideas into successful businesses. This collaboration will further enhance our support for mentorship, funding opportunities, and market access, ensuring the Northeast emerges as a vital hub for global economic activity."
