NIT Rourkela B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the B.Tech program at NIT Rourkela the candidates must:

  • Have a Passed 10+2 or any relevant course with a minimum of 75% or be within the top 20 scores in the 12th class exam.
  • For SC/ST, the qualifying marks are 65%.
  • A valid score in JEE Mains followed by JoSAA centralized counseling.

The selection to the BTech program at NIT Rourkela is made based on the rank secured by a candidate in the JEE Main entrance examination. Seats are allocated after the successful completion of the JoSAA counselling process.

NIT Rourkela B.Tech Application Process

  • Fill out the online application form on the NIT Rourkela website and upload the necessary documents.
  • The Institute officials will verify the documents.
  • After the admissions process is completed, you will receive an email with your Roll No. and information from the faculty advisor about how to register for online classes.
  • Each student will be assigned one Faculty Advisor who will guide you through the registration process.

  • Duration: The B.Tech program is a four-year program. However, a candidate may opt for a slow-paced program in some cases.
  • The curricula for the B.Tech programs will be recommended by the Undergraduate Program and Evaluation Committee (UGPEC).
  • The curricula followed in the first two semesters by the students of all disciplines shall be almost common.
  • A department may offer a summer course if the number of UR grades in a subject taught in the autumn or spring semester is significant.
  • Students are advised to attend all the classes without fail to have 100% attendance.
  • Post-matric scholarships (for SC-ST students) are given by the Orissa government. Several scholarships are also provided for students studying at NIT Rourkela like TCS, Merit scholarship, NTS, Indian oil scholarship, ONGC scholarship, etc.

NIT Rourkela B.Tech FAQs

Ques. Is NIT Rourkela B.Tech credit-based or marks-based?   

Ans. NIT Rourkela B.Tech follows a Choice-Based Credit Structure (CBCS). For each subject, students are assigned either 4, 3, 2, or 1 credit.   

Ques. Can an NIT Rourkela student change his/her B.Tech branch?   

Ans. Yes, branch change at NIT Rourkela for the B.Tech program is possible if a student scores a minimum of 8.5 CGPA after completion of the first two semesters subject to fulfillment of other terms and conditions. 

Ques. What if I failed to attend NIT Rourkela B.Tech classes for some reason?   

Ans. If a student fails to join NIT Rourkela B.Tech classes within a week of the commencement of classes, he/ she will be deemed to have abandoned the program. However, a student may be granted leave according to the appropriate provisions in case of serious illness or a family calamity.

Ques. Can an NIT Rourkela B.Tech student stay outside the hostel?   

Ans. Although it is mandatory for NIT Rourkela B.Tech students to stay on-campus, however, is some students desirous of staying outside the hostel need to submit an application form to the Chief Warden’s Office, with full justification after the admission process, is over.
