NIT Rourkela -( an honest review from its undergrad)

Dislikes

  • Campus is not in Fully urban area and railway station in 7 km away
  • Fests are not upto the mark as expected in a top NIT

Course Curriculum Overview :

The subjects taught in the curriculum are as per the New Education Policy (NEP). We are taught about DC machines(motors, generators, etc.), AC currents, power systems, and digital and analog electronics which are useful in industrial work. Some improvements in the course curriculum can be made such as - reducing some syllabus that are only meant to be for exams and not in the field so that students get more time for relevant projects and learn new things. Exams are conducted once every two months. A semester is four months. The difficulty level is moderate but you have to really study well to do well in exams.

Internships Opportunities :

Internshis are generally availed during summer vacation after second year. The companies that visit are-accenture,tata,Wipro,etc... on a junior or trainer post. The stipend varies from 5k to 50k per month.

Placement Experience :

Placements in our college is decent. Students become eligible for campus placements in 4th year. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Accenture, amazon, Accenture,TCS,Wipro ,TATA etc... visit and make 50-60 offers 90% students get placed . My plan after getting degree is getting a job and preparing for UPSC

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Tution fee in not increased regularly. It doesn't have any specific rule. Every year mess fee increases a little bit which doesn't affect you much. My complete cost of education in 400000 INR. after availing tution fee waiver ( otherwise overall fee in 900000). Student of sc/st category and other students of any category with family income less than 1 LPA get complete tution fee waiver. Students with family income between 1 LPA and 5 LPA get 2/3rd tution fee waiver.

Campus Life :

Life here is decent and chill. You get to hangout with friends, nice places to spend quality time. Technical fest- INNOVISION (November) Annual fests - NITRUTSAV (January), cosmopolitan (February or March). Almost 1 lakh books in Libra and east to access. Classroom with latest technologies, smart board, Air conditioned..

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel Life is quite satisfactory. Room is two-seater, we get two beds, two chairs and two tables along with a tubelight,a ceiling fan, a LAN. Meal quantity is phenomenal and menu is also very very good, trust me. You will love it. Registration process is very easy for hall accomodation, it gets done during admission itself.

Admission :

Eligibility - minimum of 75% marks in 12th or equivalent exam. I qualified JEE MAIN exam to join this college. Application form on nta official website , application fee is INR1000( for sc/st -INR500), Application dates are generally in January and March. Reservation benefits -SC/ST, OBS, EWS,PWD, girls quora, home state quota Exams happen once every year( two attempts are given -the best one is considered). The difficulty level is moderate to high.

Faculty :

Almost all professors are from TOP-7 IITs. The faculty to Student ratio is approximately 1:26. You can contact professors online through Gmail or call them , some reply to your call. The best option is to go their cabins in official timing. You will find them easily there. You can ask your doubts anytime. They are cooperative.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is similar to all the colleges. but the extra curricular facilities provided by the college, differen societies present in differen domain will help you in growing your skills and knowledge in your sector. College keep organising tech fest, alumini meet, and global awareness meeting to keep the students up to date with present world. Course curriculum can be improved, I personally think, many new elective subjects are added which are not beneficial for my stream CSE.And the attendace is very compulsury for getting ood marks. Smart Boards and White Board teaching ares used which depends on teacher's choice. There is normally two exams in a semester , midsem of 20 marks in time 1hr 30 min, and endsem exam of 50 marks in 3 hr, and the rest marks depend on subject faculty. Mostly examination level is normal , if you are good student you can cover the syllabus in 1 week before exam.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario for now it not that good. There is regression going on so the companies aren't taking that many students. From the 3rd year you are eligible for placements. 450 companies came this year for placements making 5200 job offers. The highest placement this year was 63 lacs by Yugabyte. Average CTC is 8.5 lacs in all streams. Mass recruiters like Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini, Mindtree, Bosch, Ericsson, IBM etc. Many other notable companies that visited are Bain & Company, CME group, DE shaw & co, JP Morgan Chase etc. According to kiit website, 90% students are placed. 2100 students also got internships via capstone route. My plans after getting the degree is to do a job for some years and then after getting some experience I want to do a startup.
