To avail admission to this course you have to secure a good rank in jee mains.THen you can apply for Josaa counseling then if your ranking comes under this then you will avail of the benefit. Exams difficulty is medium to tough, there are mid-semester examinations and end-semester examinations while doing assignments and normal tests in between.

The admission process is very simple, the guy has to appear in the JEE Mains examination, and after Jossa and CSAB counseling, he or she gets the seat according to his rank in JEE Mains. The process is very fair and simple, i.e., study hard to get the seat.

The admission of NITC us conducted through JOSAA and is primarily based on All India ranks. As a first tier NIT in the country the cutoffs are high and predominantly determined by All India rank. Additionally community ranks are considered which have a high bar.

Cutoff for general is pretty hing around 95 percentile For sc /st reservation is available and for then the cutoff is 55/49 percentile. Computer science is more demanded course followed by EC and EEE . For this course we need a percentile of 98-100 percentile

To get admission in NIT, we have to pass jee mains which is conducted in two phases. The further procedures are available in Jossa official site. They conducted several rounds for getting admission there. After getting admission we can directly enter to college procedures which is friendly to everyone.

I got into the course after clearing jee with 97.2 and got into civil. The counselling is under josaa followed by csab.We need to pay additional amount to csab if we are not content with the course alloted by josaa. Then we need to physically report to college as per the alloted date.

Admission is through JEE mains, cutoff is around 96 percentile for core courses, admissions starts just after CSAB round. Admission procedures are really lengthy, which is the only main issue i faced . Nothing that hectic

The admission to this course was based on the rank i got in jee mains . The admission process was simple and was in their official site . It was completef on the day of physical reporting . Reservation students have a better chance of getting admission as they have reserved seats . Every sem has a midsem and an endsem exam , and quizzes are conducted frequently by the faculty members to give internal marks . The exam difficulty is on the higher side as it has relative grading .
The course need 98 or 97 percentile for general category. 96 and 97 for OBC category and 70 to 80 percentile for SC/ST category for electrical and electronics department. Admission process should be more friendly to the new candidates

NIT Calicut offers an array of scholarships for its students enrolled among the different programs offered by the institute. Each scholarship of NIT Calicut has its own eligibility criteria and each individual is awarded only one scholarship among all only after he/she satisfies the minimum requirements. Also, the students are required to renew their scholarship each semester/year without having any backlogs. Some of the most popular scholarships offered at NIT Calicut are mentioned below.
Apart from the above-mentioned scholarships, students of NIT Calicut can also apply for several other scholarships on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and Education Loan provided by different banks to lessen the financial burden of students by providing easy EMI options. The other scholarships offered at NIT Calicut are as follows:
Ques. How can I renew my scholarship award at NIT Calicut?
Ans. NIT Calicut has renewal criteria for each scholarship offered by the institute such as a minimum CGPA in the last semester, annual family income, etc. Students are required to meet the basic requirements for the renewal of scholarships.
Ques. Are education loans available at NIT Calicut?
Ans. Yes, NIT Calicut offers education loans for students who are unable to get scholarships. The education loan is offered by SBI on the basis of the family earning which allows the students to pay the entire tuition fee in easy installments.
Ques. What documents are required for scholarships at NIT Calicut?
Ans. The required documents for the Scholarship application are mentioned below:
For EE/EEE, out of NIT Surathkal, NITW, NIT Trichy, MANIT Bhopal, MNNIT Allahabad, NIT Calicut, and MNIT Jaipur, I would suggest three institutes in the following order of preference-
My best friend is studying EEE at NITK and he is quite happy with the department. The teachers in the department are a bit strict. But if you bring up a good project idea and stay attentive in their class, you’ll be in a good position. Also, scoring good grades can be a bit tough, but with hardwork and good preparation, you will surely ace your exams.
In terms of EEE placements, NITK, NIT Trichy, and NITW are all equally good options.
As a NITK student, you will get certain benefits. These are-
Thus, out of NIT Calicut, NITK, NITW, and all the other options listed by you, I would suggest you to choose NITK Surathkal for your EEE.
NIT Calicut is safe for girls but most of its rules are very regressive and gender biased. In the girls' hostel, first-year students have to seek multiple permissions for something as simple as going out to get paracetamol. The NIT Calicut girls hostel curfew starts at 7 PM for first year girls and is relaxed to 9 p.m. for seniors. The exit timings are 6 AM onwards. Everyone has to attend the daily roll calls.
To travel home, you must submit your permission form two days in advance and exit/enter the hostel between 7 PM to 6 AM. This causes a lot of inconvenience, especially if your train is scheduled at odd hours.
Hostel amenities are quite average, and just enough for survival.Traveling from Kolkata to Kozhikode is not easy, even by flight. You will get to visit home only during the summer breaks. Also, take up EP only if you are really passionate about Physics and are planning to go for higher studies. If you plan to work in the industry, the placements for EP are quite low. If you can manage with its policies and far-off location, NIT Calicut has a great learning environment and quality of education. Its campus is also really good. NIT Calicut enhances your personality and aids your growth.
Consider all these factors before making a final decision.
As a Civil Engineering student, I will dissuade you from pursuing this branch. You might be considering Civil for the tag of IITs, NITs or BITS. The campus placement scenario is not good for Civil and you will be left to either pursue an MS abroad or prepare for GATE/ESE. Both these options have nothing to do with the college tag. You can get an IT job through campus placements, but core jobs are highly difficult to grab. Also, the salary you will be offered in core jobs will not be at par with your NITian tag. Practically speaking, to crack GATE and ESE is more difficult than to crack JEE Mains because of one’s age group at this point. Other government exams are highly irregular and can not be depended upon.
For an average student, it is better to go for CSE or Electronics at an average NIT/ other college. The scenario is not pleasant for Core branches, especially Civil, in India. However, if you are passionate about pursuing Civil, its official placement figures for 2022 are provided by NIT Calicut.
These are the official figures for Civil Engineering 2022 placements at NIT Calicut -
Course |
Students placed |
Highest CTC |
Average CTC |
B. Tech Civil |
86 out of 98 |
11.4 LPA |
7.36 LPA |
I suggest you consult with the seniors and alumni of the Civil branch of NIT Calicut to get a clearer understanding of the ground reality. Go ahead with this branch if you are passionate about it, otherwise choose among the Circuit branches.
CSE is the best branch at NIT Calicut for your B.Tech. It has the best placement record and highest packages among all the branches. The course structure is such that you will have plenty of free time at your disposal. There is less workload and fewer classes in CSE. The faculty is filled with experienced and supportive teachers.
You should visit the department’s website. Also check out the course curriculum and syllabi online to get a fair idea of the academics and what courses/books you will be studying.
If you want to pursue B.Tech CSE, you can definitely consider doing it from NIT Calicut.
Here are some things you can do at NIT Calicut to make the most of your free time-
To keep yourself busy, you can join karate classes. This will keep you active. If you are into video games, you will always find others to join you. You can watch late night movies and tv series with friends. You will surely end up cooking some maggie in your kettle when late night hunger strikes. You can go cycling during the weekends, in the morning. But make sure to take proper care and use proper bicycles because the roads in Kattangal are very steep. Apart from all this, if you wish to explore a bit, you can visit IIM Kozhikode or Munnar/ Kochi.
All that I listed up till now are fun activities. But for a more productive weekend, you can read novels or take part in quizzes and prepare for those. You can also be a member of a club at NIT Calicut. By organizing club events, you can connect with various people and learn management skills.
If you are a CSE student, your workload will be quite less at NIT Calicut. Thus, you will get plenty of free time. You can use this leisure time by participating in extracurriculars, learning a new skill and making memories with your friends.
Here is my experience of staying at NIT Calicut as a North Indian-
You will feel culture shock when you first arrive at NIT Calicut. But as time goes by, you will start loving this place and your college.
NIT Calicut has some of the most illogical rules regarding branch change, some of these include:
As a result of this ridiculous policy, a more deserving candidate fails to change his branch. For example, someone with CGPA 9 could not change his branch because he was the 3rd topper of his branch while someone with a CGPA 8.8 can change his branch if he is the topper of his branch.
So, branch change at NIT Calicut depends a lot on your CGPA and obviously your luck!
My friend is currently pursuing MCA from NIT Calicut and is having the best time of his life. The program is considered to be one of the top MCA programs in India.
Overall, the MCA course at NIT Calicut is a great choice for students who are interested in pursuing a career in computer science.
Every coin has two sides and likewise, every college you join will have its unique strengths and weaknesses. Knowing these beforehand helps you manage things and prepares you better. So here are a few pros and cons one must be aware of before joining ECE at NIT Calicut
Pros
Cons
Overall, the NIT Calicut ECE department will bring in a number of challenges but if you are interested in the branch you will get to experience an unmatched learning environment and opportunities.
It is difficult to adjust to the hostel food at NIT Calicut, especially for students outside Kerala. Even though you have the option to change from one mess to another monthly based on your preference, which is interesting for the first few months, gradually you will end up bored with the food and start feeling like all the ten options for food are almost the same.
