Cochin University of Science and Technology - [CUSAT], Kochi

Like any other institution, CUSAT has its own pros and cons. 

Here is the best and worst of studying at this university-

Best-

1. CUSAT at one point, was to become a central university. It has a high reputation, especially in the eyes of the older generation. 
2. Studying at CUSAT is a great opportunity to be exposed to the rich culture of Kerala.
3. The university ground is huge, and the Basketball court is fully filled in the evenings.

Wrost-

1. The teaching lacks enthusiasm and spirit. The classroom lectures are a waste of time.
2. The academic calendar is not properly followed.
3. Some teachers are not student friendly at all. They have a bit of an ego problem.
4. The attendance criteria is much hated by all students.
5. It is a lot of work to even get an application approved. The office staff is very inefficient.
6. The uniform makes things very dull and monotonous. 

 These are just some of the goods and bads of CUSAT. Overall, the time spent at this university is filled with unforgettable experiences and cherished memories.

If you're considering CUSAT for your engineering degree, here are some important points to keep in mind:

• CUSAT is a good college overall, but the quality of placements can vary depending on which branch you choose.
• The CS, Safety, and Fire branches tend to have good placements, while Mech, Civil, and Electrical branches have poor placements. If you're in one of these branches and want a good placement, you may need to consider switching to an IT company.
• If you're from North India, you may find that college life at CUSAT is particularly enjoyable compared to other colleges.
• For most engineering degrees, it's better to get into one of the government colleges. However, if you're interested in Safety, Naval Architecture, or Marine Engineering, CUSAT is one of the best colleges in the country for these disciplines.
• The syllabus and course content at CUSAT is excellent, which is a major advantage if you're interested in pursuing an engineering degree.

Overall, if you're looking for a good engineering college in India and are interested in one of the specific disciplines mentioned above, CUSAT could be a great choice for you. Just be aware of the potential differences in placements across different branches, and consider switching to an IT company if you're in a branch with poor placements.

Safety and Fire Engineering, Naval Arch, and Ship Building are the best branches of CUSAT. These branches are unique and are offered only at a few locations across the country. CUSAT placement for these branches is pretty good. The average CTC for these branches is around INR 7-10 LPA. 

Other than these, non-core branches like CSE, IT, and ECE also have good placement records. 

CUSAT is a decent institute, which is quite famous across the country. My sister has studied there and the following are some major key highlights of CUSAT as per her experience:

• There is a 50:50 gender ratio in CUSAT. This makes it evident that CUSAT is popular in both North and South India, and not just in Kerala.
• It is a good institute and has two campuses. The first campus is in Cochin, known as SOE, and the other in Alleppey, known as CUCEK.
• The placements in both the campus of CUSAT are almost the same. There are some misconceptions in the minds of people that the campus in Alleppey is somewhat inferior in placement and other facilities. But, the truth is that students from both campuses get more or less equal opportunities.

• There are some concerns about placement among the freshers in CUSAT. For getting a decent job, students need to study during their entire course, and clear all backlogs, if any, before their placement.
• For students from North India, it is a little difficult to stay in Kerala. But, there are dedicated North Indian hostels for such students where they get the atmosphere and food they want.

Therefore, CUSAT is a decent option for students in engineering and computer application.
