I like things related to fire and safety in general, i took pcm for the 11 12 board exam and was familiar with safety and fire from 8th standard so BTECH SFE in CUSAT SOE seemed like a no brainer. Curriculum is frequently being updated every 5 years. Faculties are average in general. But should say there are exceptions

This course is unique and is not there in any colleges in kerala. It covers basically everything needed for a safe and foolproof plans that would allow for the best possible constructions and etiquettes. Im just 1 yr so i cant tell much more about the curriculum

My course which is safety and fire engineering has 100% placement and average 12 lpa . The syllabus was changed in 2023 according to change in the industries. Being an autonomous institute it can be changed easily

Btech safety and fire engineering have the most placement percentage in cusat. There will exams with a intervals of one half months. The sem will end within 5 months. If duration of the sem increases it will be more helpful.

The curriculum has been recently updated considering the relevancy and that makes me happy. But sometimes it does weigh too heavy on most of the students especially at the beginning. But most of them usually manage to go through them and they usually find the rest of the curriculum way easier. But the things that I learn feels applicable in today's world and it has my interest.

The main reason why I choose this course is because of its placement, in safety fire last year the average package went is almost 11 lakhs, which is really good, the academics are very good they change syllabus frequently
Mainly the campus placement percentage almost all students passing out of this course are placed and also the monetary opportunity is vast and the relative ease of the course The curriculum has not yet offered any real-world application to the course and will only be taught after 1st year Old methods of teaching and treating students like children. Strikes are a common thing on the campus Exams are conducted once every month and sem exams are conducted once every 6 months , the difficulty level is average but varies with the subject
8Campus placement and reservation benefits Haven't been in a job yet Needs to include workshops based on real life scenarios Usually once every two months but sometimes on ce every 1.5 months timing of exam varies from 2 hours for internals to 3 hours for seminar exam

Class starts from 9 and ends at 4 . Class rooms are not air conditioning. Also climate is very hot . Staffs are very friendly. labs are good . Class room is a little bit congested. Teachers are friendly
Mainly the placement average salary and job security. Safety is a field which is not easily replaceable and is much more secure than IT field. Haven't completed the course yet not sure Getting teachers with more college like mindset and doesn't treat kids like school children giving notes as PDFs etc The difficulty is average. The exams are frequent with an exam every month but it depends on the semester duration.
BTech Safety and Fire Engineering at CUSAT is a lucrative branch with great career opportunities. Almost 90% of students graduate with a placement offer. But the career outcome of the institute is limited since it is not a mainstream branch. You may face problems in the future if you want to go for competitive examinations like GATE. Go for this branch, only if you are sure that you want a career in this field. Since not many institutes offer this engineering degree, the competition is less. It is easy to secure a good placement opportunity.
Course Highlights:
The above discussion should give you an idea about the Safety and Fire Engineering at CUSAT.
Both the institutes are government institutes and provide best in class education when it comes to Fire and safety engineering. They offer good placement opportunities in government and private organizations with good packages. However, NFSC Nagpur might be the choice to go due to the following reasons.
CUSAT:
Let’s discuss CUSAT first.
NFSC Nagpur:
Considering all the facts above it is safe to say that NFSC Nagpur is the best option of the two. It is a central Govt. college under the Ministry of Home Affairs and has a rich alumni network in major public and private organizations.
I have a few friends at CUSAT, so I think I can give you an idea about the placement opportunities available for their Fire and Safety department.
Fire and Safety Engineering can be quite challenging. If you are serious about your studies and put in the required effort you will definitely have enough opportunities at the time of placements. But if you are not that serious about academics and end up having backlogs the faculty will not help you during placements.
If you are sincere you can get packages similar to the ones offered at reputed IITs and NITs. Here is a brief highlight of the recent placement statistics for the branch.
Also, it is worth mentioning that CUSAT is NBA Tier - 1 accredited. Other than CUSAT, only IITs and NITs have NBA accreditation. So, CUSAT is definitely a worthy choice for a B.Tech in Fire and Safety Engineering.
It depends where your interest lies. But if you think according to the placement opportunities, safety, and fire engineering is much more preferred due to the high demand in the industry. The faculty is also well-qualified along with the quality education that the college provides. But safety and fire engineering deal with a lot of safety responsibilities so, if you are opting for this branch be prepared for that.
However, if you don’t want to be confined in one specific area then go for Mechanical. As it is a core branch, you can get many specializations later.
So, choose a branch according to your interest.
The Fire and Safety Engineering Department is one of the best at CUSAT. As one of my friends studied there, I might be able to share some details which can help you with your question.
