JEE Advanced Syllabus 2024: IIT Madras has released JEE Advanced syllabus 2024 pdf on its official website, jeeadv.ac.in. Unlike JEE Main and NEET, no change has been made to JEE Advanced syllabus 2024. The syllabus is based on Class 11th and 12th chapters from Physics, Chemistry and Maths. You can check the article below for JEE Advanced syllabus chapter-wise, IIT JEE syllabus pdf download and important topics with weightage.

The JEE Advanced exam consists of two papers- Paper 1 and 2. Both papers are conducted on the same day for 3 hours each. It is mandatory to appear for both the papers to qualify the exam. Those preparing for the exam must note that JEE Advanced Syllabus 2024 Paper 1 and 2 is the same however the pattern differs based on the questions asked. Check JEE Advanced Exam Pattern 2024

  • The questions from JEE Advanced syllabus test the comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates demanding a deeper understanding of concepts and application-based problem solving.
  • Based on the previous year trend analysis, 30-40% of the IIT JEE Chemistry paper is based on Class 11 topics while the remaining 60-70% is from Class 12. For Physics, both Class 11 and 12 topics contribute equally and in Mathematics, around 40-50% of the questions are based on Class 11 chapters.

IIT JEE is among the top 5 toughest exams in the world. With about 2.5 lakh applicants applying for 17,385 seats in IITs, the acceptance rate stands at just 1%. Therefore to crack IIT, you need to ensure a strong foundation in Class 11 and 12 topics. Regularly practice JEE Advanced PYQs and attempt 4-6 full-length mock tests every month to ensure a well-rounded preparation for the exam.

JEE Main vs Advanced Syllabus

Comprehensive Comparison of JEE Main and JEE Advanced Syllabus 2024

JEE Mains is a qualifying test for JEE Advanced. Therefore those preparing for IIT JEE need to first prepare for JEE Mains. NTA revised JEE Mains 2024 syllabus this year with the deletion of 11 chapters across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. However, some of these deleted chapters and topics are still a part of JEE Advanced syllabus 2024 released by IIT Madras. To prepare for IIT you need to know the key differences between JEE Main Main and JEE Advanced Syllabus.

Deleted Topics from JEE Mains syllabus 2024 which are still a part of JEE Advanced Syllabus 2024 are-

  • Physics-
    • Newton’s Law of Cooling & its Experiment
    • Carnot Engine and its Efficiency
    • Free, Forced & Damped Oscillation, Resonance, Doppler Effect in Sound
    • Radioactivity, Radioactive Decay Law
  • Chemistry-
    • Surface Chemistry
    • p- block Elements
    • s- & d- Block Elements
    • States of Matter
    • Metallurgy
    • Hydrogen
    • Environmental Chemistry
    • Polymers
    • Chemistry in Everyday Life
  • Mathematics
    • Binomial Coefficient
    • Sequence & Series- sum upto n terms of special series
    • Rolle’s Theorem and Langrange’s mean value Theorem
    • Scalar and Vector Product

While both exams focus on problem solving, JEE Mains is more focused on numerical-based problem solving while JEE Advanced focuses more on application-based problem solving requiring a strong conceptual understanding. Those preparing for IIT JEE, should start with the basic concepts of Class 12th which are common for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced and gradually shift their focus to the JEE Advanced syllabus. Allocate sufficient time for practicing advanced-level problems and complex concepts.

Ques. What is the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced Syllabus?

Ans. Both JEE Main and JEE Advanced syllabus are based on Class 11 and 12 topics from Physics, Chemistry and Maths. JEE Main syllabus covers a broader range of topics with a focus on basic concepts and their application while, JEE Advanced syllabus delves deeper into core concepts, demanding a more understanding and the ability to solve complex problems.

This year, JEE Main 2024 syllabus has been revised with the deletion of 11 chapters and a few other topics. However, most of these deleted topics are still a part of JEE Advanced 2024 syllabus. For example,

  • In Physics, Carnot Engine has been deleted from Mains syllabus but is still a part of IIT JEE syllabus.
  • In Maths, Scalar Triple Product and Vector Triple Product have been deleted in the JEE Main syllabus but are still a part of JEE Advanced Syllabus.
  • In Chemistry, several chapters have been deleted such as p-block, and s-block Elements which are still a part of JEE Advanced.

Similarly, other topics have been deleted from JEE Main syllabus but are still a part of JEE Advanced. Therefore, students preparing solely on JEE Mains will have no problem in their exam preparation. But those also preparing for JEE Advanced must make sure to cover these topics too to prepare for JEE Advanced.
