IIT Roorkee published GATE 2025 syllabus for Statistics (ST) paper with other subjects as well. As of previous year, no such changes were introduced in the syllabus. The core paper has a weightage of 85 marks and the General Aptitude has 15 marks weightage. The time allotted for completion of the full paper is 3 hours.
The Statistics (ST) paper includes 10 core topics. Out of these, Probability and Calculus have the highest weightage of 20% and 15% respectively. Multivariate Analysis, Stochastic Processes, and Matrix Theory are some other important topics with 8-10% weightage of questions.
As per the “Two Paper Combinations” proposed during GATE 2024 examination, candidates appearing for the Statistics paper can also sit for:
- Computer Science and Information Technology (CS)
- Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA)
- Mathematics (MA)
- Humanities and Social Science (XH)
The syllabus is vast, and candidates need to prepare right away for the 2025 examination. We advise students not to skip any topics. For now, it is better to focus on the Probability, and Calculus parts as they carry the highest weightage as aforementioned. After completing these two topics, students can focus on other topics.
The overall difficulty of the paper stands on the moderate to tough side, and questions from Probability are claimed to be slightly difficult than other topics. However with the best preparation strategy, candidates can ace the paper. “Programmed Statistics” by BL Agarwal, and "Probability and Statistics For Engineers” by Irwin Miller, John E Freund, and Richard A. Johnson can be considered to ace the above said topics. Apart from this, solving previous year's questions can be a great advantage to understand in depth weightage of topics plus difficulty level.
