IIT Roorkee releases Eligibility Criteria along with official GATE brochure in August first week at iisc.ac.in. According to the guidelines, if you are a final year student of B.Tech BE/B.Arch/ B.Sc / Bachelor of Humanities from a recognized university, then you are eligible for the GATE Exam 2025. Foreign Candidates from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are also eligible for the exam.

To get admission into M.Tech programmes at IITs and NITs, you should complete the registration through the COAP Portal. As an M.Tech student, you must apply through a centralised counselling process for GATE 2025 after you qualify the exam.

Minimum Marks Eligibility for MTech Admission Via GATE

However, M.Tech Eligibility criteria through GATE are different across universities. For example, to get admission into BITS, Pilani, you must obtain a 60% aggregate in your B.Tech programme. On the other hand, the institute will organise a separate test for the aspirants.

Academic Details If you have completed the qualifying examination, then you will need to submit your degree certificate (Marksheet) or course completion certificate.
Documents for Appearing Candidates If you are appearing in the qualifying examination in 2025, then you will need to submit a provisional certificate.
Documents for PWD Candidates If you are a candidates with 40% impairment, then you will need PWD Certificate
In Case of Backlogs in Qualifying Examination In case of Backlog (Failed Subjects), you need to upload a final year marksheet, issued by your respective institutes. Internet Download copy will not be entertained.
Document For SC/ST Candidates If you belong to SC/ST category then you will need to submit your caste certificate
Documents for Dyslexic Candidate Dyslexic candidates need to submit a certificate stating their health condition by the authority.

What is a GATE Eligibility Certificate?

  1. GATE Eligibility certificate defines the final year’s scorecard or mark sheet/Certificate issued by the head of the institution. The document must be in a prescribed format set by the authority. And, also a scanned copy of the certificate of the degree program or provisional certificate. The resolution must be not more than 300KB at the time of uploading it while filling up the application Form.
  2. A certificate issued by the principal needs to be uploaded in the situation when the candidate has not received a final year’s degree or provisional certificate from the respective university/institute. In that situation, a Certificate issued by the head or Principle (for use as the eligibility certificate only for the final year or backlog candidates) can be uploaded. The size of the certificate must not be less than 10KB.

Ans. It depends on the universities to which you will be admitted. Most universities accept a 4-year programme. IISc accepts a 4-year BSc into all Mtech programs. IIT K accepts a 4-year BSc for Mtech. According to GATE guidelines, 4-year BSc/BS are eligible.

Ques. Who is eligible for GATE 2025?

Ans. IF you have completed 10+2+2 or 10+3+1 and are currently studying in 3rd year in any undergraduate degree programme from any government-approved degree program in BE/ B.Tech/B. Arch / B.Sc/ B.Com/ B.com are eligible to apply for GATE 2025.
