COAP 2024: The IIT Kanpur authorised GATE COAP main rounds are concluded. The additional 8th , 9th and 10th rounds will commence from June 27 and will continue till July 11, 2024. The GATE COAP 2024 Main Round 5 concluded on June 10, 2024. You can login through COAP portal to check your seat allotment offers through the official website, iitk.ac.in/coap2024. Only those with a valid GATE score (2024/ 2023/ 2022) are eligible for COAP 2024. 

  • IIT Kanpur is conducting five main rounds of GATE COAP counselling, followed by five additional rounds, conducted in case of vacant seats.
  • Candidates can choose a maximum of one offer out of all the offers available in each round of GATE IIT counselling.
  • COAP provides three options to candidates for each round. Candidates can either ‘Accept and Freeze’, ‘Retain and Wait’ or ‘Reject and Wait’.
  • To accept the seats under GATE COAP 2024, candidates need to complete the admission process by logging in to the institute portal, paying the admission fees, and submitting the mandatory documents.

The Common Offer Acceptance Portal or COAP is a common platform for GATE-qualified candidates where IITs upload their M.Tech admission offers. COAP also displays the job offers uploaded by participating PSUs based on their selection criteria. COAP is the GATE counselling process for IIT admission, not a registration portal. Interested candidates must register separately with the respective IITs/ PSUs for admission/ recruitment.

GATE COAP Eligibility

GATE COAP 2024: Counselling Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for GATE COAP 2024 registration, candidates need to fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the authorities.

  • The candidate must be an Indian national.
  • Candidates must possess a valid GATE score (2024/ 2023/ 2022) and intend to apply for admission to COAP participating Institutes.
  • In the case of more than one valid scorecard, the candidates need to provide the scorecard with a better score or rank.

How to register for GATE COAP 2024?

GATE COAP Registration is entirely free and is done online. To register for GATE IIT counselling 2024, candidates need to fill in,

  • Full Name,
  • GATE Registration Number,
  • Date of Birth,
  • Email ID and
  • Mobile number

Only those with a valid GATE scorecard (2024/ 2023/ 2022) are eligble to register for the counselling process. You can follow the steps mentioned in the flowchart below to complete your GATE COAP 2024 registration.

How to accept seat allotment through GATE COAP 2024?

GATE COAP offers three options to candidates who are offered a seat/ job opportunity during IIT counselling. Candidates can choose one of the options provided during the counselling process. These options are:

Option 1- Accept and Freeze

  • This option is selected by a candidate if he/she is willing to accept the available offers and does not like to be considered for upgrading to higher preferences in the coming rounds.
  • Candidates selecting this option will not be considered for admission offer in the subsequent rounds.
  • After clicking the 'Accept and Freeze' option, the candidate needs to click submit button to confirm the submission of his/her decision. Subsequently, the candidate should visit the respective Academic Institute's Admission Portal and follow the procedure as per the instructions on the respective website.

Option 2- Retain and Wait

  • This option should be selected by the candidates that will indicate his/her partial acceptance to any one of the available offers and also would like to be considered for upgrading to the candidate's higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round of offers.
  • Candidates selecting this option will not be considered for the other rejected offers in the current round.
  • However, if any higher preferred offer is made in the next round then the existing 'Retain and Wait' offer will be released. However, a candidate can choose “Retain and Wait” on the same offer (same institute and same program) only twice.
  • Nevertheless, the candidate will be considered for other higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of admission offered in the participating academic Institutes.
  • After clicking the 'Retain and Wait' option, the candidate should click submit to confirm the submission of the decision.

Option 3- Reject and Wait

  • This option should be selected if the candidate is not willing to accept any of the offer of admission in the current round.
  • The candidate will be considered for other higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of admission offered in any participating academic Institutes. Please note, the same offer will not appear in the subsequent rounds as you have rejected this offer. After clicking 'Reject and Wait' option, the candidate should click submit to confirm the submission of the decision.

NOTE:

  • * No, if you have already used Retain & Wait on the same offer twice. The same offer refers to the program “XYZ” of a particular Institute “ABC”.
  • Rounds 1-4 will have the option of (i) Accept & Freeze (ii) Retain & Wait (iii) Reject & Wait.
  • Round 5 will be a Decisive Round, therefore the candidates will have only 'Accept and Freeze' and 'Reject' options to select.
  • Candidates may have to follow spot rounds either online or offline and it could be specific to the institutes.
  • Depending on the vacancy status and admission date, there could be a few more extra rounds from the participating institutes.
  • Additional Rounds are independent rounds and each one is treated like a Decisive Round. That is, the candidates will have only 'Accept and Freeze' and 'Reject' options in these rounds.

Once you submit your registrations, the participating IITs will verify your application and provide your details to COAP based on whether you qualify their admission criteria or not. You can view your details in the ‘COAP Dashboard’. 

  • To check the status of the admission offers, candidates will need to log in to the candidate portal using valid credentials.
  • Under the ‘seat allotment’ option, institute-wise allotment details will be displayed.

  • Candidates will be able to choose one of the available offers, during each round of offers. A candidate can select a maximum of one offer out of all available offers in each round.
GATE COAP: Option Selection
  • After a final choice has been made, candidates must complete the submission process by clicking on Submit button. If a candidate fails to do so, the submission process will be incomplete and it will be treated as if the candidate has not accessed COAP.
  • Candidates who accept and freeze their option must subsequently visit the admission portal of respective institution or PSU job portal to complete the further admission process.

The candidates need to keep in mind the following instructions to successfully complete the counseling procedure.

  • Candidates need to apply to all the IIT institutes separately.
  • The candidates need to bring along all the original documents at the time of GATE counseling for verification.
  • After the GATE result is declared, the candidates are required to keep a check on the official website for all the latest updates.
  • To increase the chances of getting admission into IITs, the candidates are advised to apply to all the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for all the programs such as M.Tech, ME, M.Sc, etc. for which they are eligible.

Ques. What is COAP? How will GATE COAP 2024 be conducted?

Ans. Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is an initiative by IITs where candidates can check the status of their application for M.Tech admissions to IITs through GATE. It is not an M.Tech admission portal and candidates must therefore register at respective IIT portals for applications and then register at GATE COAP 2024 portal. The portal will display which IIT has offered seats for admissions to M.Tech program

Ques. In case I have applied for admissions at IIT, do I need to apply again for COAP 2024?

Ans. Yes, for postgraduate admissions to IIT, candidates will have to apply separately through the COAP portal. All GATE qualified should register at the GATE COAP 2024 portal for making a decision against their offer.

Ques. Are foreign nationals who have qualified GATE eligible to apply for COAP 2024?

Ans. No, only Indian nationals who possess a valid GATE score are eligible for COAP 2024. The foreign nationals can’t apple for the same. Before commencing the counseling procedure, the candidates need to go through th eligibility criteria.

Ans. In this case, candidates will have to apply again. But during the registration process, they have to select “Additional Gate score” option and submit multiple choices.

Ques. What is the process for GATE COAP Registration 2024?

Ans. Candidates can follow the procedure given below for GATE COAP registration 2024:

  • Register with your Name, GATE registration Number, GATE score, Date of Birth, Email ID and Mobile Number.
  • Candidates will receive email/ SMS after successful registration with the login credentials for COAP.
  • After logging in candidates can check the offers made from IITs where they have applied.
  • All the offers will be tagged with COAP registration number.
  • COAP registration number is the same as the GATE registration number but will not contain subject code.
