CUET Exam Normalisation

What is Normalised score in CUET?

CUET UG has been conducted in 27 different subjects and students can make combinations of these subjects as per their choice. As there are many sessions in this exam, there might be a question of how they are going to compare the performance of different students on a common scale as they have given the test in the same subject but on different days. In a single-session entrance test, transforming the raw marks into a common uniform scale using the percentile method is an established method to compare the performance of students with each other. However, in the CUET UG exam, this method can create multiple percentiles for each group of students as the exam is conducted in multiple sessions for the same subject. As a solution to this problem a method called ‘equipercentile’ has been introduced. In this method, the percentile for each candidate is calculated using the raw marks of the candidate as compared to the raw marks of others in the same session. This method is followed for every session across multiple days for the same subject. These percentiles are then equated and converted into normalised marks.

How to Calculate Normalised CUET Scores?

  • To get normalised marks, raw scores must be converted into percentile scores. Using the below-mentioned formula raw score can be converted into percentile.
  • Percentile = Number of candidates who appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than the total score/ Total number of candidates who appeared in the session.
  • CUET results of each session would be prepared in the form of raw scores and percentile scores of total raw scores. To determine the percentile for each student a formula, which is mentioned below, would be used.
  • Percentile of total raw score= Number of candidates who appeared from the session with a score equal to or less than the highest score/ Total number of candidates who appeared in the session*100.

Can I get admission to my desired college only with my CUET score?

Only getting your CUET score would not get you your desired college. You have to go through the counselling process to get admission to any college. Once you get your result you need to register to the online portal of participating colleges. Once you register you need to upload the required documents for verification. You need to fill in your choices of courses and colleges. A seat will be allotted to you according to your merit, choices and availability of seats. After that, you need to pay the seat confirmation fee and report to the allotted college for admission.
