Course Details
IIT Mandi is inviting applications for its MA program in Development Studies for the academic Session 2024-25. It must be noted that candidates taking admission to MA in Development Studies will also get an opportunity to apply for an M.A.+ PhD. Dual Degree at IIT Mandi. There are certain eligibility criteria that the candidate needs to meet to be eligible for the dual degree program.

- IIT Mandi offers a 2-year long full-time Masters programme distributed in 4 semesters.
- The credit requirement is 80-82.
- A pool of Discipline (18 credits) Electives are offered by the institute.
- Students also have to take 6 credits offered in the institute from outside the pool of Discipline Electives for the Development Studies Programme.
- In two practicum courses, groups of 3-4 students work one/two faculty members from different Schools and with diverse research interests to address an existing development challenge from a multidisciplinary perspective.
- Students can avail IIT Mandi Scholarship for MA programs for waiver off on tuition fee.
IIT Mandi MA Eligibility Criteria
I. Candidates who have qualified for the award of a three/four-year Bachelor Degree (B.A./ B.Sc./ B.Tech./ B.E. or equivalent), after 10+2 or equivalent schooling, from a recognized University or Institute with at least 55% marks/6.0 CGPA on a scale of a 10-point/equivalent (a minimum of 50% marks/5.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale/equivalent for SC/ST/PwD candidates), are eligible to apply for admission to the Program.
II. Applicants awaiting final results in the qualifying exam are also eligible to apply. However, their final selection will be contingent on the production of the final mark/grade sheet satisfying minimum marks.

Ans. Yes, during Semester 4, a choice will be given to the students to choose between working on a research project at IIT Mandi and doing a guided internship with an appropriate agency.
Ques. What are the benefits for availing scholarship from IIT Mandi?
Ans. In addition to full tuition fee waiver, following facilities are available to the SC/ST category students in the M.A. programme under this scholarship scheme at IIT Mandi.
- A fixed monthly stipend of INR 2000 will be paid for five months per semester for four semesters (Aug-Dec & Feb-June).
- Free boarding and lodging will be provided for five months per semester for four semesters.
- .An amount of INR 3000/-per year will be reimbursed towards expenses for stationary and books for two years. The bills for the expenditure incurred are required to be produced for reimbursement.
Ques. What is the IIT Mandi Hostel fee?
Ans. IIT Mandi Hostel fee for all program students is INR 6500 per semester. In addition, students need to pay Mess advance Mess of INR 13000 per semester. Due to Covid, IIT Mandi has revised the fee for the time being. Institute has reduced fees for students who have joined after October 31, 2021 and April 15, 2021 from INR 6500 to INR 4550 Per sem.

Course Curriculum Overview:
The coursework of MA Development Studies is multidi-dictionary in nature so it can easily attract students. In my batch, 9 boys and 7 girls are there. All the facilities are either holding Ph.D. or Post-doctoral. Passing exams is not that tough here at IIT Mandi.
Fee Structure And Facilities:
The total cost of the program is INR 1,30,000 (approx.). The institute does provide students with merit based and other scholarships. The scholarships cover the tuition fees and also provide the students with stipend in certain cases
Course Curriculum Overview:
The course syllabus basically involved stuff related to the western himalayas which I found very restrictive. I have started online classes as of now. There are many assignments, presentations,book review, response paper,research paper. In short,they have made sure we cuss them alot because seriously there has been a lot of burden.
Fee Structure And Facilities:
Feasible it is 37 thousands per semester including lodgings and fooding but you have variances in fees from 2nd semester tuition is 10 k less as it has been security charge for token money kept with the institute.
