The IIT JAM 2026 exam date is tentatively scheduled for the second Sunday of February 2026, likely falling on February 8, 2026. The application process will begin in the first week of September 2025, and aspirants will need to apply through the official JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS):https://jam.iitm.ac.in

The exam is conducted every year by a designated IIT on a rotational basis, and for 2026, the official organizing institute is expected to be announced in September 2025.

IIT JAM 2026 Application Process

IIT JAM Registration/Application is likely to open from Sep 1, 2025. Follow the below steps for registration and Application.

  1. Registration: Candidates must first register by providing their name, email ID, and mobile number. An enrollment ID and password will be generated.
  2. Application Form: Upon logging in, candidates are required to provide their personal details, academic qualifications, paper choice, and exam city preferences.
  3. Document Upload: Uploading scanned images of the candidate’s passport-sized photograph, signature, and category/PwD/EWS certificates (if applicable) is mandatory. All files should meet the size and format specifications mentioned in the brochure.
  4. Fee Payment: The application fee is to be paid online via debit card, credit card, or net banking. No offline payment options are available.
  5. Submission and Confirmation: After verifying the details and documents, candidates can submit the form. A confirmation page is generated and must be saved for future reference.

IIT JAM 2026 Application Fee

IIT JAM Application fee needs to be paid within the closing date which is expected to be October 10, 2025. Candidates are required to pay the application fee based on the number of papers they choose and their category.

Further for modification of category/gender/test paper/exam city an additional of ₹300 to be paid during correction process.

The fee is non-refundable under any circumstance. Candidates opting for two papers must ensure that the exam schedules of both papers do not overlap.

Eligibility Criteria for JAM 2026

To appear for IIT JAM 2026, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Educational Qualification: A bachelor's degree in any stream is the minimum qualification. Specific programs may have subject-specific prerequisites.
  2. Final Year Candidates: Students who are in the final year of their undergraduate program are also eligible to apply. However, proof of passing the degree must be submitted at the time of admission.
  3. Nationality: Both Indian and foreign nationals can apply. For foreign nationals, eligibility criteria of the admitting institute will apply.
  4. No Age Limit: There is no upper age limit for appearing in the JAM exam.
  5. Each program has a “Minimum Educational Qualification (MEQ)” requirement, which candidates must verify through the official JAM admission portal.

IIT JAM 2026 Reservation Policy

IIT JAM 2026 follows the Government of India’s reservation guidelines. Reservations are provided for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer (OBC–NCL), Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

Candidates must present valid certificates in the specified format. The OBC-NCL certificate must be issued on or after April 1, 2025. PwD candidates must show a disability of 40% or more to be eligible for reservation.

JAM 2026 Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

IIT JAM is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode with a total duration of 3 hours. The question paper is divided into three sections:
