The institute provides hostel facility and dosent allow students to stay outside the campus. The payment for hostel is done at the admission time itself and on showing the receipt rooms are alloted. The hostel is relatively new and provides ample amount of space for accomodation. It is fitted with multiple elevators as it's a 7 storied building. The mess is also very spacious holding a capacity of 800 students at the same time. The food quality is also good.

Generally we were provided by a single room ( one student per room) with common bathrooms. Generally, each floor has 16 bathrooms with 100 rooms. With 4 of them were in indian style. Each floor has 4 washing machines to wash our cloths. They provide a fan, a tube ligth, a study ligth, a wooden bed, a wooden table with chair and an almara in each room. Every week a single cleaning session is allocated in our hostel. Better rooms with Affordable price were provided. Coming to the hostel mess. General in iits, there will be students from all around the india. So the taste migth vary according to thier taste of an individual. The boys’ hostels at IIT Bhubaneswar are - Mahanadi Hall Of Residence and Brahmaputra Hall of Residence.
The girls’ hostels at IIT Bhubaneswar are - Subarnarekha Hall Of Residence and Ganga Hall of Residence.
The hostels at IIT Bhubaneswar are good and have all the necessary facilities available for the students.
My brother pursued his B.Tech in CSE at IIT Bhubaneswar and according to him-
The hostels are good and all the necessary facilities are provided to the students. You will have a good time at IIT Bhubaneswar hostel.
During the time my brother stayed at the IIT Bhubaneswar hostels, there was one hostel for both boys and girls. One more for each was under construction.
Mahanadi Hall Of Residence (Boys hostel)
My knowledge is limited to the boys hostel only although I believe the girls hostel has similar facilities.
Yes, IIT Bhubaneswar provides single-occupancy rooms to its BTech students. My brother has stayed at the Mahanadi Hall of Residence and told me a few things about it.
Overall, IIT Bhubaneswar has excellent accommodation facilities for its students.
IIT Bhubaneswar hostel accommodation for girls is good. All B.Tech, M.Tech, and M.Sc students stay in Subarnarekhs Hall of Residence (SHR). The hostel has well-ventilated single rooms with a small attached balcony. Each hostel room has a cot, table, chair, and cupboard. Every floor has washrooms and restrooms on both sides. Washing machines are available on every alternate floor.
The hostel has LAN connection. There’s a basketball court inside the hostel premises. ATM, grocery store, and medical shops are within walking distance from SHR.
All students who have registered for full-time courses in the institute have to live in the
hostel. The rules and regulations of the institute govern the hostels.
In the beginning, for at least six to eight months, as a fresher, you will live in double-occupancy rooms. This is to make sure that you and other fellow newcomers are not affected by homesickness and isolation.
IITs attract students from a broad variety of backgrounds from across the nation. It promotes cross-cultural relationships. This will help you to socialize and create a sense of security with others.
All the allotted rooms have a set of furniture and fittings in each room. They consist of a bed for each inmate as well as a table, chair, ceiling fan with a regulator, and light fitting.
From the second year onward, you will be able to live in separate rooms with single occupancy in the hostel. The basis for such an allotment is to encourage students to focus more on their studies.
Throughout your stay in the hostel, you are not allowed to exchange rooms or furniture and fittings with other students. To do so you should get an allowance from hall management.
The hall management consists of the warden, assistant warden/wardens, the council of wardens or hall councils, and hall managers.
IT Bhubaneswar has a residential campus and every student is required to stay in the hostel. Be it a B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D., or MSc student. Although a student is allowed to stay with his/her parents only in special circumstances if the Dean or Director allows. But it is necessary that your parents should reside inside the institute campus or within a reasonable distance from campus. In case a student is married he or she can apply to stay outside the campus.
IIT Bhubaneswar has two hostels one for girls and one for boys. SHR (Subarnrekha Hall of Residence) is the girl’s hostel and MHR (Mahanadi Hall of Residence) is the boy’s hostel. Two more hostels are being made. Both the hostels are very well built and have modern facilities as it is a newly built campus. Every student is given a single-seater room with a bed, a table chair, and a cupboard. Both the hostels also have gym and TV rooms. The LAN provides high-speed internet.
In IIT Bhubaneswar, presently the Mess is being run by Gauri Catering Services which is based in Kanpur.
If we talk about all the IIT Students, the price range starts from Rs.100.40/- per day which totals to Rs. 3012/- per month. Although, a one-time payment of Rs. 14000/- is to be paid initially when the semester begins and the remaining balance is further calculated at the end of the semester on the basis of the number of leaves taken by the students. This way, if there is any remaining balance left of the student, it will get adjusted in the next Mess Bill.
The mess price for outsiders, faculty, and staff are as follows:
Yes, hostels are provided to M.TECH students at IIT Bhubaneswar, Earlier, both these hostels were outside the main campus of IIT Bhubaneswar because the campus was still being constructed.
