IIT Gandhinagar: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 91 Reviews

The faculty at IIT Gandhinagar are highly qualified, with most holding PhDs from prestigious universities both in India and abroad. The faculty-to-student ratio varies, reported as 1:8, 1:10, and 1:30 in different contexts, indicating good availability and interaction opportunities. The faculty are known for their research orientation and industry experience, which aids in securing projects and internships globally.

However, there is a shortage of faculty for specific courses like architecture and compilers. The course structure includes two main exams per semester, along with quizzes and assignments, and grading often involves teaching assistants. The average faculty age is around 35-40 years, with most having over fifteen years of teaching experience.

Despite some courses lacking engagement, faculty members generally employ innovative teaching methods, integrating traditional and modern techniques to maintain student interest.

The faculty to student ratio is high in IITGn with 5:3. The relation is very friendly with the faculty with help to advise and all the time being approachable but except few being exception. The professor i liked the most are Prof. Rupak Banerjee, Prof Chandan K Mishra, Prof. Gopinadhan Kalon and Krista R Khiagnte for their friendly nature and understanding the concepts clear from basics root revision. The course stucture for each course is different depend on the professors , how they design dividing the grades with assignment, ppt, quizes, attendance but along with that there are two exams held per semester mid sem and end sem exam. and their weightage carrying in overall grade is also flexible on the professor.

IIT gandhinagar has a good number of facaulties. The faculty-to-student ration is 1:10. All the faculties are always available through email. You can also talk with them during meal time if you are lucky to find them or you can ask them for a meet over email. Personally I liked one of the english instructor, prof Desai he is very freindly and his advice has a practical effect. I also liked some of the math instuctors who are so passionate about their subject which induce the same passion inside their students. All facaulties are good as a person but some are more strict than others when academics are concerned. One of the course in the first year is Engineering Graphics which follow a strict marking policy, one of my batchmate got a negative number in one of the drawing. Another course I didn't liked is history, it was so boring and half of my class used to sleep during the class with their eye open because sleeping was prohibited in the class :).

Faculty:

The Faculty to student ratio is also good enough comparing to other IITs. The relationship between students and professors is just friendly but respectful. They are easily approachable as each professor has a fix office and you can reach them after appointment. I liked maximum faculties who taught us in till now or with whom I've been introduced till now. There's no facility till now whom I should dislike. Some course have quizzes, mid semester and end semester exams and some courses have projects and lab exams only. The difficulty level is medium as somebody studying in classes attentively can score good marks in exams.

Th faculty to student ratio is 1:30 which is good because faculty are very interactive and helps you in everything and in every possible manner. Bad thing is during lecture hours they expect that you already know everything.

Faculty:

The faculty-to-student ratio is quite good, but the batch strength is low. Also, the faculty at IIT Gandhinagar is very helpful and generous. All the faculty members are very approachable and would love to help you wherever you are stuck. You can either meet a professor by booking an appointment or just barge into his office during office hours (it generally depends on the professor). There is a two-exam system in IIT Gandhinagar (sem and end sem) with some quizzes in between class times (depending on the course policy). The faculty here are very interested in working with new students and are very motivated in their domain, so don't just ask them a project only because its a compulsory course.

That's why they offer less no. of electives subjects. the level of courses are moderate to hard And pass percentage is depend on the instructor. And in one sem we have two exams and no. of quizes and asignments depending upon instructor.

All Faculties are highly approachable for doubts, projects, advice, etc. You may meet them after a Lecture or take an appointment by Email. There are 2 Exams in one Semester: A mid-semester exam and an end-semester exam. There also may be quizzes or graded labs in a course. Very Few Students fail to clear the exams. IIT Gandhinagar: 3 Answered Questions

Who do you think is the worst professor at IIT Gandhinagar? Why?

Sabeer Chalana
Sabeer Chalana

There can’t be a single professor to blame but in general, the faculty of Electrical Engineering is not quite up to the mark.

Teaching:

  • Professors like Rajendran and Ravi Hegde are pretty much amateur at teaching.
  • Raghavan Sir's way of teaching is outdated. I heard from my friends that he does not complete 1/10th of the syllabus and his entire semester teaching can be summed up in just 5 pages.
  • Naran Sir skims through the slides and expects you to memorize the slides. He is also quite irregular in classes.
  • Professors like Nithin George and Uttama are decent in teaching but can’t match up to the IIT level.
  • The best one my friend experienced is Prof. Arup, who covers the syllabus beautifully and will make you understand the nuances of photonics. If you take up Research under him, it’ll be quite a good experience for you.

Most of the research work here isn’t single funded. They claim to conduct world-class research but don’t have a single journal paper for years. This is the reason why IIT Gandhinagar ranking had many pitfalls in previous years.

How is Chemical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar in terms of course, faculty, packages and placements?

Anisha SrivastavStudied at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IITGN)

Chemical Engineering has a broad scope outside India but is yet to make its mark here. The field is not developed here yet, the demand is low and so is the pay. If you are genuinely interested in this field and want to pursue a career in the same, universities in the USA and Germany provide excellent opportunities. To ensure the maximum utilization of the benefits of this field, we need qualified professionals.

Infrastructure: IIT Gandhinagar is well known for its infrastructure and facilities. The new hostel has excellent accommodation facilities with 90 Mbps speed wifi. The food served in the mess is decent and there are also 4 canteens that have got a 5-star rating from FSSAI. Students are provided with 24/7 medical facilities.

Faculty: Sparing a few assistant professors, the faculty is mostly dedicated, passionate, and very learned. They provided constant assistance to the students.

Course: All the courses have the same syllabus in the first year. The semester exams are no joke and can be quite challenging at times. You will get some free time post classes so prepare well and get a good CPI. The institute follows a relative grading system so the passing marks vary from teacher to teacher.

Placements: Out of 27 registered students this year, 16 got placed bringing the placement percentage to 52.26%. IIT Gandhinagar's average package of Chemical Engineering stood at INR 14.82 LPA while the median package stood at INR 14 LPA.

Overall, the chemical Engineering department of IIT Gandhinagar is very promising although the placements are still average and need to improve.
