The CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2027 is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for over 24 lakh students enrolled in CBSE-affiliated schools across India and abroad. For the 2027 cycle, CBSE continues the two-phase board exam system introduced in 2026 — Phase 1 (expected February–March 2027) is compulsory for all students and Phase 2 (expected May 2027) is an optional improvement attempt. Schools are currently in the active LOC (List of Candidates) submission window, with the last date without a late fee being October 21, 2026.

  • LOC Submission: Schools must submit the CBSE Class 10 2027 List of Candidates by October 21, 2026 without a late fee. Schools paying by challan must complete payment by today — October 17, 2026. A late fee of ₹2,000 per candidate applies from October 22 to October 30, 2026.
  • Date Sheet: The CBSE Class 10 2027 date sheet has not been released yet. Based on past cycles, it is expected between November and December 2026. In the 2026 cycle, the date sheet was released on October 30, 2025.
  • Practical / Internal Assessment Exams: School-based practical and internal assessment exams are expected to begin from January 1, 2027. These are conducted by schools before the main theory exams begin in February.

CBSE Class 10 2027: Two-Phase Exam System Explained

CBSE introduced the two-phase board exam system for Class 10 in the 2026 cycle, and this continues for the CBSE Class 10 2027 exams. Under this system, every Class 10 student sits for Phase 1 (the main board exam), and can optionally appear in Phase 2 to improve their score or clear a subject they did not pass. This change applies only to Class 10 — Class 12 continues with a single annual board exam.

Feature Phase 1 Phase 2
Mandatory / Optional Compulsory for all students Optional (improvement / re-attempt)
Expected Time February–March 2027 May 2027
Purpose Main annual board exam Improve score or pass a failed subject
Final Score Used Used if Phase 2 not attempted Better of Phase 1 and Phase 2 is counted
Subjects Covered All 5 main subjects Subjects attempted in Phase 1 (up to 5)
Applicable To Class 10 only Class 10 only

The key benefit of this system is that students get a second chance to improve their CBSE Class 10 2027 score without waiting an entire year. If you are not satisfied with your Phase 1 result in a subject, you can appear again in Phase 2. CBSE will print only the better of your two scores on the final marksheet.

Phase 2 is completely optional. You do not need to appear in Phase 2 if you are happy with your Phase 1 result. Phase 2 only benefits students who want to improve their marks or clear a subject they did not pass in Phase 1.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Registration: LOC Submission

Students do not register individually for the CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2027. The school registers all Class 10 students through a process called the LOC (List of Candidates) submission. Schools log in to the CBSE portal and submit the list of students who will appear for the 2027 board exams, along with subject choices and fee payment.

Once the LOC is confirmed, CBSE issues each student a confirmation slip. You must check your name, date of birth, subject combination, and school number carefully. Any errors must be corrected during the official correction window (November 2–4, 2026). CBSE does not allow corrections after this window closes, so act quickly if there is a mistake.

If your school has not yet submitted your name in the LOC, contact your school exam coordinator immediately. The last date without a late fee is October 21, 2026.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Eligibility Criteria

To appear for the CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2027, you must meet the following conditions set by CBSE:

  • School enrollment: You must be enrolled in a CBSE-affiliated school in Class 10 for the 2026–27 academic session.
  • Promotion from Class 9: You must have been promoted from Class 9 to Class 10 in a CBSE school. Students from state board schools are not eligible as regular CBSE candidates.
  • Minimum attendance: You must have attended at least 75% of school days in the 2026–27 academic year. A school principal may grant attendance exemption in special cases such as prolonged illness or family emergency, at their discretion.
  • Subject registration: You must be registered for at least five subjects via the LOC submission. Maths students must choose between Standard Maths and Basic Maths at the time of registration — this choice cannot be changed later.
  • Age: There is no minimum or maximum age restriction for regular Class 10 CBSE students.

Private Candidates for CBSE Class 10 2027

Students who are not enrolled in a regular CBSE school can appear for the Class 10 exam as private candidates through CBSE-designated Patrachar Vidyalayas. CBSE does not allow individual private candidate registration for Class 10 outside this route. Private candidates must apply through their Patrachar centre well before the LOC deadline.

Students who previously passed Class 10 and want to improve their score can use the Phase 2 optional exam in 2027, or apply through their former school as an improvement candidate.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Admit Card (Hall Ticket)

The CBSE Class 10 2027 admit card — also called the hall ticket — is a mandatory document that you must carry to the exam centre on every exam day. You will not be allowed to enter the examination hall without a valid admit card.

When Will CBSE Class 10 2027 Admit Card Be Released?

The CBSE Class 10 2027 admit card has not been released yet. Based on the 2026 cycle, CBSE typically sends admit cards to schools in the first two weeks of February, about 2–3 weeks before Phase 1 exams begin. Schools hand admit cards directly to students — there is no option to download the admit card individually from any website.

  • Expected release: First two weeks of February 2027
  • Previous cycle: In 2026, admit cards were distributed by schools in the first week of February 2026
  • How to get it: Your school will give you the admit card directly. It is not available for individual online download
  • What it contains: Your name, roll number, school number, exam centre name and address, subject codes, and full exam schedule

Documents to Carry to the Exam Hall

  • CBSE Class 10 2027 admit card (mandatory)
  • A valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card is accepted)
  • School ID card (some exam centres may require it)

When you receive your admit card from school, check all details carefully — especially your name, roll number, and exam centre address. Report any discrepancy to your school immediately. Corrections cannot be made on exam day.

CBSE does not issue admit cards directly to students. Avoid any third-party website claiming to offer CBSE Class 10 admit card downloads. Your school is the only authorised source for your hall ticket.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Exam Pattern

The CBSE Class 10 2027 exam pattern follows an 80+20 structure — 80 marks from the board theory exam and 20 marks from internal assessment or practicals conducted by the school. Together, they add up to 100 marks per subject.

CBSE Class 10 2027: Subject-wise Marks Distribution

Subject Theory (Board Exam) Internal Assessment / Practical Total
Language 1 (Hindi Course A / Course B or Regional Language) 80 20 100
Language 2 (English Language & Literature / Communicative) 80 20 100
Mathematics Standard / Mathematics Basic 80 20 100
Science 80 20 (Practical) 100
Social Science 80 20 100
Optional 6th Subject (e.g. Computer Science, AI, Sanskrit, Home Science) Varies by subject Varies by subject 100

CBSE Class 10 2027: Question Type Breakdown (80-Mark Theory Paper)

The 80-mark theory paper for most CBSE Class 10 2027 subjects includes multiple question types. Around 40% of the paper is competency-based — questions that test whether you can apply concepts, not just recall them.

Question Type Marks per Question Approximate Weightage
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) — including case-based MCQs 1 mark each ~20 marks
Very Short Answer (VSA) 2 marks each ~12 marks
Short Answer (SA) 3 marks each ~21 marks
Long Answer (LA) 5 marks each ~15 marks
Case-based / Source-based Questions 4 marks each ~12 marks

The exact number of questions and distribution varies slightly by subject. CBSE releases official sample question papers for each subject on cbseacademic.nic.in. Solving these sample papers is one of the best ways to understand the CBSE Class 10 2027 paper structure for each subject.

CBSE Class 10 2027: Internal Assessment Breakdown (20 Marks)

The 20 marks for internal assessment are awarded by your school throughout the academic year. The standard breakdown for most subjects is:

  • Periodic Tests (PT): 10 marks — average of best performance across tests conducted by the school
  • Multiple Assessment: 5 marks — quizzes, oral tests, activities, group work
  • Portfolio: 5 marks — written assignments, projects, creative submissions

For Science, the 20 marks are awarded through school-conducted practical lab work. Students are evaluated on their ability to perform experiments and handle lab equipment during practical sessions throughout the year.

Maths has two versions — Standard Maths and Basic Maths. Standard Maths is for students who plan to study Maths in Class 11 and 12. Basic Maths is for students who do not intend to continue with Maths at the higher secondary level. You must choose at the time of LOC submission — the choice cannot be changed later.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Syllabus

The CBSE Class 10 2027 syllabus continues with the rationalised version that reduces the load by approximately 30% compared to the full NCERT textbook content. This reduction has been in place for several sessions and continues into 2026–27. The full official subject-wise syllabus is available on cbseacademic.nic.in. Below is a subject-by-subject overview.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Result

The CBSE Class 10 2027 result for Phase 1 is expected to be declared in May or June 2027, roughly 6–8 weeks after the last Phase 1 theory exam concludes. In 2026, CBSE declared the result on April 15, 2026 — about five weeks after the Phase 1 exams ended on March 11, 2026.

How to Check CBSE Class 10 2027 Result

Once declared, you can check your CBSE Class 10 2027 result through these official platforms:

You need your roll number and school number — both printed on your admit card — to access the result. Keep your admit card safe until after the result is declared and you have downloaded your marksheet.

CBSE Class 10 2026 Result: Key Statistics

The CBSE Class 10 2026 result was strong, with an overall pass percentage of 93.70% — a slight increase from 93.66% in 2025.

Statistic 2026 Data

Top School Types Kendriya Vidyalaya (99.57%), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (99.42%)

CBSE Class 10 2027 Grading System

CBSE uses a 9-point grading scale for Class 10. Marks are converted into letter grades, and overall performance is expressed as a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). The CGPA is the average grade point across your best five subjects and is what appears on your CBSE Class 10 marksheet.

Grade Mark Range (Out of 100) Grade Point
A1 91–100 10.0
A2 81–90 9.0
B1 71–80 8.0
B2 61–70 7.0
C1 51–60 6.0
C2 41–50 5.0
D 33–40 4.0
E1 (Fail) 21–32 —
E2 (Fail) 0–20 —

Grades E1 and E2 are fail grades. A student who scores in the E1 or E2 range in any subject has not cleared that subject and will be placed in the compartment category if it is one or two subjects, or marked as essential repeat if it is three or more subjects.

How to Calculate CGPA and Percentage from CBSE Class 10 Marks

To calculate your CGPA, add the grade points of your best five subjects and divide by 5.

Example: Grades of A1 (10), A2 (9), B1 (8), B2 (7), C1 (6) across five subjects:
CGPA = (10 + 9 + 8 + 7 + 6) ÷ 5 = 8.0

To convert CGPA to an approximate percentage, multiply by 9.5.
Example: CGPA 8.0 × 9.5 = 76% (approximate)

If you appear in six subjects, only the best five count toward the CGPA. The 6th subject is shown as an additional subject on your marksheet and does not affect your main CGPA.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Passing Criteria

CBSE confirmed on October 3, 2026 that the CBSE Class 10 2027 passing criteria remain unchanged from the previous year. You need at least 33 out of 100 marks in each subject — as a combined total of theory exam marks and internal assessment marks.

CBSE had earlier discussed making the rule stricter by requiring students to pass the theory paper and internal assessment separately. This proposal was withdrawn for 2027. The single combined 33% threshold per subject continues.

  • Minimum to pass each subject: 33 out of 100 (combined theory + internal assessment)
  • Best-of-five rule: If you appear in 6 subjects, only your best 5 scores count toward CGPA
  • One or two fails after Phase 1: You can attempt Phase 2 (May 2027) or the Compartment Exam (July–August 2027)
  • Three or more fails after Phase 1: You must repeat Class 10 in the next academic year

You must pass all five main subjects to receive your CBSE Class 10 certificate and move to Class 11. Failing even one subject after both Phase 1 and the compartment exam means you cannot proceed to Class 11 that year.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Compartment Exam

Students who fail in one or two subjects in the CBSE Class 10 2027 Phase 1 exam are placed in the compartment category. CBSE provides them another attempt through the Compartment Exam, expected in July–August 2027.

Compartment Exam Eligibility

  • Eligible: Students who fail in 1 or 2 subjects in Phase 1
  • Not eligible: Students who fail in 3 or more subjects — they must repeat Class 10
  • Compartment exam (expected): July–August 2027

From 2026, the two-phase system gives students an additional route before compartment. If you fail a subject in Phase 1, you can try again in the Phase 2 optional exam (May 2027). CBSE uses the better Phase 1 or Phase 2 score. Only students who still have one or two fails after Phase 2 need the compartment exam.

In 2026, around 1.47 lakh students were placed in the compartment category out of 24.71 lakh students who appeared — about 5.95% of the total. The two-phase system is expected to reduce this number for 2027, since more students can clear subjects in Phase 2 before compartment applies.

CBSE Class 10 Year-wise Pass Percentage

The CBSE Class 10 pass percentage has stayed consistently above 90% for several consecutive years. Girls have outperformed boys every year. Here is the year-wise trend:

Year Students Appeared Pass Percentage Girls Pass % Boys Pass %
2026 24,71,777 93.70% 94.99% 92.63%
2025 ~23.5 lakh 93.66% ~94.5% ~92.4%
2024 ~23 lakh 93.60% ~94.3% ~92.1%
2023 ~22 lakh 93.12% ~93.7% ~91.8%

The top-performing CBSE regions consistently include Trivandrum, Vijayawada, and Chennai, all recording pass rates above 99%. Among school types, Kendriya Vidyalayas (99.57%) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (99.42%) regularly achieve the highest pass rates in the country.

The introduction of the two-phase exam system is expected to push the 2027 overall pass percentage higher than 2026, since students now get a second attempt within the same academic year before the compartment route becomes necessary.

CBSE Class 10 2027 Preparation Tips

With the CBSE Class 10 Phase 1 theory exams expected from February 2027, you have about four months from October 2026 to build and complete your preparation. Used well, this time is more than enough to cover the full syllabus and practise thoroughly.

General Strategy for CBSE Class 10 2027

  • Study only from the reduced syllabus: Do not waste time on chapters CBSE has removed from the 2026–27 syllabus. Download the official subject-wise syllabus from cbseacademic.nic.in and mark out what is and is not in scope before you start.
  • NCERT textbooks are your core resource: The CBSE Class 10 2027 exam is largely NCERT-based. Solve all NCERT in-text questions and exercises for every chapter in scope. Questions from NCERT examples appear directly in board papers.
  • Solve CBSE official sample papers: CBSE releases sample question papers for every subject on cbseacademic.nic.in. Solve at least 3–4 sample papers per subject under timed conditions. This builds paper familiarity and time management skills.
  • Practise previous year papers: Go through CBSE Class 10 question papers from the last five years. You will spot recurring question types and high-weightage topics that appear year after year.
  • Build competency-based skills: About 40% of the paper is competency-based. Practise data interpretation, case study questions, and application problems — not just standard textbook exercises.

Subject-wise Tips for CBSE Class 10 2027

  • Mathematics: Practise every day — at least one to two hours. Focus on Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry, which carry the most marks. Solve all NCERT exercises for the chapters in scope. For Standard Maths, also practise problem-solving beyond NCERT.
  • Science: Make chapter-wise notes that combine Physics, Chemistry, and Biology points. Diagrams are critical — practise drawing and labelling ray diagrams, circuit diagrams, and biological diagrams. Your practical marks count, so take lab sessions seriously.
  • Social Science: Build timelines for History, practise map-based questions for Geography, and memorise key terms for Civics and Economics. Use NCERT chapter headings as your preparation checklist. Regular short revision sessions work better than long one-off sittings for this subject.
  • English: Practise reading unseen passages daily to build speed and comprehension. Focus grammar revision only on the items listed in the official 2026–27 CBSE syllabus. Revise all First Flight and Footprints Without Feet chapters that are in scope.
  • Hindi: Read all prescribed poems and prose from the textbook at least twice. Practise grammar exercises regularly. Write long-form compositions (nibandh, patra, sandesh) frequently to build both speed and quality in the writing section.

Maximise Internal Assessment Marks

The 20 internal assessment marks can make a real difference to your final total. To make the most of them:

  • Perform well in all Periodic Tests conducted by your school throughout the year — these carry 10 marks
  • Submit all portfolio assignments and project work on time
  • Participate actively in quizzes and oral activities that your school counts toward the Multiple Assessment component
  • For Science, treat every lab session seriously — your practical score is based on how you perform in these sessions during the year

Ans. If you fail one or two subjects in Phase 1, you have two options. First, appear in the Phase 2 optional exam (expected May 2027) — CBSE uses the better of the two scores. Second, if you still need another attempt, you can appear in the Compartment Exam (expected July–August 2027). If you fail three or more subjects in Phase 1, you must repeat Class 10 in the next academic year.
