CBSE Class 10 Grading System 2024 is based on five-cum-nine-point scale, in which students are awarded grades from A to E. You need a grade higher than ‘E’ to pass a subject.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • This year, there will be no overall marks or distinction on the marksheet.
  • You can calculate your percentage by dividing the total of all your marks by aggregate marks and multiplying the result by 100.
  • CBSE Class 10 Result date is expected to be after May 20, 2024.

As per CBSE Class 10 Grading System, Grade A is the highest, and Grade E is the lowest. Students securing an E grade will be placed in the compartment exam category. The final CGPA of the student is calculated using the grades awarded in the main 5 subjects.

In CBSE Class 10 Result, CGPA is calculated by using the following formula:

CGPA = Sum of Grade Points Obtained in 5 Main Subjects / 5

Apart from not providing overall distinction on the marksheet, CBSE will also not release CBSE Class 10 Toppers List in 2024. The overall and gender-wise pass percentage, however, along with other result statistics will be released at cbse.gov.in.

CBSE Class 10 CGPA to Percentage Calculator

CBSE Class 10 CGPA to Percentage Calculator

Students can calculate their percentage of marks obtained in CBSE Class 10 Exams from their CGPA by using the below formula:

Subject-wise Percentage = Grade Point (GP) obtained by the Student x 9.5

The overall percentage of marks can be calculated as:

Overall Percentage = 9.5 x CGPA

For instance, if your CGPA is 8.5, the corresponding percentage would be,

8.5 x 9.5 = 80.75%

Suppose a student secures the following grade points in the five main subjects:

CBSE Board Subjects Grade Points
Subject 1 8
Subject 2 8
Subject 3 7
Subject 4 9
Subject 5 7
Total 39

Now, to calculate the CGPA, follow these steps:

Add the grade points i.e., 8 + 8 + 7 + 9 + 7 = 39

Divide the sum of grade points by 5 i.e., 39/5 = 7.8

Hence, CGPA obtained is 7.8.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the CBSE Class 10 Grading System?

Ans. CBSE Class 10 Grading System is an evaluation method introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for assessing students' performance. It replaces the traditional numerical scoring system with a nine-point grading scale, where students are assigned grades from A to E.

Ques. How does the CBSE Class 10 Grading System work?

Ans. Under the CBSE Class 10 Grading System, students' grades are awarded based on their relative performance in the exams. The Board ranks all the passed students and divides them into eight equal segments. Each segment corresponds to a specific grade, starting from A-1 (top 1/8th of passed candidates) to D-2 (next 1/8th of passed candidates). Students who fail to qualify receive an E grade.

Ques. What is the purpose of implementing the grading system?

Ans. The main objective of the CBSE Class 10 Grading System is to reduce the stress and pressure on students caused by the traditional exam-oriented approach. By focusing on continuous evaluation and eliminating pass/fail marks, the system aims to provide a more holistic and relaxed learning environment for students.

Ques. Are there any variations in grading for tied scores?

Ans. Yes, in case of a tie, all students achieving the same score will be assigned the same grade. If the number of students at a particular score point needs to be divided into two segments, the smaller segment will be merged with the larger to maintain fairness.

Ques. Which subjects follow the CBSE Class 10 Grading System?

Ans. The CBSE Class 10 Grading System is applied in subjects where the number of students who have passed exceeds 500. For subjects with less than 500 passing candidates, the grading will be based on similar subjects' grading and distribution patterns.

Ques. How will the grading system benefit students?

Ans. The new grading system encourages continuous evaluation through smaller assessments throughout the year, promoting a deeper understanding of subjects. It also focuses on overall scholastic achievements rather than just numerical scores, allowing students to pursue learning with reduced exam-related stress.

Ques. Will the grading system be implemented for all CBSE schools?

Ans. Yes, CBSE Class 10 Grading System is standardized and applies to all schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Ques. Can students improve their grades through re-evaluation or re-examination?

Ans. CBSE provides provisions for re-evaluation and re-examination for students who are not satisfied with their grades. They can apply for these processes as per the Board's guidelines.

Ques. How can parents and students track their performance under CBSE new grading system?

Ans. CBSE schools provide report cards that include the grades obtained by students in each subject. Parents and students can use these report cards to monitor their academic progress throughout the academic year.
