IIT Bhilai PhD admission 2024 is open and the last date to apply for admission is April 30, 2024. Shortlisting for PhD Admission is done on the basis of an entrance exam conducted by the institute followed by a PI round. However, candidates having valid scores in GATE/ CEED/ UGC/ CSIR exams are exempted from the written test, such candidates can directly appear for the interview. IIT Bhilai offers a PhD program for a duration of 3 years across 10 different specialisations. The institute offers the PhD course for categories like Institute Fellowshp, Sponsored Full-time and Part-time, and External Full-time, and Part-time. To be eligible, candidates should have a Master's degree or a Bachelor’s degree with 60% marks in any relevant discipline, and also valid GATE/ GPAT scores are considered. Selection: Applicants who meet all the eligibility criteria are called for a written test and an interview. Based on the performance in the overall academic, test, and interview, candidates are selected for the PhD program at IIT Bhilai. Institute Fellowship- Candidates admitted under the category of Institute Fellowship have to be full-time scholars at IIT Bhilai and are required to be present on the campus during the PhD program course. Also, students enrolled in this category will receive an institute fellowship as per the norms by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.

Sponsored Full-time- For the sponsored full-time category admission, students must be an awardee from CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR, etc. or DST INSPIRE Fellowship. The aspirants can also be sponsored by their employer for the duration of their PhD tenure. Candidates are required to be present on the campus during the PhD duration and need to be involved in full-time research.

Sponsored Part-time- Candidates who are professionally engaged in work such as teaching, researching, or working engineering, and attend regular classes of the PhD program can apply for the sponsored part-time PhD course. The applicants are required to be employees of a recognized organisation.

External Full-time and Part-Time- An applicant working in an industry / academic establishment/ research laboratory having R&D facilities can apply under the external full-time and part-time category. However, an external full-time candidate is required to be involved in full-time research at the organisation employing the students. On the other hand, an external part-time student must be involved in his/her regular job assignments along with the PhD research.

IIT Bhilai PhD Stipend

IIT Bhilai offers stipends to students who are residents of the campus for that semester. The institute pays a fellowship for 3 years and continues for another year with a recommendation from the department. Students who are not residents of the campus are not paid the fellowship. IIT Bhilai offers a stipend/ fellowship to students who devote 8 hours per week in academic and administrative work (other than the research and coursework) assigned to them.
