Course Curriculum Overview :
I choose the Computer Science course because I had an inclination towards programming since an early age . I enjoy solving hard problems and hence found computer science and engineering course fo be a good fit for my interests. We have about 330 total students in first year and 70 students in the CSE course we are divided into 5 groups for each lab with 4 Teaching Assistants assigned to each course . I find the faculty quite good and they try their best to answer the maximum doubts. A few of the faculty include MTech and PHD scholars who help us out in understanding the course. The faculties are well qualified to teach the course subject. The term exams that we had included a mid semester exam that occurs at about 1.5 months after the start of the course and an endsemester exams that happens at the end of 3 months . The exams are moderate to hard but all the concepts have been made clear during the semester so it isn't hard to pass the exams.
Internships Opportunities :
Google, Microsoft, Flipkart , YUM and many mor exompanies have appeared in the past for internships hiring with stipends according to the market rate. The roles they appeared for include software engineer intern and data science intern etc .
Placement Experience :
Students can sit for placements at the start of the fourth year or the seventh semester. Zomato, Walmart, Honeywell and BNY are few co.panies that have maded offers in the past. Highest packages have been 60 LPA and average is 21. I am hoping to take up a job for few years and then pursue higher studies.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees at IIT Mandi is comparable to other IITs . It is relatively low than fees of other private colleges .The total fees comes around 1.2 lakhs including the tution fees , hostel and mess charges The institute also provides exemptions for low income family students , SC/ST and females. One of the scholarships offered is Merit Cum Means (MCM) scholarship for general/obc students .There are special scholarships provided to those who perform exceptionally in academics and belong to a reserved class . For OBC students the scholarship is limited to top 25 percent of each branch . For furst year students the criterion for scholarship is the JEE advanced rank. They are a few on campus jobs that provude money like there is a paying job at the institute library called book nook to register all those who have issued a book.
Campus Life :
The campus life at IIT Mandi is very lively . A advantage of being surrounded by mountains is the immense natural beauty to enjoy and the peaceful environment surrounding it . Being away from city life is like a breath of fresh air . There are regular fests that happen in our college and occur on varying themes . We had Ruvaan literary fest in march and Astrax our astronomy fest in april. We even had Xpecto our technical fest in may . The central library has all the course related books to enhance ones grasp on the subject. There is also a novels and stories library called book nook that include works by various authors. The classrooms are fully ventilated and cool enough and we have three projector screens in our class to ensure everyone can see the board. There are may sports facilities on campus . We have a table tennis and foosball table in each hostel. We also have an indoor badminton court and squatch court. We also have a swimming pool and basketball court in north campus
Hostel Facilities :
The rooms have proper lighting and ventilation and the cupboards provided in the room is good enough for all the baggage to fit in. We have a big enough table for each student. They are single , double and triple sharing bedrooms. They are mosquito nets covering the windows to ensure insects don't enter the room. The meals offered are fine and there is variety each day . Non Veg is served occasionally and on weekends when chicken biryani is served. They are panner and potato curries offered on weekdays and rice or rotis. There is also an endo of the month special dinner. The hostel rooms are alloted or can be booked on the OAS student portal and there are options for swapping rooms . The cost of hostel is affordable and is about 6500 rupees. The rooms on each floor have first year and secind year students and each hostel mostly have students of same branch.
Admission :
The eligibility criteria required to get CSE in IIT Mandi was that the aspirant must have qualified for the JEE Advanced examination which is done by clearing the cutoff of the JEE mains examination . In case the aspirant is a male belonging to general category he must have secured a rank of 2K to 3K to obtain the CSE course. The application process for the IITs , NITS and other colleges are conducted by JOSAA after the Advanced examination. The college and course is alloted based on the preference order and rank which an individual obtained . The application fees through JOSAA is about 33K rupees. In case an individual belongs to a category the reserved seats are then alloted according to the rank and preference of the person among the category list. There is also a fee concession in case the annual income is less than 5 lakhs. I observe that many of the seats are vacated after the final round of JOSAA due to which few candidates miss out on getting admission.
