The Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry is situated in the famous district of Solan in the Himachal Pradesh area. It can be accessed through the use of bus and tram services and one can also use train and taxi services in order to reach university on time.

The university came into existence in the year 1985.
It is primarily devoted to the study of forestry sciences and is named after YS Parmar who was one of the famous architects of modern India.
The curriculum of study offered at the university is one that is fairly advanced and the faculty members at the university are known to be highly proficient in the subjects that they teach.
The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission of India as a centre with the potential for excellence.

Facilities:

Hostel: The university is known to boast of fine hostels where out of stations can put up for accommodation. There are as many as 10 hostels that are run by the university. Out of these 5 of the hostels are meant for girls, 4 hostels are meant for boys and one hostel is meant exclusively for international students.

Placement Cell: The university runs a placement cell that is visited often by students who are on the verge of graduation. The placement cell offers career guidance and counselling and also arranges for job interviews to be taken place on the university campus.

College is in very peacefull area , everything around is so beautiful as it's a horticulture and forestry University,we have lots of field area for practice and learning
The staff is very helping in nature and all Highly qualified
The labs are fully equipped and lab attendants provide us knowledge about every single aspect of experiment

Dislikes

The syllabus is not designed according to competitive exams which I'm going to give after my graduation
My course is not ICAR affiliated which is on process but for now it's not available
No any provision for placement as it lacks placement cell and offcourse campus placement is not an option

Students view on course curriculum

The curriculum is designed to cover every aspect say bioinformatics, basics of plant breeding, biotechnology, immunology, cell biology , pathology, entomology, soil science , molecular markers, plant tissue culture but some part is missing i.e industrial biotechnology As it's a very important part of GATE exam

Fees of the course per semester and scholarship available in the college

My course has a nominal fees, a normal middle class person can afford it My fees is 28,720 per semester but it has increased for students of 2024-2025 it has reached to 32,980 approx but it doesn't increase every year Once increased it doesn't increase every year College provided scholarship to the students performing well every semester NSP scholarships can be filled to avail more assistance No any campus employment opportunities are applied

Events, clubs and facilities available in the campus

Aagahz - May Aarambh - September Teacher's day Holi Ganesh visarjan Krishna Janmashtami etc. Are celebrated every year Sr. Satyanand stokes library is full of books you can find every possible book you can think of Every classroom is provided with smartboard , AC, smart lecture stand , furnished benches Sports are available like football, cricket,table tennis, volleyball etc. NCC, NSS are also available Social clubs like photography,music,sports,art, dance, environment club etc.

Good rooms with balcony A fan Light Bed and almirah Washroom and bathrooms at every floor Mess Common room Study room Meal quality is average Menu is changed every week according to choice Registration form is filled Then candidates are selected according to category criteria and then marks Hostel is within campus which is better than renting PG as it is far away from campus

Every faculty member is selected after an interview which is conducted in front of committee Every position has different eligibility criteria If a teacher is selected for a subject which has to be taught to students,then the eligibility is PHD holder For a lab attendants bachelor's degree is a must Every 40 students have 1 teacher for a class If we've any doubt we can go and ask to the teacher directly They're available everytime During labs they make every possible approach to make it understandable for us I'm in second year some of the experiments are not performed by us but every approach is made to help us to understand

Eligibility criteria to get admission in the college

You must have 60% marks in class 12 for bachelors or 6 GPA for masters programme Application form are available at their own site www.yspuniversity.com Application form fees for normal seat is 1500 but for self financed is 2500 for general category But reservation benefits are availed for SC/ST and OBC category Exam difficulty is 7/10 Fees submission is trickiest part that should be improved

Admission:

This college was my first preference because of it's reputation and populatrity in country .I chose this college because some of my friends were studying in this college and they gave me positive reviews about this college making it my preference over other college. I didn't get rejections from any colleges, I just wanted to get in this college. The admission process is pretty simple . The university conducts a college level exam for admission . The students who clear the exam get normal seats and there are also self financing seats which are based on +2 marks . The fee structure of self financing seats is more than normal seat

To be honest this was a well know university in my state which my family had already known about hence it peeked my interest as well . On the scale of comparison with other colleges mine stands at 151st at NIRF rank overall and 18th in terms of agricultural university.

The university also provide facility like gymnasium,laundry and a open air theater.
The college is in the lap of low hills of Himalayas, located in the mushroom city of India .This infrastructure of the university is very good .

First and best thing is the climate of the place the greenery free from pollution and isolation is the best aspect of the place fees charges are also very nominal if one could manage to get into normal seat that will be very easy for him in expenses

I choose this college as my last option I got rejected from NEET thatswhy this college is my last option as i had already taken one drop for my NEET preparation College takes admission on two basis one written exam and other through 12th merit base directly without examination or for those who failed to qualify written exam but scored good in 12th Written exam is of 100 marks and cutoff for general lies in between 65-67 and Reserved category 53-54

Form is available during may to june with exam mostly for ug in between 15 of june to july 1st week of july and for pg mostly between 25 of june to 2nd week of July depending upon the situation. Seats are reserved of outer state candidates or non HP candidates but with only self financing option with 10000 extra fees compared to hp candidate. Exam will be basic and will be mentioned in the brochure or can be available on various sites

A Comprehensive Review of Horticulture and Forestry University

University enviroment is very good, they offer a wide range of unergraduate and postgraduate programs tailored to suit various interest

Dislikes

University infrastructure is not upto the point, equipments in the laboratories are not very good and can be improved for good research experience

in my scenario the eligibility criteria for the course was 12th marks and also the entrance test conducted by university itself prospectus of the university is available on the university site where you can find the detailed informations regarding the fees, form, dates etc. there is also a reservation benefits in application fees and admission fees also around 2.5 hrs of entrance test is there as a objective one and the difficulty level is moderate
