Class 6 Maths Chapter 14 Practical Geometry: Important Topics

The important topics of class 6 maths chapter 14 include the following:

  • Construction of Circle – A circle of a given radius can be constructed with a ruler and compass. The steps for its construction are given below:
  1. Measure and open the compass according to the given radius.
  2. Mark a point and name it as O. It will be the centre of the circle.
  3. Place the pointer of the compass on O and turn the compass slowly around the point.
  • Construction of Line Segment – The steps for construction of a line segment of a given length are as follows:
  1. Draw a line of any length (longer than the given length) and mark a point P on it.
  2. Now, open the compass upto the measure of given length with the help of a ruler.
  3. Place the pointer of the open compass on point P and draw an arc of the length measured. Name that point as Q.
  4. PQ is the line segment of the given length.
  1. Mark a point P on a line l.
  2. Placing pointer of the compass at P, construct an arc that intersects the line l at two points, say A and B.
  3. Open the compass more than half of the line and construct two arcs, each from A and B. The arcs will have a point of intersection, say Q.
  4. Join PQ. PQ is perpendicular to the line l.
  • Construction of Angles – Angles of a given measure can be constructed with the help of ruler, compass and protractor. The steps are given below:
  1. Draw a line of any length, say PQ.
  2. Place the protractor on the line PQ such that its centre is placed on the point P.
  3. Now mark the angle of the given measure and name this marked point, say R.
  4. Join PR. ∠QPR is the required angle.
