NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Maths Chapter 1 are given in this article. Knowing Our Numbers is an important chapter of Class 10 Maths. The main topics of the chapter include –

Comparing numbers: When the total number of digits is different, the number having the most number of digits is the largest number and the number with the least number of digits is considered the smallest number.
| Example: Consider numbers: 22, 123, 4, 345, 2938. The largest number is 2938 (4 digits) and the smallest number is 4 (only 1 digit) |

When the total number of digits is same, the number having the highest leftmost digit is considered the largest number. If that digit is also the same, we consider the next leftmost digit and so on.
| Example: 340, 347, 578, 290, 255. The largest number is 578 (the leftmost digit is 5) and the smallest number is 255 (on comparing 255 and 290, 5 is less than 9). |
- Ascending Order: The numbers are arranged from the smallest to the greatest.
| Example: Consider a group of numbers: 34, 10, 92, 422, and 9999. They can be arranged in the ascending order as 10, 34, 92, 422, 9999 |
- Descending Order: The numbers are arranged from the greatest to the smallest number.
| Example: Consider a group of numbers: 34, 10, 92, 422, and 9999. They can be arranged in the ascending order as 9999, 422, 92, 34, 10 |
- Place Value: Each place in a given number, has a value of 10 times the place to its right.
| Example: Consider number 769. (i) Place value of 7 = 700 (ii) Place value of 6 = 60 (iii) Place value of 9 = 9 |
