I have seen many students prefer JU to new IITs because of the experience and legacy it holds in contrast to recently established IITs. None of these students regret their decision of choosing JU over IIT. JU has the upper hand in terms of both placements and the quality of research work here. In fact, top NITs, BITS, JU, DTU, NSIT, IIITs, and such institutes are all better options than most of the newer IITs. These institutes have good credibility owing to their strong alumni network thus providing better opportunities. Those who prefer to stay on the safe side give more preference to these institutes than newer IITs. The new IITs are expected to reach heights in the future and only then will you be able to benefit from their IIT tag. As of now, they lack credibility and opportunities. Any college can be good for competitive programming. It all relies on you to educate yourself, to learn new strategies, and to spend hours coding. Anudeep Nekkanti is one such example. He was recruited by Google and qualified for ACM ICPC world finals. If you look at the name of his college, its not one of those elite ones. There was no competitive programming pattern in BESU/IIEST until recently. But many students have taken competitive programming platforms such as Codechef and HackerRank over the last few years. You can search the Codechef Rating System site to verify it for yourself. You get a college-wise database of the number of students actively engaged in competitive coding and their results using this platform. Lastly, dont support the myth that the only way to prove yourself as a coder is competitive programming. There are other coding fields as well. In this sense, do not consider that there was no "real coder" in IIEST because there was no competitive coding pattern previously in IIEST (BESU back then). Some of the alumni of the institute are working in top companies in India and overseas and have never been interested in competitive coding.

Campus life in JU

The faculty and professors are very helpful, they teach very efficiently helping the students grow.
The campus life, though politics goes on, the greenery, the playgrounds and different courts along with 7-8 canteens which are very affordable

A lousy government system for every minor inconvenience outside the dept. the offices are more focused on the timings and sometimes are not regular

I have loved this subject history since my earlier days, and as I applied for this course which is very lengthy ofcourse and after studying it realising it is very hard to continue it till phd. But mostly I chose this because this subject will be very beneficial for me in the long run for the different civil services exam. The exams system is quite flexible, the pattern and timing depends on the dept and for to e difficulty level the professor try to set the questions covering all of the topics in a direct manner.

In context of English the classes are interactive you can approch people with your interpretations

The subject i opted for is english literature. As someone from. Science background in my higher secondary i naturally found it difficult, as i wasn't aware of most of the history but the teaches and my fellow students were more than happy to help me.

The Dream of JU

Seminars and International Exposure : It's common to have international seminars with professors coming from all over the world every month.
Professors : Our professors are extremely knowledgeable and all of them come from very elite and diverse academic backgrounds. We have profs from Oxford and Cambridge University.

Infrastructure is inadequate due to the lack of funding, not all classrooms are air conditioned so sometimes it is hard to attend classes in the summer.
Due to the sheer size of the university communication is sometimes an issue. Oke needs to coordinate with the HoD, Dean and VC for all concerns which can get tiresome sometimes.

Mich better compared to contemporary colleges. This course actually imparts relevant skills such as creative writing, quick comprehension which I believe is lacking in a lot of colleges. Exams are moderate to hard and focuses on the creative side. Memorization based questions are not to be expected and one has to think out side the box in order to score good marks.

Most of the professors are really student friendly and exceptionally good. Their way of teaching is really interesting.
If you're facing any problem, you can contact your professors or the authority and they'll be there for you.

The Hostel is worst I would say, the warden and the mess committee won't help you if you're facing any kind of problem, instead they'll harras you more.

This course helps us to understand the society in depth. Past incidents and their impacts makes us realise how to deal with those kind of problems. In the first four semesters we had minor subjects along with major papers. We have two internal exams per paper and these internal exams are taken like class tests. On the other hand we have two semesters per year. Once we understand the topics the questions seems really easy. All the questions are analytical.

I liked the university campus, it's soothing I go everyday for a walk, I like the nature of the campus so much .
The teachers of my class are really helpful and very kind to the students but few teachers aren't not that good.... Anyway they teach in a good manner

I don't think I disliked the college that much... But students the classmates I found them a little over and really into themselves they rarely talk to others and are really egoistic
Politics is good I support that but few students forced the newly admitted students to join politics which is not right...If someone really wants to join they will join by their will

I first wanted to take admission in international department but later I got in comparative literature...the subject was really so new to me but I have enjoyed reading some topics I have in my syllabus...the subject doesn't have that much connection with the real world but I hope the syllabus get changed and add some topics that are really interesting and connect with the real world... The students get 2 hours for 30 marks questions we for now don't feel any difficulties to write on the time so it is enough for us

The high society meetings, movements, protests can not reach out to the lower strata students in the university

Everything is good. Before CBCS was started there was no concept of pass paper in Jadavpur University. Each semester students can choose their elective paper. So if a student chooses different subjects in his 4 semesters then he will not get any pass paper certificate that willl entitle him about some specific subject

Almost everything- the campus life is amazing placement is available in the engineering section. Infrastructure is alsoo great more or less.
Various clubs are there and they are very active. There are so many events that take take place. The campus is huge.

Political reasons lead to a lot of problems in the campus. That's the only thing I dislike about it.

I chose the subject as I was interested in learning history. The faculty members are all eminent scholars and hold PHD.degree and the quality of teaching is great. Every sem has various number of papers. For each core paper you have 2 internals of 10marks each and 30marks for sem. Questions are neither too easy nor too difficult to answer. Sometimes they are difficult to be honest, but if you study well then I dont think it would be difficult to pass. 80% of the class have pass marks in the exams.

I started studying political science in class xi. I really love this subject from then. My 10+2 teachers suggested me that for political science honours, Jadavpur University (Department of International Relations) is a perfect choice. The number of student ratio in my class is 1:2 ; most of them are girls. All of the professors are very good. There teaching style is so unique. The exam are quite tuff, conceptual. 2 semesters in a year.
