There are many professors who are internationally acclaimed. Their teaching method is unparalleled. The course has four semesters, with each bearing four papers. There will be eight internals in total, for each paper there are two internal assessments. 50 marks each paper. 20 internal and 30 theory or main semester exam. Papers are moderately difficult but if one attends all the classes it won't be a problem.

Course Curriculum Overview:

English and Comparative Literature have a multidimensional study structure. It's a comparative study of different genres of literature belonging to different language across the globe. The teaching method is unique and prepares one to see things from a subjective point of view.

Campus Life:

We had different clubs but nobody insisted on joining it depend upon individuals to get involved or not. There is always an active social protest that goes on like everyday about injustice faced by different people, justice is what they seek until recieved. I never feared for unjust treatment because I would always get back of those people who believed in equality. Since I am from hilly area , in streets people would call me 'momo' and 'chinki' that was pretty hurtful but beside that campus was my safe heaven except for few minor prejudices about nepali people. Most of my friends were interested where I live in. I was interested in table tennis so I was a part of TT group. Everybody seemed calm and cool with me being there, one reason was that it was crowded with men and sometimes only female person would be me but it never felt big of a deal because badminton court room would alwayd be filled with women than men. Campus surroundings look serene during evening time.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Our curriculum was set according to the need of present literary world, theories were taught practically it was if applying every little lesson to real life. Every single text were selected on the basis of ongoing trends of literary world, each professor had excellent proficiency and competence of what he or she was teaching. Mostly whatever literature offered, we were taught to question and challenge the idea than passively accept it, therefore it is an eye opening journey than mere course. I have learned to become liberal to other people's idea as well as confident about my own perspectives too. My world view may not matched with my classmates but these kind of diversity taught me to be resilient and active. At first it felt difficult but as soon one gets acquainted with various ideas and philosophies one xan easily perform well in exam especially when on has good command over language.

The clubs for most extracurricular activities are developed recently so the basic core team is also in formation, if you are someone who wants to develop a team then you will get that experience but not with a team already developed. The annual fest is held in April where singer is invited to perform and various inter college events are held for an awesome college life experience.

Placement Experience:

The placements and seminars for the same are organised within regular intevals so the opportunities are there for sure. There was recently a placement opportunity with Japan wherein they needed students of masters for teaching in Japan. You do get fair opportunities and NET is obviously the preferred option for most of the students of Masters in English.

Faculty:

Like the college in which I study it is a autonomous college ,semi Government College and around we have plus 10 teachers in our department for English and are HOD is such an excellent teacher with a vibrant figure of speech and vocal. As other teachers are even excellent and hard working summer kind of little aggressive as teachers use to be but we are very thankful for having such a faculty in our department who are so cooperated to the students. We used to have two semester per year in which we have one midterm and one main semester where the midterm is about 30 marks and other was about 70 marks per year we have two semester and according to my course I am doing ma in English so I have a duration of 2 years in this 2 years I am going to appear 4 semesters are marking system is on the basis of CGPA and even in percentage also. The only thing I can save for my exams that in our midterm which is about 30 marks we used to appear two answers out of 4 and we have to write per questions answer about 4 to 5 or 6 pages and this is very important to understand from that one line question wet what the teacher actually demands us to write on the paper they used to ask us tricky questions with simple answers.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Like if I say why I did choose the course of MA in English is just because I want to appear UGC neet exam and I want to be assistant professor in English it's my dream and even I want to even try in meaning other competitive examinations in our state and even in India. The only thing I can suggest to improve in the course circulum and teaching methods is that they need to make a things even understand in simple way to a high level of learning because some of our teacher use to teachers in a very high level of learning where other used to teachers in a very simple way.

Faculty:

The Faculty to Student ratio for an average batch would be 5 : 1. The faculty that I liked would be Dr Sajan Nalpady and Dr Sony Augustine. I did not dislike anyone specifically. The exams are very easy and can be written in a relaxed manner. The marks of the written exams are out of 60 and the internals out of 40 whereas other colleges have written tests for 80 marks and internals for 20 marks. The course curriculum is also different and advanced compared to others and includes various relevant subjects. Generally all students pass the exams

Campus Life:

The Campus is an open and social place where the small space means most people would know each other and are in friendly terms with everyone. Generally, seminars and campus fests are held by the student union and an annual event might also be held which would be mini sports consisting of football and badminton tournaments. The campus has mainly two Student unions, SFI and KSU

It makes students aware of the pros and cons of certain important elements of the society. A slight improvement is needed in terms of explanation of the topics. More realistic techniques should be used. Exams are conducted of 2 hours and level depends on the particular subject.

Faculty:

The faculty is very very approachable, friendly and helpful, as I said earlier. They will help you with everything, once you reach out to them. I personally liked the literary criticism and Indian literature faculties, as they were the subjects which seem comparatively interesting to me. There's no 'best' faculty as such. All of them are great. There are 4 semesters in the M.A. course. Each semester has 6 subjects, those 6 subjects are divided into internal marks and external marks, i.e 70 marks for each subject is in the hands of the University, and 30 marks for each subject is attained through internal exams, i.e through college. The exams are pretty easy to pass, if attended classes regularly, because then you know what to study and what not to. The course is about Literature, so the curriculum is appropriate for the course.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

Admission fee, Library, Corpus, Gymkhana, Eligibility, Insurance, Registration Fees, etc, all of this amounted to 5530/-. And administrative charges, internet charges, campus conservancy fees, etc amounted to 1950/-. So the total fees paid by me only for the admission process in the college was 7480/-. I am a Hindu, in the general, open category, and the fees applicable to me for M.A. Course was 7480/-. There are scholarships available for the students of reserve category, @ 50%. My course has 4 semesters, for each semester we have to pay 860/- as exam form fees, so that's 3440/- for the whole course.

The college is autonomous, thus even if it's registered under Calcutta University, the syllabus is maintained by the college. The faculty is exceptional with everyone trying their best to support and guide the students to their best of abilities in the academic field. The college adhers to a semester based examination structure where each semester is marked by an internal examination called Continuous Internal Assessment ( CIA) followed by end semester examinations. The examinations are fairly difficult, but the professor guide to students providing all the materials and resources required for the course. The fail percentage of the students are fairly low, with given chance to clear their papers over time. The college is clearly famous for its English and Commerce faculties. The other faculties are slowly catching up to the high standards set by the college. All the departments have best of faculties for the students.

Ques. How is the English MA course in IGNOU University?

● Top Answer By Padmini Alina on 20 Oct 22

Ans. It is extremely convenient to pursue an M.A. in English through IGNOU. The only problem is that the course materials are delivered very late. However, you are not required to rely on or wait for the materials. Because the materials remain the same year after year, they can be obtained from anyone who has already completed the course or from used bookstores. To be honest, the material isn't much help. In fact, guidebooks are more beneficial because they also provide you with the previous year's question papers, which are extremely helpful in understanding the exam question pattern, and once understood, you are guaranteed to score above 55% on your first attempt. You have five years to complete your course, which consists of eight credits, four in the first year and four in the second. It is mandatory to submit the assignment for the paper you wish to sit for during the exams, which are held twice a year. It is entirely up to you whether to take all exams at once or spread them out over all ten semesters. In short, if you are determined, you can complete your master's degree in two years by taking two papers each semester. Contact classes are scheduled; if possible, attend them as they will get you started on your preparation and keep you motivated.  Doing some research for your assignment and attempting to keep your answer original rather than copying from the guide will increase your chances of getting good grades on the assignments. If you fail a paper in the semester exam, you have the option of retaking it in subsequent semesters until you achieve a passing mark. So, get the reference books, analyze the question pattern, turn in your assignment, and begin studying for the exam.Read more

Ques. Is EFLU, Hyderabad good for pursuing an M.A. in English, if one has gotten a degree in English from DU? What is its ranking among the top universities for humanities?

● Top Answer By Vinit Ghose on 15 Jul 21

Ans. EFLU is an exclusive university for English. There are 29 departments, out of which 20 are in English. With so many micro-specialties, pursuing an MA in English from EFLU is a great option. The university gives a lot of freedom in choosing subjects in post-graduation. Post-graduation applicants get a pool of subjects to choose from in their degree at EFLU. EFLU conducts only one entrance test for admission in all streams. If you clear the entrance test you will get the chance to choose whichever subject you want to pursue. You can either choose all subjects from one department only or select subjects from several departments if you want to have a mixed degree. Even, you are allowed to change subjects till two weeks of the course. The linguistic department of EFLU is very famous all over India, because of its quality of education. It has a world-class set of faculties in the department, along with an extensive library for helping students in their coursework. The literature department of EFLU is not as good as other central universities in India. Although there are excellent professors here too, the scope for students in literature is limited. Considering the quality of the linguistics department in EFLU, it is a great option for English graduates. Because of the cafeteria system of choosing subjects, there is a lot of diversity in the department.Read more

Ques. How do I write a good answer in the exam of a Master of Arts English MEG at IGNOU and other universities?

● Top Answer By Anu Mehta on 03 Nov 22

Ans. Here are two of the major points that are helpful in writing a good answer in the exam for an MA in English: The answer must start with an excellent introduction to the writer and the text. Then, there should be good content, sticking to the point. The answer must end with an eminent conclusion.  The answer must not be written in a storytelling way. Students are supposed to answer what the question is asking them to explain, the theme, the character, and the point of view attached to the question. Whatever answer students write, it must be revolving around giving proper reasons, perspectives, and possible central ideas that a question is trying to ask. The answer must not be diverting and stretching, without providing any appropriate conclusion.Read more
