  • Infrastructure is inadequate due to the lack of funding, not all classrooms are air conditioned so sometimes it is hard to attend classes in the summer.
  • Due to the sheer size of the university communication is sometimes an issue. Oke needs to coordinate with the HoD, Dean and VC for all concerns which can get tiresome sometimes.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Mich better compared to contemporary colleges. This course actually imparts relevant skills such as creative writing, quick comprehension which I believe is lacking in a lot of colleges. Exams are moderate to hard and focuses on the creative side. Memorization based questions are not to be expected and one has to think out side the box in order to score good marks.

Internships Opportunities :

While internship opportunities are available in the Engineering Departments, no such facility is available in the Arts Faculty or the Science Faculty. There used to be a placement cell in my department which no longer exists unfortunately.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees are very less and around 2000/year. Full and half free scholarships are available for the people who need them. Apart from that scholarships like JU SLYFF etc are available which can help with other costs.

Campus Life :

Sanskriti which is organised in 3 phases by the 3 student unions namely AFSU, SFSU and FETSU is eastern India's largest cultural fest where renowned singers from both Bengal and Bollywood come to perform. The whole of the fest spans almost one entire month. The campus life is amazing with lots of people. The campus is very liberal and restrictions free so do except certain levels of PDA.

Admission :

Eligibility for the course is passing +2 exams with over 75% marks from any of the authorised boards in India. Application process is quite simple, one just needs to fill the application from online which is available on the JU official website. The admission test fees in Rs 100. The exam is quite competitive as over 4000 students compete for 75 seats. The exam mostly seeks to understand your overall grasp of the language and your ability to think out of the box. All the previous year questions are available on the website.

Faculty :

The faculty to student ratio would be around 1:20 which is actually pretty impressive when compared to other public institutions in the field of the social sciences. The faculty is very qualified and knowledgeable with people from Oxford and Cambridge university. A very unconventional towards teaching is taken which is also reflected in the course curriculum. Approch ability depends on the concerned professor. However, most of the professors can be reached through mail or WhatsApp.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Overall my course is good and suitable for me but one thing that i didn't like is exam timing. Exam timing is too short . Students have to write a 14 page of a answer sheet within 1 hour. This is almost impossible. College should change this rule and should extend the exam timing.

I was wondering how mountains formed and other geographical phenomenon that's why i took geography to learn more. This subject is realistic subject which deals with different aspects of environment . Geography should be include math as a compulsory subject because without proper knowledge of math it is difficult to learn about different things.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I completed my graduation in English Literature and this course taught me to present my point of view, create my imagination about everything around me and write it down, beautify those thoughts and be vocal about those. Now come to the syllabus structure, The University of Calcutta syllabus is well-designed. I am completely satisfy with the syllabus pattern and even I am doing my Master's degree from University of Calcutta.
