IGDTUW: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 250 Reviews

The faculty at the college is well-qualified, with most members holding PhDs or master's degrees from prestigious institutions such as IITs, SPA, and CEPT. The average age of lecturers is 35 years, and they are experienced in their respective domains. The faculty-to-student ratio is approximately 1:70 to 1:80, which is considered adequate. Faculty members are approachable and supportive, often available for student consultations outside of class. Courses are industry-relevant, though some faculty members lack direct industry exposure.

Classes are regularly held, with each subject typically having one lecture per day, lasting around one hour. The exam system consists of mid-semester and end-semester exams, and students generally perform well, with a high passing percentage. Faculty members are praised for their ability to make lectures interesting and for providing comprehensive notes and assignments. However, there are some inconsistencies in teaching quality, with a few new faculty members lacking mastery in their domains.

Overall, the faculty is regarded as supportive and knowledgeable, contributing positively to students' academic experiences.

The faculty members , including our HOD are cooperative and apporachable. They are always ready to help , especially when it comes to guidance for research papers and projects. Our MAE branch has around 50 students making it manageable and allows better interaction with teachers. In first year , most subjects except 1 or 2 are common for all branches and from second year onwards , core subjects related to our branch takes place .

Faculty-to-student ratio is 1:40 to 1:50 . Each member handle multiple batches, but is generally approachable . I really like Deepti mam, she is veryy veryy supportive, and she is very nice to students she literally helps every student who is on need . I don't want to take names of faculty member that i don't like, but there are some faculty member who are very rude very unsupportive and who are doing partiality. There are 6-7 exams in first year and different for every semester depending upon the subjects. In the last year you have only 3 subjects, that is 3 exam. Exam level was quite difficult but not much you can easily get passed if you pay attention in the classes. There were only of few students left who are getting back like in the ratio of 3-4 student in thr class of 40 .

So there is no relative marking in the college you get 10 in a subject if your marks are between 93 to 100 and 9 for 85 to 92 and so on . Getting good cgpa in a core branch is a joke . I'm in core branch so I can tell about the professor's here , only few profs are good ,by few I mean really few. Some prof are psychotic but they might give you marks ,some are just full of themselves like NAS professor Miss Maria worst teacher you'll ever encounter in your whole life .The ECE building is a pure chaos ,no Ac in classroom, washrooms are really bad , there are 77 student in my class and I think faculty is less compared to students, anyway they're of no use so don't mind it . In core subject it is tough to score marks ,but in every sem you'll have something related to soft skills, human values, communication system, they're scoring.if you don't have scoring subject just choose those subject in interdisciplinary that is easy to score.

Faculties are really good they help us in studies for doubts they take doubt in their lectures and clears concepts . One of our maths faculty is really nice as she covers the syllabus on time by solving all our doubts and clearing concepts , she is really dedicated and even helped us when our exams were coming she took doubt classes even taught some topics again to make sure we understand everything. In first year I got all good faculties who are very nice to us . In one year our college takes 4 theory exams, 2 in each semester. Like in 1st semester we had mid sem and end sem exams where mid sem is for 30 marks which is halfed and end sem is for 60 marks and as mid sem marks are halfed so there is practical exams for only those subjects whose mid sem marks are halfed which is ofc 25 marks. Minimum marks needed to paas the semester is 45 . Difficulty of exam is modarate like if you are attending classes regularly then it's not hard to pass the semester there is enough gap between exams for preparation.

The faculty here is a mixed bag. Some professors are actually pretty solid—they explain things well, keep the lectures interactive, and if you show interest, they’re helpful and supportive. You can reach out through mail or after class and most will respond decently. But yeah, not everyone’s like that. Some just read off slides, rush through topics, or act annoyed if you ask basic stuff. The approachability depends on the prof tbh. Some will happily guide you with projects or doubts, while others act like they’re just waiting for the clock to hit the end of lecture. The faculty-student relationship is chill with a few, awkward with others. You’ll figure out early on which ones to vibe with and which ones to just survive through. Exams happen twice every sem—midterms and end terms, with some quizzes and assignments thrown in randomly. Internals matter a lot. If your attendance’s low or you miss submissions, you’re in trouble. Passing is not that hard if you study regularly, but failing does happen especially in tougher subjects like DSA or Maths. They don’t hand out marks for free. So yeah, the curriculum is okay, not amazing. You’ll learn stuff that matters, but a lot of the real skills come from what you do outside the syllabus.

The best thing is that even if the percentage of attendance drop by a few percent, our faculties dont mind. So, this shows how liberal and understanding they are. Students hardly fail to clear the exams as passing percentage of students is excellent here.

Terms are made on conditions as if we do well, the faculties will automatically praise that and if we don't do well, we aren't going to get any. Hence, toiling hard is the only choice we have and this way I have been managed to impress our faculty Mr, Shyam Mukherjee who also was out previous HOD.

Faculties means alma matter and our alma matter take care of us like their own. I think they have taken some religious quotes like love others like self and all very seriously. I have hardly missed home as I am from Kolkata and sometimes it gets frustrated staying away from home. Our faculties though have ensured that we don't face these issues.
