LIFE AT NIT GOA

Remarks :

In terms of teaching and providing skills for the students NIT goa is amongst the best institute. I see mutual coordination between the students and the faculty and there exist mutual interaction between them. However any student might only find their college best which certainly depends upon their viewpoint and perspective, although unlike any other institutes we do have a small campus but believe me there I feel I am at home when I am at NIT GOA.

Entrance Preview :

I wrote JEE mains exams in the year 2015 and qualified for JEE advanced with a score of 136 out of 360 and a CRL Rank of 37200.I placed NIT GOA as the topmost preference during JOSSA seat allotment as it was closer to reach as I stayed at Panjim also due to low transportation cost. Also my parent’s preferred NIT Goa than any other NITs. Luckily I was selected for the ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATTION BRANCH during the second round of counselling.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I feel that the course structure is accurate. During the first year all basics are cleared and all the branches have same subjects. Then during the second year more attention is given on the department which you have chosen and develop skills based on the areas of the field chosen. Then in next year more and more skills developing subjects are introduced which can help us get internships and finally get a better placement in almost any company. They also focus on research by during the vacations by allowing foreign faculties to take research based course.

Internships Opportunities :

Yes, our institute provide internship but only one company visits every year which is SIEMENS.SIEMENS is a well-known company they select their candidates by online aptitude test which is held every year in college for second year students . The candidates who get qualified are then interviewed and then students are selected. They provide a stipend Rs.35,000 during the three months of summer vacation and then it reduces Rs.25,000 for the next 9 months of vacation.

Placement Experience :

Companies which recruits students always comes once in year. They are Barclays ,Siemens, LnT constructions ,Polaris-Intellect, Microsoft , Mphasis, Ruckus Wireless, Babajob.com , Amdocs, Sapient Services ,Wipro , LnT infotec, TATA Elxsi, Tech Mahindra, Indian Navy and many more. Some companies package are mentioned below:- LnT Constructions, CTC(tentative) :5.5lakhs, Eligibility: B.Tech(ECE/EEE)&M.Tech(PEPS), Remarks: Online tests and interviews. Polaris-Intellect, CTC(tentative) :5lakhs, Eligibility: B.Tech(ECE/CSE), Remarks: Online tests Microsoft, CTC(tentative) :9.78lakhs, Eligibility: B.Tech(ECE/CSE), Remarks: interviews. Most the students get selected in the above mentioned companies.

College Events :

Technical, It is an annual technical event which usually takes place for two days. In this event 3rd year students host programmes and events which are generally include inventions, Robotics and Quizzes. They also give their junior students to help host events which then helps them in getting a better job. Students from different institutes can participate. Raag. It is cultural event which is held annually .Events would generally include dance, singing, cultural fest and some online games .Similarly they are hosted by 3rd year students .Students from different institutes can participate.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

However it is not expensive as compared to private institutions. The fee structure is as follows. Tuition fee(SC/ST Students are exempted). I SEM Rs.45000 II and IV SEM Rs.35000 VI AND VIII SEM Rs.17500 and so on. Other fees for institute development Rs 4000

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

General students are not given any scholarships. I haven’t received any scholarship yet. But the students belonging to SC/ST and OBC have received them. However I don’t know particularly what scholarships they received. But they do get chance for education loan.

Campus Life :

Unlike any other college mostly the male to female was very high as very had hardly 3-4 girls in our batch of 90 students. Recently a 5km Freedom run was introduced by our college and the students, teaching staffs and others were also allowed to participate. Every year inter NIT sports event is held in different NIT’s and it includes games like javelin,100m,200m,500m,1km relay events, chess, badminton, tennis ,table tennis and football just like the any sports day we celebrate in our school. Robotics competition is held during the technical event and the seniors introduce robotic workshop.

Hostel Facilities :

NIT goa mess includes food containing most vital nutrients which helps in maintaining proper health and diet. The food available here is quite simple and you can non –veg twice a week and the menu is mostly veg. However you don’t except food to be served to you and there exist a self-service rule. Unlike home food the food served here might not also be healthy sometime.

Alumni/Alumna :

Students need to participate in most of the events in order to gain senior support and trust.Once it is done they help completing the mini project that we receive in every SEM. They can also be helpful in major project that we receive during the final year.

Exam Structure :

Every semester has exams which are Mid Sem , minor ,internal and End Sem exam for all the subjects. All these exams are pretty challenging and the End Sem is the most challenging one. However Labs have most of the practical sessions and only one End sem exam.

Admission :

Like I have mentioned, I was qualified for seat allotment so I went to JOSSA website .Then I registered filling the required details by entering my name, roll number, application number, and date of birth and took a printout of the registration form containing the personal data. Once registered, I marked my choice of branches and institutes in order of their preference. I filled in as many choices in ORDER my preference as I wished to from the list of available seats and then locked it. I was selected during the second round of counselling and then went in person to NIT Goa to register myself.

Faculty :

Faculties here are highly qualified almost all the faculties have a PhD degree. Most of them are graduates from IIT’s and NIT’s. They are very friendly and also gave their cooperation in any research. To be frank they are never late and teach their subject with great passion.

Placement Experience:

The placement at my college are decent. Students from Computer and IT department easily get placed at a company. The companies that frequently visit Goa engineering college are persistent, one shield, Infosys, tcs , Wipro etc . Each year there are around 300 offers received in the entire college. The highest package a student has got is 15lakhs per annum from TurtleShell. The average package is 6 LPA. Around 50% od the students get placed. I wish to work at a product based tech company after my graduation.

Placement Experience:

Final students are eligible for placements. Companies such as turtle mint, findem, Nokia, IFB, Samsung, Adani power, HDFC Bank, Tesco, Upskill, ONGC, Jio, and many more. Last year almost everyone got placed. Average package is 10 LPA. This year though placements were not as expected because of economic depression. Even after the placements, lay offs have become common. Hence to cope up with the competition we need to keep upskilling.

Remarks:

The college as a whole has good faculty, infrastructure and good placements. It can be one of the best colleges one could get (if not an IIT). The only negative (not exactly) remark would be the fee structure of the college
