- NIT Goa is located in the dream vacation place of India and abroad. It is nice to visit peaceful beaches of goa to escape from hectic college life sometimes. Also Goa is not just beaches and parties, it is much more and we have seen all of it.
- NIT Goa inspite of being new NIT is growing at a very fast pace. Honestly when I joined the college i wasn't so happy but now the picture is really different, infrastructure, equipments, culture, every aspect is improving with each joining batch.
Dislikes
- In timing of Nit Goa is 9 pm after that campus gates are closed. So we don't really get to enjoy the night life of Goa. Also from this year Institute is making it compulsory for everyone to stay in hostels, so PGs are not an option anymore.
- There are less clubs in NIT Goa and even the present clubs like ecell is not active. The recent joined batches have initiated many new clubs but because of less population clubs are not doing very well.
Course Curriculum Overview :
As a mechanical student, my subject is based on practical applications rather than theory. We don't have enough facilities in our campus to learn things practically. In fact some of our courses which were supposed to be completed in real labs were completed on virtual labs with zero real- world learning from the subject.
Placement Experience :
Final students are eligible for placements. Companies such as turtle mint, findem, Nokia, IFB, Samsung, Adani power, HDFC Bank, Tesco, Upskill, ONGC, Jio, and many more. Last year almost everyone got placed. Average package is 10 LPA. This year though placements were not as expected because of economic depression. Even after the placements, lay offs have become common. Hence to cope up with the competition we need to keep upskilling.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Total fees of one year is 1.5 lakhs. Hostel fees for some semester is approx. 37k. Institute provides you with scholarships according to the family income. For below one lakh per annum, tuition fees comes down to 4000. So, only fees to be paid will be hostel fees. Also you may start doing part time freelancing jobs for your own expenses.
Campus Life :
After the long wait of 4 years, our annual techno- cultural fest, saavyas happened in April 2024. Since, our batch organized it, it's now expected that it will he happening every year. Infrastructure of NIT Goa new campus is quite descent apart, and some sites are still I'm construction. Cricket, volleyball, table tennis inter college and intra college tournaments are held from time to time. We have projectors in each classroom. Two big seminar halls, conference rooms, etc. ( for more details check NIT Goa website). We have few clubs such as dance club, literary clubs, singing club. However, many new clubs are being formed and they will gain momentum in next 3-4 years.
Hostel Facilities :
Rooms are descent here in new campus. We have a fancy separate room with one cupboard, a desk, a chair and a bed, with good amount of lights. Meal quality is not good. Boys have kitchen in their hostels but for girls hostel food is delivered from boys hostel. Because of this girl students have to suffer. Even in timing for inside the campus is not so strict with boys. Hostel is quite affordable and compulsory for all the students. No PG is allowed.
Admission :
I gave jee mains in 2021 and got 95 percentile and got NIT Goa. This may sound genuine as an admission process, but it is not. This is because of reservation of home state students. In my class, there are students who even don't have 90 percentile. And not only this, more than 50% population is from Goa in the college. And this is why we see disputes between the goans and non-goans. Very high home state quota reservation is one reason that the admission process isn't fair.
Faculty :
The faculty to student ratio is very less and even lesser if we consider the permanent faculties. Faculties are highly qualified but again, many of them doesn't make much efforts on learning. Also NIT Goa's faculties focus on gate, PhD and research only and keep convincing the students to give gate exam. They don't like if we try to pursue our interests. Sometimes faculties hold grudges with students who are involved in extracurriculars and clubs. They focus more on assignments and minors and don't motivate students to do projects and build their skills.
