Remarks :
I applied through IIT-JEE 2011 and 80% minimum marks in 12th, Cleared it and was eligible for ADAPT, specific to Architecture and Design cleared it and was offered admission to Bachelor's of Architecture (5 years) program. I didn't avail of any quota. The counselling for the choice of program was done online. The seat was alloted on the base of merit. The admission process was smooth.
Course Curriculum Overview :
My interest in design and engineering-oriented me towards architecture in general plus the plethora of opportunities that the IIT Roorkee offered helped me decide to choose the program. The faculty to student ratio was about 1:20. All the faculty were highly qualified with Phd and multiple years of teaching experience in similar well-known institutions. The exams were conducted twice every semester. The grading was competitive and based on the relative method.
Internships Opportunities :
Companies like L&T, Dar Al Hansa etc come for internships apart from architectural and interior design offices for Architectural students. The institute has multiple MOUs with many Indian and foreign universities for research and training. Students usually opt for self-applying to companies and roles they better align with since design is a very subjective and passion-driven field. I didn't sit for any internship activities that were organised by the placement & training office. Its relatively easier to secure a good opportunity for yourself with the portfolio.
Placement Experience :
Placements are usually good for all departments, 4 year course students become eligible for placements in their 3rd year, 5-year course students become eligible for placements in their 4th year. Almost all major companies visit the campus average package varies depending on the department and profile from 6 LPA To 1 Cr. Almost everyone who opts for the placements gets placed. I however didn't sit for the placements so my information on these subjects is second hand.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I joined in 2011, the few were nominal for an institute of its stature. The fee was in parts for - tuition, hostel & boarding, medical, sports and gym. Since then the fee has grown to 2.5 times. I was provided with an MCM scholarship through MHRD, SALF Scholarship through Alumni Network as well I was provided assistance for Foreign Exchange programme. I was part of the college placement team but didn't sit for the placement since I was offered an opportunity in the USA on my own. All internships that I got were paid, though didn't secure them through the college placement office.
Campus Life :
Cognizance is the annual tech fest of IIT Roorkee (March), Thomson is the cultural fest (Sept), Sangram is the Sports fest (Feb) and others which were for hobbies and culture. Mahatma Gandhi Library is the central library, apart from this each department has its own library, these cumulatively house a huge collection of old and contemporary study as well as recreation books.
Hostel Facilities :
IIT Roorkee has multiple hostels, ideally, everyone is supposed to be living inside the campus. Hostel rooms are usually a shared room for 2 for the first year and single second year onwards, the hostels are coupled with a mess and cafeteria, the food is adequate. Hostel and mess registrations happen before the start of the semester, the fee is paid as a whole before the semester.
