NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Mathematics

Exponents: An exponent is a number that represents the number of times a factor is multiplied by itself. If number 9 is multiplied n number of times, then it will be represented as:

9×9×9×............n= 9n

Thus Exponential formula is a= a × a × a × .........… × a

Multiplication Law: According to the multiplication law, the product of two exponents having the same base but different powers is equal to the base raised to the sum of two powers.

am × an = am+n

Negative Exponent Law: A base with negative power equals the reciprocal of it with positive power.

a-m = 1/am

Division Law: According to this law, when two exponents with the same bases but different powers are divided, it results in the base being raised to the difference between two powers.

am ÷ an = am-n
