Honest Review on NIT Puducherry

Likes

The first thing , i like in college is our lab facility and equipment. The laboratory facilities at my college are excellent and well-equipped with all needy components for experiments. The labs are spacious and provide a good environment.
My college is little bit far from the hustle and bustle of the city, offering a very silent and peaceful environment. This settings provides a very good atmosphere for studying and focusing on academic without the distractions of urban life.
Our college hosts several fests and festival celebrations throughout the year. These events are vibrant and well-organized, providing students with an opportunity to showcase their hidden talents apart from their academic works.

Dislikes

One of the major drawbacks of my college is the weather condition, which can be extremely hot. Being located in the southern part of the India, the temperatures often soar, making it uncomfortable for students, especially during the summer months.
Another concern at my college is the knowledge level of the PhD scholars. This can be disappointing for students who seek mentorship and advanced academic guidance. This also create issues while doing our experiments and projects.
A significant drawback of my college is its distance from the nearest market. Being situated far from the city, it is often challenging for students to access essential good and services. This create frustration when we need something immediate.

Placement opportunities in various organization in the campus and highest package being offered

The placement of my college is decent. I can't tell it totally bad or very good. From 7th semester, students are eligible for campus placements. Placement statistics for 2023-2024 were like this, around 40 companies visited to our college some are names as ABB, Ford, Genpact, Kaleyra, Nvidia, Unacademy, TCS, Tesco, etc. Highest package was offered at 22 lakh per annum by Nvidia. And average package was around 7 to 8 lakh per annum. The percentage of students who got placed was 74%. My plans after getting degree is to get placed and do a job.

What are the internship opportunities in the campus and projects?

The internship opportunities is not good in our college. A very limited number of companies come to our college to give internship opportunities. But faculties are helpful, they can help you to get the internship. But at the end, you have to search for an internship. For our branch, internship companies give us projects like design a single-phase voltage controller, etc.

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

I think the course curriculum is very relevant for a specific branch. Also, now our college is one of the colleges that are following the new National Education policy. This policy provides us an advantage to learn about other branches also. Examination levels are also at medium and it is always conducted at the given time.

Total fees structure of the course

I think, my college fee structure is very similar to other NITs of India. It is around 70 thousand per semester for a BTech student. But fee remission system is also there for some needy students based on their caste and family income. I think 100% fee remission is there for the student whose family income is less than one lakh and 67% for the student whose family income is between 1 lakh to 3 lakh. The complete cost for a student who is paying the total amount without any remission is around 6 lakh. Till now, I have not been awarded any stipends.

Various fest, clubs and library of the campus

Our college conducts several events like tech-fest, cultural fest, club fest, sports fest, and many festival celebration events. Our Tech-fest is named Gyanith which is generally conducted in the month of Feb-march and our cultural fest is named Lecial which is generally held in November. The library is very good and big. You can find almost every book on different subjects and also in different domains. Every classroom has basic things like a green board, very good quality benches, a projector, and clean floors. For sports, there is one basketball court, three volleyball court, two badminton courts, one cricket, and one football ground as well. There are also different kinds of clubs run by the college, like music club, dance club, literary club, arts and craft club, gaming club, photography club and many more.

What are facilities available in the college hostel?

Room facilities are somewhat good. Rooms are big and every room has windows, tables, beds, and drawers. For the first year, their rooms have AC but it is not there for second, third, or fourth years. That is a drawback of the hostel facility. Mess meal quality is ok ok, personally, I don't like it. Also there is not any separate mess for north people, so this is also a drawback. The registration process for the hostel is also very easy, only we have to pay the hostel fee to the government website and submit the receipt to the hostel office. Rooms are always available there. There is also a system that you can leave the hostel and you can live outside the college and you can come to the college as day scholar.

Faculty and learning experience in the campus

The faculty members are somewhat average, with a mix of teaching quality. While some professors are highly knowledgeable, but others are not at the same standard. Some faculties are very supportive in nature and interact with us very well.

Admission process and eligibility criteria of the college

The admission process was quite simple and the same as what we did in our 10th and 12th class. For taking admission to an NIT college, you need to qualify JEE Mains exam conducted by the Indian government. I have taken the EEE branch in my college, and my general category rank in JEE mains was 42000. So i can tell that, for taking EEE branch in NIT Puducherry you need to come under at least 45000 All India rank. But some reservations are also there for general EWS, OBC, ST and ST students. Home state quota is also there for home state students.

Admission:

I applied for other NITs of the similar range(NIT Raipur, NIT AP etc) and private colleges (VIT, Sastra) , i got a confirmed admission from VIT, Sastra and NITAP but i still went for NIT Puducherry because: First of all it is a central institution of National Importance The peer group consist of intelligent people who come only from merit qualification, not from management quota. The admission for NIT PY is from JoSAA and CSAB counselling

A Bliss of a College but not yet

Likes

The activeness of various clubs especially coding club.
The various speeches and informative sessions on various disciplines.
The Competitive Atmosphere helps people to actively participate in various competitions and challenges.

Dislikes

Connectivity to the college is still very less.
Constructions are still going on, so there would be a stingy atmosphere.
Extreme weather conditions as it is near the sea.

Admission:

I applied to varius other colleges too during the JOSAA counselling but I chose this college over others as it is a a nit and provides multiple opportunites to one. I preffere it over teir 2 iiits like kottayam, sricity.

Badminton court which is good and faculty will also play in that court
Basketball court which will be good and can also play cricket on it
Main gate of the college is very beautiful and npl organized by seniors

Dislikes

No cricket ground and cricket is taken very lightly but intrested people can play

I choose this college over some other colleges because of brand tag nit which made me think this will get me good placements and it will have good infrastructure and I applied for sastra college which give me bio technology and rejected it in round 1.and I cleared jee mains to get seat in this College.

Events like "Le Ciel" (cultural fest)offer students a platform to showcase their talents and skills.
The infrastructure is great and also being located in Karaikal offers a unique cultural experience
There are various clubs and societies for students to join like telugu club, fashion club,literary club etc

Dislikes

The climate is too hot we can't bare this climate
Here there is only few shopping malls , there is no much travelling spots in Karaikal
There is only one train to reach Chennai this is one of the major problem for students

U should qualify upto the mark there will fee for application form there is separate fees for category. To get ece oc,bc should get above 90% and for sc,st above 80%.after paying the fees for application they will return money in first year they will ask to pay extra amount so that they will repay to us

Beauty of the campus is an absolute bliss. Less work pressure of academic. Campus is well connected to nature.

Admission:

Get a good percentile is jee mains Nta site is there for application form. Chances of getting a seat increase if you have any reservation quota or a state quota. 2 class test and 1 final sem exam conducted. Admission process is really easy.

Which should I choose, College of Engineering (Guindy) or NIT Puducherry?

NIT Puducherry is very new compared to College of Engineering Guindy (CEG). Let me share some points which might help you decide.

CEG is very old and experienced as an educational institution. It has well-established CSE and ECE departments with exceptional and updated lab facilities.
The syllabus is more or less similar in both colleges.
CEG has a more competitive student crowd which eventually helps students to boost their morale.
Due to its years of educational experience, CEG definitely has a better placement record than NIT Puducherry.

For General (Other State) candidates, the closing ranks for NIT Puducherry are above 90 percentile for most branches. 77 percentile is quite low for general category admission.

NIT Puducherry offers a 2 years long M.Tech program under 3 specializations namely, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering. The institute charges a fee of INR 1.65 lakhs for its M.Tech program. Candidates must have passed a B.E./B.Tech degree in the relevant discipline from any recognized university. Candidates must have scored at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in their graduation. Candidates are selected on the basis of their ranks in the GATE entrance exam. An applying candidate is also required to appear for the CCMT counseling process for final admission into the program.

Yes, as per the previous cutoff analysis, you can get the various specialization choices at the NIT Puducherry with this rank. The overall cutoff for JEE Main was 48127 - 159343 rank in 2023. The final admission is offered after the successful completion of JoSAA counseling process. Candidates must have completed their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as mandatory subjects from any recognized board of education. Candidates should have scored a minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in their 10+2

Depending upon previous year data, we can expect that the GATE Opening cutoff and closing cutoff for M.Tech. CSE could be 496 and 363 respectively. These are higher in comparison to 2022 opening and closing cutoff marks which were 539 and 464.
