I wanted to do a master's in physics and tried my luck in IIT- JAM. The specific reason for choosing NIT Durgapur is that's the best that I could get with a rank below 1000. Besides, low fees also were a factor for me to choose the specific NIT. There were 12 faculties for 13 students. Yes, you heard it right. It's almost a 1:1 ratio. Now there are 3 more faculties but the number of seats is more than 25 now. The Term exams were moderate. You can easily crack those with moderate study.
I choose this course because I want to study nanoscience that's why I have chosen it. In nit Durgapur, there is 12 faculty member including hod. Honestly speaking they are extremely good, they behave like their friends. You can share any kind of problem with our professor. They all are down to earth. They all are highly educated some of them had done their postdoctoral in abroad. They had published lots of articles. Every month they conduct assignments or assessments and end-term exams. And question level is not much difficult if you follow and noted down all the speech.
As I am from Mathematics department. I will say whole the faculty is so good & supportive. They always try to solve each & every issue which you are facing against your study. As I remember when our batch started some of our proffers were teaching with ppt so some of the students from my batch faced difficulty in that. So they said this to Pinaki sir to request the faculty for using a whiteboard or one note for teaching us. From the next day, most of the teachers started teaching us with one note or using the whiteboard.
According to my opinion I would say that the course which we are pursuing is really good enough to cover all the necessary topics which we need to learn or we should know for the jobs which we will get after placement. Now a days the companies as well as industries actually demand this kind of theoretical and practical experience which we are taught in our college. Beside academics we have opportunity to work in the companies, industries as well as in founded projects in top institutions as summer and winter intern. Our curriculum almost cover everything which we need to learn for the actual work field but as it is designed by the MHRD.
The course curriculum is well built which lays emphasis on both classroom learning and practical learning skills.on the academic front, the academics are good to go. Faculties here teaching are phd in their respective fields which adds to the knowledge they impart and the legacy of the faculties is overwhelming
Nit durgapur is the cheapest nit. Approximately 40 to 50 thousands semester fees they took. Comparably fees of thr other nits and iits are very large amount. This semester fees includes our hostel fees. Mess fees. And tuition fees .
In PG courses like M.Sc, the fees are quite low as respect to other NITs & IITs. We have to submit around ?15000 per semester for the institute & hostel. For B. Tech, it is around ?60000 per semester.
Fee structure for courses are moderate.Though this is central institute,so fee structure remains in moderate range. For my trade that is "Msc in chemistry" free structure is like this, the overall fee for every semester is 15000 for general and 7500 for reserved catagories. Even there are consession available if anybody apply in academic and scholarship section.
I have mentioned below the B.Tech fee structure for AY 2023-24 at NIT Durgapur.
The semester tuition fee for B.Tech and DD courses is as per MHRD regulations. That is Rs. 62,500 for students of every semester. If you belong to SC/ST/PH/have family income less than 1 LPA, your tuition fee will be 100% waived. If your family income is between 1-5 LPA, your tuition fee will be 2/3rd waived. The tuition fee has been constant for many years.
The hostel fee will vary from one hostel to another, and one month to another. You’ll have to pay a refundable security deposit of 5000 INR at the time of joining the hostel. 6200 INR will be paid as hostel seat rent and hostel establishment charge by students of every semester. Mess charges will be added as applicable.
NIT Durgapur is one of the most affordable NITs. In spite of this, it has good mess food.
