Why is CSE at NSIT considered better than CSE at DTU?

There are many reasons why some students prefer CSE at NSIT to CSE at DTU. I have listed some strong reasons below:

NSIT has a smaller batch size which in turn means the level of competition faced by the students is comparatively low. You can get good job profiles way more easily than at an institute with a higher intake like DTU.
NSIT awards you a degree from DU, one of the most globally recognized and reputed universities. This helps you pursue higher studies in foreign countries easily.
Quite a few NSIT students are able to secure high packages in top companies like Facebook while DTU because of its large batch size has only a few that get 1 cr+ packages.
One of the major reasons why someone would prefer NSIT over DTU is that it’s quite difficult to get a hostel in DTU especially if you are a resident of Delhi.

If you consider these reasons valid, go for NSIT instead of DTU.

How many marks would be enough for a SC category student to get admission into DTU, NSIT, IIIT or NITs in Computer Science and Engineering if JEE (mains) weightage is changed back to 100%?

IIITD, DTU and NSIT (NSUT) reserve 85% seats for the students who passed their 12th or equivalent from Delhi. All the NITs also offer reservation to students from their own states. Here are the 2023 JEE Mains closing ranks for CSE/COE at various colleges (for SC category)-

I am confused amongst IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU for CSE. What are some suggestions?

All three colleges namely, IIIT Delhi, NSIT, and DTU are excellent options for CSE. However, you might want to consider the following points before making the final decision

Campus life: In terms of campus life, the DTU is the best option followed by NSUT and IIIT Delhi. DTU offers a very laid-back cap pledge life experience with a minimal workload and a lot of time to pursue your hobbies. There aren’t many restrictions on attendance also.
Curriculum: IIIT Delhi is a clear winner in terms of curriculum as it has no extra subjects in the first year. Students are taught coding languages and related assignments from day one and thus prepare students better than their counterparts.
Research: IIIT Delhi is a research-oriented institute and has better research facilities, labs, and resources. DTU and NSUT have a similar research culture.
Infrastructure: IIIT Delhi is a newly established college so has modern infrastructure, although the campus is small. DTU and NSUT have larger campuses and better sports facilities.
Fees: IIIT Delhi charges extremely high fees around INR 4.62 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) which is almost double the fees charged by DTU INR 2.19 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)

So choose wisely based on your priorities!

I am too confused between CSE at DTU/NSIT and IIT Jodhpur. What should I do?

I can never stop emphasizing this, no matter how many options you have always go for the one that gives you the IIT tag.

I am not saying Engineering colleges like NSIT and DTU aren’t good but they are in the developing phase while IIT Jodhpur is in its developing phase. This means it will only get better. Despite being a new IIT, its average package this year was recorded at INR 21.30 LPA, which is a great feat for a new college.

Additionally, IITs receive more funding from the government to provide better research and project opportunities. Specifically speaking about CSE, this year the highest INR 56 LPA was bagged by BTech CSE. The placement percentage stood at 97% while the average package for CSE was recorded at INR 23 LPA.

DTU and NSIT may have higher placement statistics but they lack what IIT Jodhpur offers, the most coveted IIT tag! So choose wisely.

Which is better: IT from NSIT, IT from DTU, or CSE from IIIT Delhi?

IT from NSIT is the best option among these.

The student crowd is brilliant. It has a small batch size compared to DTU. So, you will face less competition.
NSIT has an amazing pool of faculties. You will get to learn from excellent faculty members like Sangeeta Sabharwal and MPS Bhatia.
NSIT IT placements are better than DTU and IIIT D. DTU has a better placement record for core branches. While NSIT offers better placements opportunities to CS and IT students. In the recent placement drive, the average CTC for IT at NSIT was INR 6 LPA.
Companies like Facebook, Google hire students from NSIT from their US offices.
Major consulting and non-tech companies like Bain, BCG, ZS Associates, etc. also visit the campus placements.

IIIT Delhi has an excellent research culture and professors from top universities like Carnegie Mellon. So, if you are interested in research, you should choose IIIT D. Overall IT from NSIT is the best option in terms of academics and placements.

Which is better to join DTU/NSIT/IIITD or new IITs or BITS Goa/Hyd Dual for CSE?

I won’t recommend you choose a dual program from BITS. For CSE, I would highly recommend IIIT Delhi. It has great research opportunities. It does not have the same branch value as NSUT Delhi/ DTU, but its growth rate is high. It will soon become a brand like IIIT Hyderabad. Compared to the new IITs, IIITD has a locational advantage because it is situated in the national capital.

BITS dual is a decent choice, but only if you get a CS. It depends on your performance in the first year. The odds of getting a CS are less than 20% which is pretty low, and the cutoffs keep getting higher each year. As far as the ‘BITS’ tag is concerned, it's really not that important in reality.

For the new IITs, go only if you are getting a CS over there. Do not rely on branch change. Also, avoid going to those located in small/ secluded towns because then you won’t get a lot of exposure. Also, do consider the faculty and infrastructure if you plan to go to a new IIT. My order of preference for CSE is IIITD > NSUT Delhi/DTU > BITS Goa/Hyderabad > IIT.

Thus, for a CSE, I would suggest you to choose either IIITD or NSUT Delhi/DTU.

What should I choose for CSE, NSIT or DTU?

Here are some important things I learned from the campus placements at NSUT Delhi-

It’s a harsh reality but luck plays a huge role in placements. Sometimes it will shock you how people with no potential at all get offered great job opportunities.
Confidence and patience are really important during placements.
You need to prepare well to get placed. By sitting for various companies too, you will get a lot of experience and exposure on the do’s and don'ts.
Placement season is the best and worst time of your college life. This is when you get to know the difference between fake and real friends.
Learn to be satisfied with the job that you end up in. It is your grades, caliber, and level of preparation that have brought you here. A comparison with others is of no use.
Sometimes people become rude after getting placed in a top company for a good package. Learn to ignore them and remain calm.
Only you know your hard work, worth and potential. Don’t let others talk you down with rude words.
Some of your close friends may not get a good placement. This is the time when you support them.
Utilize your time after placements. Get productive, don’t be lazy.

These experiences aren’t just limited to the placement season of NSUT Delhi, they are common for all the colleges/ universities.

Which is better in terms of the syllabus, placements and college life: NSIT in ECE vs BIT Mesra in CSE?

My friend did his B.Tech ECE from NSIT. According to him, NSIT ECE is a better choice than BIT Mesra CSE. Here are the reasons for his preference for NSIT ECE-

Location- NSIT graduates have greater access to major industries due to its closeness to cities like Noida and Gurugram. For CAT, GRE, GMAT, etc., Delhi has a good coaching center facility.

Brand Value- The brand value of NSIT is greater than that of BIT Mesra.

Faculty at NSIT - You will be taught by some of the best professors in the country at the NSIT ECE department. Their letter of recommendation will open numerous doors for you.

Seniors at NSIT- The seniors at NSIT are very helpful. Some of your seniors working at top firms may even refer you for an internship/job interview.

Classes are held regularly at NSIT- There is a 75% attendance criteria at NSIT. The teachers also come for the lectures regularly.

Coding Culture at NSIT- The coding culture at NSIT is great and their coders make it to GSoC every year. Some of them are also ranked highly on sites like TopCoder and CodeChef.

Placements- The placements at NSIT are better than BIT Mesra. ECE students from NSIT get placed in core electronics companies, tech, and non-tech firms. Some of these companies are- Texas Instruments, Airtel, KPMG, Bain, BCG, McKinsey, TCS, Maruti Suzuki, Expedia, Google, Uber, etc.

The ECE course has been recently updated by NSIT as per the industry standards. You will get to choose among electives from the first year itself. The electives range from Finance to Sports.

NSIT is the only Indian college to send delegations to the prestigious Harvard MUN.

Thus, I would suggest you choose NSIT ECE over BIT Mesra CSE.

Which should my daughter choose, a CSE from IGDTUW or a ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT Delhi?

The choice between CSE from IGDTUW and ECE from NSIT/DTU/IIIT depends on the goals of your daughter. If she is planning to pursue higher studies like MS or a Ph.D., then IIIT Delhi is a decent choice as it’s a research-oriented college. But if she is looking for a job, then IIIT Delhi will offer limited opportunities. This is because getting a job in Core ECE companies like Western Digital and Qualcomm is not easy, as these companies prioritize master students. A few talented students do get placed in Software firms.

In IIIT Delhi first year is the same for both CSE and ECE during which the students are taught Introduction to Programming, System Management, Computer Organisation, Data Structure, and Digital Circuits. Your chances of placement also depend on your CGPA which should be preferably above 7. IIIT Delhi offers the flexibility to choose the CSE courses, provided that you complete the minimum credits requirement in the last two years of B.Tech for the degree.

In all, I feel, that NSIT and DTU will offer great job opportunities because of their brand name but IIIT Delhi will teach you new things and also offer research opportunities

So it’s best to go for NSIT or DTU or IIIT Delhi. Choose wisely.

Why is CSE at IIITD considered better than CSE at NSIT?

NSUT Delhi is known for its COE (Computer Engineering) course.

The COE course is different from CSE. In COE, you will study hardware, electronics & signals, and codes & algorithms. Unlike CSE, software is not the main focus of study in COE.

Now as far as a comparison between them is considered, IIITD has a much better teaching environment than NSUT Delhi. Though it also has an experienced faculty, you will mainly be taught by Ph.D. students during the first two years.

Unlike before, however, the NSUT Delhi curriculum has been updated. There is now a CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) and you won’t have to compulsorily study unnecessary subjects. Both institutes have a pretty good placement record. Although the COE branch concerns itself more with hardware, students get placed majorly in software profiles.

All I can say is that NSUT Delhi has now an updated curriculum and a university status. On the other hand, IIITD is a comparatively new player in this field that is also performing quite well. Thus, both institutions are a good choice to pursue your computer studies.
