Remarks :
None. The students who comes to this institute are bright and they know what their goals are. So, there were no frictions among the students are students and staff.
Entrance Preview :
GATE-2000. Scored 94.95 percentile This is one of best and upcoming IIT at that time. Moreover, the location has added advantage of rich native north east culture which is not much affected by modern culture.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The M.Tech program then had three semesters. While first semester had only subjects, starting second semester students needs to carry out thesis/project work. The institute stitched the first semester course such that it is helpful during project work in further semesters.
Internships Opportunities :
For M.Techs they provide internship which mostly involves helping B.Tech students in their lab assignments and evaluation of their programming assignments.
Placement Experience :
Due to the dot com bubble in 2001-02 the number of companies visited the campus were less. Companies such as Texas Instruments, Hughes software and then public sector companies like C-DoT, BHEL etc.. visited the campus. Only a few were placed and the packages were around 4LPA.
College Events :
There were basically two events at the college. One is technical and another is cultural. Students from across the north east colleges attend these two events. Technical event involves some class room teachings, hacks and hands-on experiments such as robotics. While the culture festival involves dance, music etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Fee structure is fairly simple and the fees were very less. For M.Techs the college provides internship. The incentive is above or equal to what is prescribed by UGC. Most of the students save some portion of this and pay the fee from these savings in the coming semesters.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Then college provided internship only. There were no scholarships or loans provided by college. The incentive provided by internship is more than enough to bare the expenses of the remaining semesters.
Campus Life :
The college is in north east and the connectivity to the rest of the india is less. So, there were less female students at the campus. Only females from north east were enrolling for the courses at the institute. There were reasonable number of female students in B.Tech.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostels were very good. Each student is given an individual room with furniture. Each hostel has a mess, canteen and a TV room. The food is fairly good. It takes sometime for students of south india to adjust to the food provided in the hostel as the culinary style is mostly north-east.
Alumni/Alumna :
Seniors were so helpful. They help the junior students both technically and personally. For me, seniors helped with the admission process, reaching the institute after the admission and technically during the course.
Exam Structure :
Exam patter vary from written-test, assignments and open book exam. The pattern is chosen by the subject professor. Assignments too weigh some part of the student evaluation. Each assignment is like a mini-project. One of example is implementing ftp server, client using unix socket programming.
Admission :
Notification was issued by institute immediately after the GATE results are announced. Sent filled-in admission for along with required certificates like proof of DoB, final degree obtained (provisional certificate) and GATE score. After scrutinizing the forms, institute called the short-listed candidates for written test at the institute. After conducting a written test, institute short-listed the top scoring candidates for admission into M.Tech program.
Faculty :
Faculty was very well experienced. All of them had Ph.D from premier institutes across the world. Along with teaching most of the faculty were doing their research and projects. Most of them involves the students in the projects and some faculty share their earnings too.
