Remarks :
Overall IIT Guwahati is one of the best colleges with the best infrastructure among IITs. And it is making its own engineering institute.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Chemical engineering course curriculum at IIT Guwahati was quite decent, however, at my time the curriculum was a little bit theoretical however nowadays the curriculum has been changed which has been made more relevant to the current industrial requirement.
Placement Experience :
Reliance Oil industries Schlumberger ITC These were the core chemical companies other than these Public sector companies such as IOCL, HPCL, and ONGC from 2017 have started direct recruitment from college and each year they select 3-5 students with 18 lakhs CTC. The college has a separate placement committee that takes care of placement preparation and calling recruiting companies as many as possible.
College Events :
Techniche which is technical fest that is organized during odd semesters and Alcheringa which is a cultural fest organized during even semesters. Apart from this, we have inter IIT every year. And other small fests like inter hostel competitions throughout the semester
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee during my time was less it was 44000 rs per semester including hostel fees, however, currently, it is 1 lakh per semester. College does provide a complete breakdown of fees. But there are a lot of opportunities to earn a scholarship as i was given scholarship for all the eight semesters
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Yeah, for first-year i have given MERIT CUM MEANS scholarship which depends on your 12 th result and your parent income. And from the second year, i was given INSTITUTE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP which depends on the performance of the semester. I stood rank 1 every semester so i was provided IMS.
Campus Life :
The gender ratio is not balanced as we were batch of 660 with only 60 girls so that is like a 1:10 ratio. There are a lot of clubs and their separate events like a literary club named lit-soc, dance club named cadence, robotic clubs, consulting clubs and soon. At IIT G students were from all over India like i am from Chhattisgarh and my friends were from Maharashtra, Andra Pradesh and Assam all had different backgrounds some were too rich some had low profile background but it never mattered as all were staying in the same hostel in the same condition.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel facilities were good. In the first year we were given sharing rooms but from the second year onwards we were given a single room. We have one general store and one canteen in each hostel and mess food was also good and was managed by the mess secretary which was elected by students only among students.
Alumni/Alumna :
As students were from all over India with a different and wide background it helps in creating a good alumni network. In fact, this network helps immensely in internship and placement
Admission :
I prepared for IIT JEE from KOTA. I joined the Coaching institute named Vibrant in the year 2011-2012. Initially, i faced a lot of problems as i was from state board CGBSE and from a small town so it was whole new experience to me. I was unable to cope with the speed they taught but the faculty their helped me to a lot.
Faculty :
The lecture is a credit-based curriculum generally lectures were either 6 or 8 credit. If it was 6 credit than the number of the lecture of 1 hr was 2 per week and if it was 8 then a number of the lecture of 1 hr was 3 per week. Lecturers had a wide background some were having industrial background some had pure research background with great expertise
