Remarks :

Our campus is bound to grow more as a new boys hostel is being built, and expansion of various departments is taking place. And there are a few very tall buildings built for reasons I don't know, maybe for phD scholars.

Entrance Preview :

We wrote UCEED for b.des program in IIT. This has UG course in design for a longer time than IDC Bombay too. And being in such a geographic location is ideal for students to get exposed to a culture they've never seen before. We have a very good faculty team of 20+ professors and assistant professors.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course for us was the first of its kind since we were the first UCEED batch. We have applied science as well as design modules in the first semester itself! Which prepared is for the oncoming semesters. This course not only teaches design but also almost every other field in science in brief. We even have computer science course in second semester.

Internships Opportunities :

Internship is very common as students take it up from second year itself. Companies Like Microsoft, yellow slice and many more(these are ones that I'm kind of aware of) I'll get to know more in the upcoming semester soon. But what seniors have told us is that internship is a must of you want to get your hands dirty in some project soon enough to gain as much experience as possible.

Placement Experience :

Design and Mathematics and computers have a 100% placement. Design has a minimum of 14lac p.a package so that's nothing to worry about followed by CS department, mechanical and so on. Biotechnology comes the last I guess with 8.5 lac being the same for biotechnology and civil engineering. But for design, various companies like Tata, Trident visit the campus but more or less it differs since e field is very diverse. But every year 80% students get placed somewhere out the other. Few go for PG and a lot for MS abroad.

College Events :

Alcheringa is our annual fest with over 80000 footfall last year, it's the 2nd biggest college fest in India. Students can join any of the 5 teams Marketing, creatives, media to name a few. it's extremely fun and you become a completely different person after that. So is Techniche, our techno management fest with over 20k footfall this year. Even hey have over 5 teams in which students can be a part of. We have Manthan, inter hostel cultural event Spardha, inter hostel sports event Kriti, inter hostel technical event. Every year students of 1-4 years participate and work as a team and promote hostel spirit. Yes at he end of the day we learn a lot of new things.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Total fees for first semester including tuition, mess and hostel is 1.3lac . Fees are not expensive at all and considering this is one of the most premier institutions in India, it's totally worth it, while many other engineering colleges charge very high fee. Not to mention design colleges in India especially where fee is aky high. Here it is modest.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Scholarships and loan facilities are good enough as I've heard from senior students but I personally don't have much idea about them.

Campus Life :

Campus life, is pretty decent to a global standard I could say. We are given freedom to the fullest be it hostels or in the campus. We can stay out in the campus even for the whole night and its pretty safe. The location make it all the more beautiful to be honest. It's one of the best looking campuses in India. Sex ratio is pretty unbalanced, 700 students in first year out of which almost 100 are girls. But in design department it's very balanced. There are really friendly counsellors who have a club named Saathi, students can also be a part of it.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostels have excellent facilities. We for instance have a pantry, tv room and even a music room with full drum kits, keyboards and guitars. Boys have single rooms whereas girls share one for two. The rooms themselves are decent. I liked it a lot inspite of never being in a hostel my entire life. Mess food varies from time to time but it's good enough at least not to get bored of which usually happens. We have a second year it as mess convener who can make changes to the menu if a majority of student desires.

Alumni/Alumna :

In the first semester itself we had a workshop with a design alumni. For three days. And yes alumni help us often. They tell us what companies expect from a designer and plenty tips to make an awesome looking portfolio, because that defines a designer as a whole.

Exam Structure :

We have midsem and end sem each comprising of 3 design exams and 1 engineering drawing and 1 electrical engineering course for first sem. We have one ED lab per week. But we have ample time in between the lab and exam sessions, nothing to worry about. Design classes bring out the best in you. Especially in the workshops where we work in groups always is extremely rewarding at the end of the day.

Admission :

We filled up the for by November and had the exam on Jan 17th. Results were announced in March first week. We later got shortlisted in July 2nd week. Then in the 4th week we were to go to the campus and on the day of arrival we're designated hostels. The next day was the admission process that happened in no time. Our course started 3 days later.

Faculty :

The faculty is excellent here. We have them specialised in each field of design so if you want to go for a particular field you have to be close with that professor, take projects with them and all. They have a really good global network too.Even they are enthusiastic in teaching is this new syllabus as they haven't done before for first yearites. We have faculty from IDC Bombay, NID, Srishti college of design to name a few.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum could be updated. I think the first year courses are very basic and easy for design. They upgrade it a bit. The btech subjects that we had were very irrelevant. I don't think we will be using it in design in future.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Design is a field of creative ideas and thinking which influence me to go out of box and push my limit and do something different. The curriculum prepares me to use the creative part of my brain and creating solutions for real world problem through design.More improvement could be made in courses by integrating latest trends in field of design like Ar and Vr related. The exam for the courses are in two sections Theory and Practical. The Theory are pretty easy to moderate if u have attended the lecture and have idea about the subjects but the practical could be little difficult but with time there is improvement.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is fine for B.des, but to be honest CITK is an engineering college so, for design students the environment is not that top notch over here. But in overall it's all good especially the faculties here are the best even in comparison to the other departments of our college.

Placement Experience:

Although the placement percentage is not 100% but the opportunities provided by the institute are very good. In the field of BDes, some of the top companies of the industry participated during the placements. In general, the highest CTC went to Rs. 1.5 CPA. Companies that visited for the placements were Microsoft, Google, Qualcomm, Oracle, American Express, Walmart, Adobe, Razorpay and Groww.

The environment is great. It's so pleasant and green. It's amazing to be a student here. The students are very friendly and kind. There is a vast variety of flora and fauna available. The only downside is that being away from main city, we don't get much attention.

For the most part it is definitely worth it to join IITG. From good placement records to being the most beautiful campus in India there's something for everyone here. Accessibility sometimes cause issue but other than that, it holds up the hype it got.

Entrance Preview:

JEE, AIR 4742 Chose branch, not college. For my rank, Design seemed to be a perfectly fitting branch for me, hence I chose to go for it over BITS CSE.

Admission:

After I filled my choices and once my seat was locked, I got a confirmation letter (Offer Letter) from IIT Guwahati, inviting me to attend the institute. On reaching here, a procedure was followed, where all the official documents were verified, and an orientation was carried, which gave a glimpse of the life here at IITG.
