IITG in a nutshell

CN

Remarks :

The environment is great. It's so pleasant and green. It's amazing to be a student here. The students are very friendly and kind. There is a vast variety of flora and fauna available. The only downside is that being away from main city, we don't get much attention.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is highly enjoyable. The exams are pretty open ended and do not require rote learning. If you have interest in design, you will never find yourself trying to forcibly memorise anything.

Placement Experience :

Most jobs are in the Ui UX sector. However there are other options flourishing as well. There is around 95% placement with average CTC of 20 LPA. Institutional internship is available. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Samsung, Sprinklr, Nutanix, DE Shaw are out top recruiters.

College Events :

There is always something event happening thouroughout the year. Alcheringa, the annual cultural fest of IITG receives a footfall of over 1 lakh people. Techniche, the annual techno management fest is also not far behind. People from all over the country come to enjoy the festival and serene environment.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fees are comparatively pretty less. For Design department, the fees are around 1. 36 Lakhs per semester, which is much lesser than other colleges with same course structure. The mess fees are around 17k.

Fees and Financial Aid :

The toppers from each batch receive a scholarship of 2 lakhs from the college. Though it is not as easy as it seems to be a topper. It sure is amazing to gain the scholarship. About loan, it's available. If your annual income is less than 5 LPA. The process is hassle free and pretty reassuring.

Campus Life :

There are a lot of clubs available to participate in. We have fully functional sports courts with all the facilities. Many workshops are carried out all year. There is more male participation than female.

Hostel Facilities :

The boys hostels have single room (no sharing), while the girls get one room mate. There are around 12 hostels, all with canteen, mess, sports rooms and all other facilities. Water and electricity is available 24/7 and even hi speed wifi is available. It's a pleasure to love in IIT Guwahati.

Alumni/Alumna :

There is a vast aluminum network. They all come to IITG during alumni meet. We get to talk to them and learn about the industry. They all are extremely helpful and generous. They are friendly and do reach out to us whenever needed.

Admission :

I chose design at IIT Guwahati because it is one of the best design departments in India. It is also internationally famous for being one of the leading Ui UX research institute. The entrance exam is Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED). Over 15- 20 thousand students appear for the exam and only a few toppers get into an IIT as the seats are very less (45 in IIT Guwahati). Reservations come into play of course.

Faculty :

Availability of top class faculty is there. All the professors are very talented and educated. They are well versed in their topics as well as other subjects. They are not strict and more like friends.

The foundation students has a common curriculum where as once you get into your discipline its different for each. The curriculum is very well structured that helps in building the required skill you need to have when you reach the industry. Since you are continuosly evaluated and given proper guidance and suggestion it provides room for constant improvisation and betterment of yourself and your works

Placement Experience:

Campus placements is a subject which has very varied answers depending on who we ask. There are placement rounds going on in the university and people do get placed but it is seldom. We are not given a good idea of how many companies visit or what is the average package offered. But the placement rounds begin from 4th year only. We get compulsory internships after the end of every even semester.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum could be updated. I think the first year courses are very basic and easy for design. They upgrade it a bit. The btech subjects that we had were very irrelevant. I don't think we will be using it in design in future.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Design is a field of creative ideas and thinking which influence me to go out of box and push my limit and do something different. The curriculum prepares me to use the creative part of my brain and creating solutions for real world problem through design.More improvement could be made in courses by integrating latest trends in field of design like Ar and Vr related. The exam for the courses are in two sections Theory and Practical. The Theory are pretty easy to moderate if u have attended the lecture and have idea about the subjects but the practical could be little difficult but with time there is improvement.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is fine for B.des, but to be honest CITK is an engineering college so, for design students the environment is not that top notch over here. But in overall it's all good especially the faculties here are the best even in comparison to the other departments of our college.

For the most part it is definitely worth it to join IITG. From good placement records to being the most beautiful campus in India there's something for everyone here. Accessibility sometimes cause issue but other than that, it holds up the hype it got.

Entrance Preview:

JEE, AIR 4742 Chose branch, not college. For my rank, Design seemed to be a perfectly fitting branch for me, hence I chose to go for it over BITS CSE.

Admission:

After I filled my choices and once my seat was locked, I got a confirmation letter (Offer Letter) from IIT Guwahati, inviting me to attend the institute. On reaching here, a procedure was followed, where all the official documents were verified, and an orientation was carried, which gave a glimpse of the life here at IITG.

Remarks:

Our campus is bound to grow more as a new boys hostel is being built, and expansion of various departments is taking place. And there are a few very tall buildings built for reasons I don't know, maybe for phD scholars.
