Entrance Preview :

JEE, AIR 4742 Chose branch, not college. For my rank, Design seemed to be a perfectly fitting branch for me, hence I chose to go for it over BITS CSE.

Internships Opportunities :

Generally students go for industrial and academic internships after their 3rd year, and some even after their 2nd year. Many big shots come here to hire interns, like, Google, Microsoft, Flipkart, Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Nutanix, Schlumberger etc. The highest stipend goes upto 1.25 lakhs per month.

Placement Experience :

The placement cell is a very dedicated cell here at IITG. The placements are very good, with some branches like Design getting upto 100% placed students. Last year, the average package for Design was 16 LPA, with highest going upto 30 LPA. Companies like Microsoft had a CTC of 21 LPA.

College Events :

Techniche is the technincal festival of IITG, and Alcheringa, the cultural festival of IITG. Each year, Alcheringa sees upto 50,000 students coming from all over India to participate. Famous stars like Mohit Chauhan, Mika, Lucky Ali etc have come to Alcheringa to perform. The technical fest, Techniche also sees foreign professors as guest lecturers, and participation from Indian students in competitions like robotics, debates etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The Fee structure for general category students is 60,000 per semester. For a student from upper middle class background, it is not high compared to private colleges. But generally, the lower middle class people tend to take Educational loans to pay for their education.

Fees and Financial Aid :

SBI offers a very low interest rate for IITG students. Also, every year, the branch topper gets their fees refunded as Merit scholarships, and also students whose parental incomes are low, get merit-cum-means scholarships.

Campus Life :

The campus life is awesome. The Sex ratio is 12:1, which is pretty bad, but is improving every year. There are various extracurricular clubs here at IITG, which promote healthy exchange of ideas and learning of skills. The students here are very tolerant with regards to religion, caste, ethnicities etc.

Hostel Facilities :

The Hostel rooms are spacious enough. Also, the hostels have all the basic facilities like sports rooms, TV rooms, Gyms, Canteens, Messes, Plenty of washrooms, Store Areas, Common rooms, Receptions etc. The Mess food is not that good, in taste, but quality wise, it is fine.

Alumni/Alumna :

The alumni network of IITG is very good. In many big cities, the alumni conduct meets and talks. They are very helpful, and give important tips regarding college life, internships and placements. They also visit the college from time to time. Before joining the institute, I had a very detailed discussion with an alumni who was working at Samsung, regarding the college, the branch and all, and he gave some valuable insights into why I should join the college.

Exam Structure :

Exams for Design branch are very rare. We generally have 2-3 exams while other branch students have 5-6 exams. There is 1 exam per day, and it happens either in the morning shift or the afternoon shift. After the exam, students get plenty of time to chill out or study for the next one.

Admission :

After I filled my choices and once my seat was locked, I got a confirmation letter (Offer Letter) from IIT Guwahati, inviting me to attend the institute. On reaching here, a procedure was followed, where all the official documents were verified, and an orientation was carried, which gave a glimpse of the life here at IITG.

Faculty :

The faculty of the college is awesome. When compared to the teachers we used to have in schools, the professors here are way cooler and way more knowledgeable. With time, some professors become your friends. The faculty are mostly PhD's and hold huge experience in their respective fields of study.

The course carriculum is very well planned and structured and very relevent to the requirements of the students of each discipline. The foundation students has a common curriculum where as once you get into your discipline its different for each. The curriculum is very well structured that helps in building the required skill you need to have when you reach the industry. Since you are continuosly evaluated and given proper guidance and suggestion it provides room for constant improvisation and betterment of yourself and your works

Placement Experience:

Campus placements is a subject which has very varied answers depending on who we ask. There are placement rounds going on in the university and people do get placed but it is seldom. We are not given a good idea of how many companies visit or what is the average package offered. But the placement rounds begin from 4th year only. We get compulsory internships after the end of every even semester.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum could be updated. I think the first year courses are very basic and easy for design. They upgrade it a bit. The btech subjects that we had were very irrelevant. I don't think we will be using it in design in future.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Design is a field of creative ideas and thinking which influence me to go out of box and push my limit and do something different. The curriculum prepares me to use the creative part of my brain and creating solutions for real world problem through design.More improvement could be made in courses by integrating latest trends in field of design like Ar and Vr related. The exam for the courses are in two sections Theory and Practical. The Theory are pretty easy to moderate if u have attended the lecture and have idea about the subjects but the practical could be little difficult but with time there is improvement.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is fine for B.des, but to be honest CITK is an engineering college so, for design students the environment is not that top notch over here. But in overall it's all good especially the faculties here are the best even in comparison to the other departments of our college.

Remarks:

The environment is great. It's so pleasant and green. It's amazing to be a student here. The students are very friendly and kind. There is a vast variety of flora and fauna available. The only downside is that being away from main city, we don't get much attention.

Remarks:

For the most part it is definitely worth it to join IITG. From good placement records to being the most beautiful campus in India there's something for everyone here. Accessibility sometimes cause issue but other than that, it holds up the hype it got.

Remarks:

Our campus is bound to grow more as a new boys hostel is being built, and expansion of various departments is taking place. And there are a few very tall buildings built for reasons I don't know, maybe for phD scholars.
