Remarks :

I have gained a lot from this institute in the short duration I stayed there. So all I have a very good impression about this institute. The College management was very active and honest in their duties. The institute has an anti-ragging committee to ensure that there will be no such incident happen to innocent newly admitted student by the seniors. I any student or a team found guilty of involved in such incident then they will be terminated from the institute immediately.

Entrance Preview :

I have taken IIT JAM exam in the year 2004 and secured 58 all India Rank with this rank I have got selected in IIT Kanpur for MSc 2 Year program in the department of Mathematics and Statistics. IIT Kanpur is ome of the premier institute in India. So when I get an opportunity to get admitted I did not look back.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum was very rigorous as expected from a premier institute. We have a option to choose elective courses right from the second semester onwards. There was surprise quizzes, mid term and end term exams as well as assignments white paper, short projects and dissertations as part of the evaluation process.

Internships Opportunities :

The internship was great. Many IT/ ITES companies came in the campus. To name a few like GE,Cognizant,Capgemini,Infosys,TCS,HCL Technologies,IGATE,Tech Mahindra, Google,ITC Infotech,Wipro,Accenture,IBM,Patni Computer System. The stipend was very handsome ranging from Rs 15000 to Rs 30000 per month.

College Events :

Throughout the year IIT Kanpur used to organize many cultural and academic festivals like Antaragni,Techkriti,Hall Days, Sree Krishna Janmasthami,Durga Puja,Diwali,X-Mas and Happy New Year,Alumni Meet etc. Antaragni is the annual cultural festival of IIT Kanpur held in the month of October and is one of the popular college festivals in India. It is a four-day-long festival attracting participation from over 200 colleges of India. It includes professional shows, competitions, amateur rock bands,Ustads and Pandits, fashion shows,Indian folk dances and other events. Antaragni has included performances by Vishal Shekhar,Sonu Nigam,ShankarヨEhsaanヨLoy,Poets of the Fall,Sunidhi Chauhan and Raghu Dixit. The festival also aims to serve as a platform for the expression of youth opinion on social problems. Techkriti is an annual inter-collegiate technology and entrepreneurship festival organized by the students. It was launched in 1995 with the aim of developing interest and encouraging innovation in technology among students. Hall days are being celebrated for all the hostels in the campus in their respective hostel foundation dates.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fees at IIT Kanpur was affordable as it was funded by many Govt departments like UGC,NBHM etc. The fees for out course was approximately 1.5 lakh for the 2 years including all standard expenses.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The institute have merit cum means MCM scholarship for the meritorious but needy students based on parents income level. The MCM scholarship amount was Rs 1000 per month for the entire duration of the course renewable at the end of every academic year subject to satisfactory performance. The department of Mathematics and Statistics also offer a scholarship called NBHM scholarship for department students only. The scholarship amont was Rs 1200 per month for the entire duration of the course.

Campus Life :

The campus life was awesome and life changing for me. It was a good mix of academic as well as cultural. The days flown in a hurry as we have a lot of academic work to as well as there was ample opportunity for other extracurricular activities like Sports,Swimming, Robotics,Music,Drama,Administrative,Debates,Aerospace etc. We have intra Hostel sports competition on cricket, football, chess etc. The gender ratio in the campus was approximately 7:1 for boys versus girls.

Alumni/Alumna :

Every graduating student of the institute have an opportunity to become an Alumni for Life time by enrolling into IIT Kanpur Alumni Association. The institute arrange Alumni days so that Alumni members can interact with the students and share their experience and provide networks or industry contacts to the students. I had gained a lot from some of the Alumni members of our department.

Exam Structure :

Each semester was divided into three parts mid term 1,mid term 2 and end semester exam. Normally mid term exams were based on the topics recently covered in the class and the marks will carry a certain percentage in the final end sem exams. We also have some lab work as well as regular assignments. So I would say a bit hectic schedule from Mon - Friday.

Faculty :

The faculty strength was excellent. The department have a solid pool of Academicians specialized in various fields. They have build a strong foundation for the courses I had opted for. All the faculties had a minimum of Ph.D qualification form premier institutes and quality publications. They also engaged in Industrial assignments, projects.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The campus provide hands on experience in this course. The curriculum is updated according to the new trends in the field of forensic science. They provide hands on experience on case studies, projects, laboratory experiments and whole crime scene investigation exposure from the 1st step reaching to crime scene till getting it the evidence collected packed and sent to the particular department for their examination. Here we have learnt about FIR (First Information Report) proper sealing of evidence and labelling them. They have prepared us for real world crime investigation. But i think their is still some improvement is needed in curriculum as the course provides us all the detailed learning about the laboratory related and investigation related things but with upcoming trends i think we should also learn the crime related to digital platforms like cyber crime, frauds, scams, Phishing which are new crime trends in our society so that we can get more job opportunities in forensic field

Course Curriculum Overview:

Till class 12 I don't want to study chemistry but in the university my whole perpective is changed because of my professor as they make the lessons quite easy. They not only focus upon the current part of lessons but also starts from the starting i.e they focus upon the improvement of basics. Every thing is nice but timings are not good as it takes complete day.

Firstly, I like zoology as a subject as it really gives us knowledge regarding every single life forms . The curriculum lead me to find ways to deal with organisms. Animal behaviour is a subject which needed some more improvements. Exams were continuous and leads to pressure on a difficulty level.

Placement Experience:

Actually from the 2nd semester, students can apply for placements. Almost 50-70% of students were placed in this course. The highest and lowest package of salary is offered and it depends on the performance of students. The highest salary is something 20, 000 per month on the other hand the lowest salary is 35, 000 per month. And average salary offer in course is 20, 000 per month approx. There are many companies like TCS, HTC, Wipro, Flipkart and Amazon are in our course. almost 50-70% can get internships from my college. My plan after MSC is to teach in a higher college at a high level. I am also applying for a good job.
