Remarks :
The location is quite remote, the only way to entertain urself is by friends. There are no malls and hanging places in city. They have only Domino's as a MNC food outlet. The overall facilities in the college is Very good. The staffs are really very very helpful. The campus is Very safe. The mess good is above average.
Course Curriculum Overview :
It's good. Quite a balance of both. The more emphasis is on applied Mathematics ofcourse but there are courses in pure mathematics too. Exam structure is Quiz 1, Quiz 2 followed by a end semester exam. The waitage of marks depends upon teacher. But it's of 25-25-50 generally. We have a technical project consists of 25% of the overall waitage of my M.Sc Program which is research oriented and industry based which will eventually help me to gain a insights into higher mathematics research explosure. There was no industry visit. But the core courses were less useful in getting jobs, I have to do elective courses from CS department to get overall knowledge. We have flexibility to choose from electives. Electives range from civil to computer science department courses.
Placement Experience :
Very few companies comes for master's degree student. For maths companies like byju, tcs, and few analyst companies like decesion point visit the campus. About 10 percent of students got placed every from mathematics department. I got placed in TCS Research and Innovation Labs.
College Events :
Exodia the technical fest, Raneethi the sports fest and other fest like literally fest. We celebrate holi and other festivals in our campus. They are not that big considering the remote location and connectivity of the campus and compared to other IITs. But it manages to attract around 1000 students from North India every year.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Master's in Mathematics fee structure is 30,000 per semester. Mode of payment is both online and offline. Yes college provide transparency in fee breakdown and there is a 10000 security deposit during the admission time one time refundable. We can pay through Paytm, Google pay etc.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
No, but it provides scholarship from college funds fo top 25 percent students and st sc students. Waiver of tution fees of 8000 for at sc students and 1000 per month for top 25 percent students. The annual family income should be less than 300000 pee annum to avail the scholarship.
Campus Life :
Girls are less compared to boys, we can party in campus with prior permission. The LGBT community is not there in campus. There are hanful of debates, and other cultural activities which makes life easier in Himalayas. Students are from mainly Rajasthan, UP and South Indian. Few are from Himachal Pradesh too. The overall quality of students in master's program is not as per I have expected. Mostly students are Hindu. Almost 95 percent.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes, rooms are of triple sharing. The hostel provide all amenities like washing machines, refridgerator, oven, dryer, utensils, iron, induction top, electronic kettle in each hostel. All free of cost.
Alumni/Alumna :
They have recently introduced the alumni association page. Seniors are helpful. They can be contacted easily.
Admission :
It was based on JAM Joint Admission Test for admission in Master's Program in IITs and IISERs. I got admission here in 2018. The whole process was online. I paid fees online and on the day of reporting I have to physically verify my documents and proof of admission fees payment. I choose IIT Mandi because it's an IIT ofcourse and moreover I wanted to persue my master's from a quite place like Mandi which is in Himachal Pradesh away from city hustle. I want to do advance study in mathematics, being an IIT it will give me more exposure then a regular University.
Faculty :
The faculty are quite experienced in their own areas. They all are from IITs, IISER, and ISI. Most of the teachers were experienced and few are of young faculty. Most of them hold PhD and Post Doctoral from foreign Universities. They have less industrial experience through. Except 1-2. They have clear clarity of their respective research areas in Applied Mathematics.
